Amid Shifting Market Demands, Toyota Halts Mass Production Development Plan for Lexus LF-ZC Pure Electric Sedan

Foreign media reports indicate that Toyota has officially suspended development work on the LF-ZC pure electric sedan mass production model under its premium automotive brand, Lexus. Toyota confirmed the news, stating that the decision to terminate development is due to shifting market demands and is part of an overall optimization and adjustment of the group's vehicle development portfolio.

Toyota emphasized that this adjustment concerns the development planning for an individual model only and does not signify abandoning the development path for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

According to the original product plan, the LF-ZC prototype was unveiled back in October 2023. At that time, the industry mainstream range for pure electric vehicles was approximately 500 kilometers, while this vehicle targeted a range reaching double that industry benchmark, showcasing impressive performance.

The vehicle was initially scheduled for launch in 2026. Later, in 2024, Toyota announced a delay to the mid-2027 timeframe; now, however, the entire mass production development project has been directly terminated.
