2026 Hong Kong Auto Expo: Jaecoo J8 Comes with Its 1.5T Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain and 1,200km Range

We see Jaecoo's luxury plug-in hybrid SUV, the J8, at this year's Hong Kong Auto Expo. It is expeced to be priced at HK$450,000.

The J8 boasts a poised and majestic exterior stance, delivering a strong visual impact through its refined design details. Signature elements—including the waterfall-style front grille, sharp LED headlight clusters, full-width rear taillights, and accented silver trim pieces—all elevate the vehicle's distinctive appearance. In terms of dimensions, the J8 measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,699 mm in height, anchored by a 2,820 mm wheelbase.

Inside the cabin, a dual 12.3-inch screen setup dominates the dashboard, complemented by soft-touch materials utilized throughout. Distinctive touches, such as the circular air vents, enhance the high-tech aesthetic while reinforcing the vehicle's luxurious atmosphere. Utilizing a 2+3+2 seating configuration, the J8 offers ample space across the first and second rows, while the third row remains optimized for occasional passenger use.

The powertrain stands out as one of the J8's primary engineering highlights. It integrates a 1.5T engine, dual electric motors, and a 34.4 kWh battery pack to form a plug-in hybrid system, mated to a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. This sophisticated setup ensures the engine operates at peak efficiency across all driving conditions, balancing power delivery and fuel economy. Collectively, the system generates a combined output of 537 horsepower and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. On a full tank of fuel and a complete battery charge, the J8 achieves a total combined range of 1,200 km alongside an 180 km pure electric driving range.
