In the current Chinese automotive market, when a brand chooses a more affordable route, it often means facing more critical eyes: if the price is lower, will quality shrink? If the threshold drops, will the experience suffer?

On June 12, Beijing Off-road gave its own answer at the Zhuzhou Super Factory. On this day, the BJ30 Traveler welcomed the roll-off of its 150,000th vehicle, and simultaneously released a new version 'Highlight Edition'. For any model, 150,000 units is a number worth marking, but for a 'Light Off-road' Box-style SUV, this number carries much more weight.

It means that the road of 'Affordable Off-roading' that Beijing Off-road has always insisted on has been successfully walked.

How a car defines 'Affordable'

If I had to use one word to summarize the BJ30 Traveler's product philosophy, the most accurate might be 'Pragmatic'. It is not a car that tries to crush opponents in every parameter, but offers solutions beyond expectations in dimensions that users truly need.

First is the powertrain. The BJ30 Traveler is equipped with an HEV hybrid architecture known as 'Three-Engine Four-Wheel Drive Six Modes', which is also the first vehicle in the Chinese Box-style SUV category to adopt HEV hybrid technology. The composition of this system is not complicated: a hybrid dedicated engine with thermal efficiency reaching 41%, plus front and rear drive motors, responsible for long-distance energy saving, real-time replenishment, and instantaneous explosion. The intelligent four-wheel drive response speed can reach 30 milliseconds, outputting peak torque within 0.5 seconds. More importantly, the six working modes will automatically select the optimal scheme, keeping the powertrain in the best state at all times.

Second is space. The BJ30 Traveler adopts a three-row seven-seat layout, with a wheelbase reaching 2820 mm, and a space utilization rate of 66%. The trunk volume can be expanded to a maximum of 1496 liters, forming a 1.92-meter large bed after the rear seats are folded down. The third row space allows adults 1.8 meters tall to still feel spacious. There are 38 storage locations in the whole car, basically every passenger's personal items can find a suitable location.

Then is economy. Recently, automotive bloggers from South Africa, Indonesia, UAE, Poland, and Mexico five countries conducted actual tests on the BJ30 Traveler. The result was that in each country, the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers of this car did not exceed 5 liters, and the range of one tank of fuel exceeded 1000 kilometers. No need to find charging stations, just refuel and go. For first-time owners, Beijing Off-road also provided lifetime whole vehicle warranty.

The combination of these three dimensions constitutes the underlying logic of BJ30 Traveler 'Affordable': it makes a Box-style SUV capable of light off-roading become enough useful, enough worry-free, enough cheap.

Highlight Edition: Adding more on the existing basis

At the node of 150,000 units roll-off, Beijing Off-road launched the BJ30 Traveler Highlight Edition. This new version is not a simple configuration upgrade, but a targeted reinforcement in three directions: appearance, performance, and experience, under the original 'Super Off-road, Super Large, Super Economical' framework.

In terms of appearance, the Highlight Edition continues the classic box-style shape, adding a full set of electric-style trendy modification kits and exclusive Star Ring Rims, front and rear bumpers adopt the same color sports design. In terms of interior, a new orange color scheme and metal texture trim panels are introduced. These changes are not radical, but for a model facing the mass market, the appropriate sense of refinement often moves the heart more than exaggerated design.

Performance upgrades are more substantial. The Highlight Edition replaced a high-performance, long-life dedicated AGM battery, the cycle life reaching 3 times that of ordinary batteries; equipped with turbocharging technology same as Porsche, the whole vehicle charging efficiency increased to 99%; the rear motor power increased from 55 kW to 70 kW. This means that in scenarios such as ramp merging, intersection starting, emergency evasion, the vehicle's response will be more timely.

Improvements in the experience level are reflected in details. The BJ30 Traveler Highlight Edition is equipped with seat heating, ventilation, steering wheel heating and other functions; the system can sense raindrops and automatically close the car windows; 64-color ambient light can move with the music rhythm. These functions, taken out individually, are not earth-shaking innovations, but when gathered together, they indeed make daily car use more comfortable.

150,000 Kilometers: A Ticket of Trust

In this press conference, there was a link that attracted special attention: Beijing Off-road joined hands with CCTV Finance to conduct a live dismantling broadcast of a BJ30 Traveler that had driven 150,000 kilometers.

150,000 kilometers is approximately equivalent to nearly ten years of usage mileage for an ordinary family. The dismantling result is: engine turbine is clean, carbon buildup is very little, power output is still abundant; transmission case is intact, no oil leakage, internal gears are not worn or pitted; battery pack has no bulging, liquid leakage or internal degradation and decay situation; subframe and suspension arms have no rust or oil seepage leakage problems, the flatness and regularity of the entire chassis is very small difference from new cars.

The significance of this live broadcast is not to prove how 'god-like' the BJ30 Traveler is, but to respond to a question that consumers are generally concerned about: Can the quality of an affordable priced car be maintained after long-term use? The answer is already written very clearly on this 150,000-kilometer car.

At the same time, the CCTV Finance camera also went deep into the BAIC Zhuzhou Super Factory. In the welding workshop, hundreds of robots achieved 100% automated operation, glue application error does not exceed the diameter of a human hair; in the stamping workshop, a 5000+ ton giant stamping equipment pressed out the car body plates at one time; in the painting workshop, dozens of robots performed fully automatic painting, using environmentally friendly water-based paint, harmful pungent volatile substances reduced by more than 60%. Every process has a quality control inspection checkpoint to ensure that every vehicle rolling off the line meets quality standards.

These factory-end details explain why the BJ30 Traveler, after experiencing the test of 150,000 kilometers, can still maintain a good state. High quality is not shouted out, but managed out of every manufacturing link.

Affordable is not downgrading, another kind of choice

Beijing Off-road is walking further and more steadily on the road of 'Affordable Off-roading'. The BJ30 Traveler's 150,000-unit performance report, and the launch of the Highlight Edition, are all conveying the same signal: Affordable does not mean cheap, low price does not mean low quality.

In this price segment, consumers do not need piled parameters and trickery functions, but solid reliability, economy and practicality. BJ30 Traveler just happens to meet these needs, and proved itself in the 150,000-unit market verification.

For those users with limited budget but yearning to have a car that can take family to the wild, BJ30 Traveler provides a highly convincing option. It does not require you to pay for brand premium, nor does it require you to make a painful choice between quality and price.

This is probably the most essential meaning of 'Affordable Off-roading': allowing more people to embrace a broader lifestyle with a lower threshold.
