[CNMO Tech News] On June 15, Tesla announced that the China-made Model Y became the number one new car registration by single model of an imported car brand in Japan for May 2026.
According to CNMO Tech, in June this year, Tesla Vice President Tao Lin posted stating that Tesla took the top spot in imported car sales in South Korea, Singapore welcomed its 10,000th owner, and the Model Y L manufactured by the Shanghai Superfactory also commenced deliveries there. In Bangalore, India, Tokyo, Japan, Bangkok, Thailand, etc., one Tesla new store after another opened successively.
In the Chinese market, in May 2026, the retail volume of narrow-sense passenger cars was 1.51 million, down 22.1% year-on-year, and up 9.2% month-on-month. Among them, the retail volume of new energy passenger cars reached 950,000, down 7.5% year-on-year, and up 12.4% month-on-month, with a market penetration rate near 63%, successfully creating a historical high. The retail volume of fuel cars that month was only 560,000, down 39% year-on-year, and up slightly 5% month-on-month.
In terms of the mid-size sedan sub-market, Tesla Model 3 ranked first with a sales figure of 18,400 units. Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Magotan both ranked second and third with 12,200 units each. The top positions are still occupied by joint-venture fuel cars, but the sales of classic models such as Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Buick Regal did not exceed 5,000 units, and subsequent performance shows fatigue. Regarding new energy models, Tesla Model 3, BYD Qin L, BYD Seal 06, etc., ranked at the forefront, with the combined sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid models nearing half of the mid-size sedan market.
