At this year's Hong Kong International Auto Expo, Dongfeng’s luxury off-road brand M-Hero presented its latest model, the 817 (M-Hero II). Compared to the previous 917 (M-Hero I), the new 817 is a more intelligent product that better balances urban driving comfort with serious off-road capability.

The front of the 817 is highly recognisable, featuring a closed grille with a powerful “roaring lion” aesthetic and illuminated trim strips. When the daytime running lights are activated, the signature M-LOGO lights up in sync, creating a strong technological impression. The hood features bold three-dimensional lines that convey a majestic, lion-like presence and significantly enhance the vehicle’s powerful stance.

The side profile is elongated and robust, with high ground clearance for excellent off-road passability. It is equipped with roof rails and a dedicated side-mounted climbing ladder for easy roof access. On the opposite side, a hidden flat storage box adds practicality. Buyers can choose between road tyres or aggressive AT all-terrain tyres, the latter offering superior grip on unpaved roads, mud, and mountain trails.

At the rear, the 817 retains the classic external spare tyre design typical of hardcore off-roaders, paired with a side-hinged tailgate. The unique cross-shaped taillights deliver excellent visibility and a strong visual statement at night.
The interior emphasises a three-dimensional layered design. It features a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a W-HUD head-up display, a streaming media rearview mirror, and a dedicated rear-seat control screen. A distinctive watch-style rotary knob screen further enriches the technological atmosphere.

Below the central screen, physical buttons are retained for intuitive operation. Illuminated metal pulse buttons feature a breathing light effect, while the watch-style knob boasts an exquisite pyramid texture and supports multiple theme interfaces for a unique user experience.
The cabin is deeply integrated with Huawei’s HarmonyOS, supporting Xiao Yi voice interaction, seamless phone-to-vehicle connectivity, and multi-screen linkage for a smooth and intelligent digital experience.
Great emphasis is placed on cabin quality and riding comfort. Over 90 percent of the interior surface area is upholstered in soft leather, with the seating contact surfaces using premium Nappa genuine leather. The ceiling and cargo area are finished with high-grade plush fabric. Metal-finish trim panels combined with soft padding create a rich layered effect with first-class tactile feel.

The entire vehicle uses formaldehyde-free and benzene-free environmentally friendly materials, meeting European infant and children's textile standards, ensuring it is healthy and safe. The intelligent air conditioning system is equipped with an air quality sensor, negative ion purification, and a magnetic perfume system, keeping the cabin air fresh and making long-distance journeys exceptionally comfortable.
The interior features a 18-speaker Dynaudio signature-level audio system, delivering high-fidelity, high-quality auditory enjoyment. A 256-color gradient ambient lighting system supports various scenarios, including music rhythm synchronization and active safety linkage, creating an immersive atmosphere.
Additionally, it is equipped with a refrigerated and heated onboard cooler with a wide temperature range, supporting voice and mobile app remote control. High-end features such as five silent soft-close doors and IP67 waterproof electric running boards are all included. The interior seats adopt a two-tone spliced design with exquisite diamond stitching. Combined with the panoramic sunroof, this delivers both premium quality and transparency. When opening the doors, the electric running boards automatically extend, making getting in and out both elegant and convenient.

The M-Hero 817 is equipped with a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system producing a combined output of 505kW and 848Nm of torque. It features a 31.73kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 140km.
The chassis is available in two configurations: an air suspension version with adjustable ride height, CDC damping, and rear-wheel steering for excellent urban manoeuvrability and off-road performance; and a spring suspension version focused on hardcore off-road capability.
