2026-10-03 15:20:00

Model Overview

The Wuling Zhengtu is the first pick-up truck model under SAIC-GM-Wuling's Wuling brand, officially launched on 18 March 2021. Positioned as a "youth pick-up", the vehicle was introduced in two trim levels: the Jinqu Type and Kaituo Type, with official recommended retail prices of RM58,800 and RM62,800 respectively. Serving as a strategic model for Wuling to penetrate the pick-up truck segment, the Zhengtu is built upon the core philosophy of "stylish design, rugged durability, mainstream technology, and low running costs", targeting young entrepreneurs as well as versatile buyers balancing commercial duties and lifestyle pursuits.

Design Language

The Wuling Zhengtu adopts Wuling's signature family design language. The front end is dominated by a large inverted trapezoidal radiator grille with black rounded rectangular inserts, connected to the polygonal headlamp clusters on either side via a broad chrome accent strip that visually widens the front stance. The central red Wuling emblem paired with the distinctive grille pattern enhances the vehicle's front identity. The front bumper sports a rugged profile, leaning towards utilitarian functionality. Along the sides, the vehicle features a double-cab five-seater configuration paired with an extended cargo bed, complemented by black side mirrors, door handles, and chrome badging. The rear styling remains clean and uncluttered, highlighted by embossed "WULING" lettering across the tailgate. Four exterior paint colours are offered to cater to the personalised preferences of younger buyers. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 5,105 mm in length, 1,640 mm in width, and 1,810 mm in height (width increases to 1,700 mm with the optional narrow side steps and 1,815 mm with the wide side steps), with a generous 3,160 mm wheelbase. The interior features a dark grey colour scheme with a simple, utilitarian layout, accented by subtle chrome trim on the air-conditioning vents and steering wheel to add a touch of refinement. The higher-spec variant is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen supporting online navigation and music playback.

Powertrain and Performance

The Wuling Zhengtu is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine (engine code LAR), producing a maximum output of 73 kW (99 PS) and a peak torque of 140 Nm. Power is transmitted exclusively via a 5-speed manual transmission across the range. It adopts a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive (FR) layout. Top speed varies slightly depending on the specific variant configuration. In terms of fuel economy, it returns an NEDC combined fuel consumption of 7.0 L/100 km, translating to an estimated running cost of around RM0.50 per kilometre. The recommended fuel is minimum RON 92 petrol. The kerb weight is approximately 1.3 tonnes, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 2.145 tonnes and a rated payload capacity of 0.499 tonnes.

Chassis and Handling

The Wuling Zhengtu utilises a monocoque body construction, built on the same platform as the Wuling Hongguang. The front suspension employs an independent MacPherson strut setup, while the rear features a leaf spring rigid axle. Steering is handled by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. For the braking system, the front wheels are fitted with ventilated discs, and the rear wheels feature drum brakes. It rides on 175/75 R14 tyres. The approach angle is 26°, while the departure angle stands at 22°. The overall chassis tuning is tailored for heavy-duty utility and load-carrying resilience, while striking a balance between passenger ride comfort and commercial demands.

Cabin and Features

The cabin adopts a "2+3" double-cab five-seater layout. The entry-level Jinqu Type comes standard with essential features including fabric seats, manual air conditioning, power windows, electrically adjustable side mirrors, central locking, and a remote key fob; the Kaituo Type builds on this by adding an 8-inch central touchscreen, reverse camera, multi-function steering wheel, electronic air conditioning, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The cargo bed is one of the Wuling Zhengtu's standout features, offering internal dimensions of 2,000 mm in length, 1,520 mm in width, and 365 mm in depth, with a bed loading height of 790 mm from the ground. Both side drop-gates and the rear tailgate can be lowered to provide a three-way open flatbed setup, lined with a factory polymer-coated protective bedliner that provides wear-resistant, impact-resistant, waterproof, and anti-corrosive properties. The cargo bed is also equipped with practical tie-down rope hooks and tailgate support cables.

Safety and Driver Assistance

In terms of safety equipment, the Wuling Zhengtu comes standard across the range with a driver's SRS airbag, Bosch 9th-generation Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors, and a driver seatbelt reminder. The vehicle structure incorporates a high-strength steel safety cage around the passenger cell, optimising crash protection while maintaining a lightweight body structure. The Kaituo Type adds a reverse camera and tyre pressure monitoring system. Regarding advanced driver assistance, the vehicle does not feature higher-level ADAS functions, focusing instead on core active and passive safety essentials.

Market Performance and Reception

The Wuling Zhengtu achieved remarkable market performance upon its launch. Deliveries exceeded 6,000 units in its first month, and April sales reached 6,385 units, registering a 6% month-on-month increase. Cumulative sales quickly surpassed the 10,000-unit mark in its initial launch phase. In the pick-up segment, the Zhengtu's sales volume ranked closely behind established offerings from Great Wall Motor (GWM) and JMC. In 2025, the Wuling Zhengtu Camping Edition continued to draw strong market interest with its competitive price range of RM58,800 to RM62,800.

From owner reviews, the pick-up is widely lauded for its accessible price point, the impressive utility of its 2-metre flat three-way drop-side cargo bed, and its economical fuel consumption of 7.0 L/100 km. Conversely, some owners noted that the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine can feel slightly underpowered when carrying full payloads; the lineup is strictly manual with no automatic transmission (AT) option; and the cabin is predominantly trimmed in hard plastics, leaving room for improvement in refinement. Additionally, the lack of a 4WD system places certain limitations on its capability over rugged, unpaved terrain.

The rollout of the Wuling Zhengtu not only expanded Wuling's product portfolio but also carved out a fresh market niche through its differentiated "youth pick-up" concept. Ahead of its official launch, Wuling introduced three factory-customised show vehicles: the "Jilang Zhengtu" (Fishing Edition), "Yuejing Zhengtu" (Camping Edition), and "Yuhan Zhengtu" (Skiing Edition), showcasing the vehicle's lifestyle versatility and customisation potential. Overall, underpinned by its core value proposition of "accessible pricing, a 2-metre flat three-way drop-side bed, and low running costs", the Wuling Zhengtu has carved out a unique competitive presence in the Chinese entry-level pick-up market through precise youth-oriented positioning and outstanding practicality.
