Volkswagen Viloran

2026-10-04 21:20:00

Model Overview

The Viloran is SAIC Volkswagen's flagship large MPV, first locally launched in 2020 as a key strategic model for the Volkswagen brand in China's MPV segment. The 2026 Volkswagen Viloran was officially rolled out on 30 September 2025. As an annual facelift model, it comes in five available variants. The official retail price is tagged between RM289,800 and RM402,800, accompanied by a limited-time promotional nett price lowering the entry point to RM199,900 to RM304,900. This model update introduces a key restructuring to the line-up—phasing out the previous 330TSI Luxury Edition in favour of the newly added 380TSI Yuexiang Edition priced at RM234,900, effectively lowering the price of admission for the high-output 2.0T engine. Positioned for both family outings and corporate chauffeuring duties, the MPV primarily rivals contenders like the Buick GL8 Land Business Class, Toyota Sienna, and Denza D9.

Design Language

The 2026 Viloran retains Volkswagen’s signature family design, delivering an imposing and stately road presence. Up front, a bold chrome grille is seamlessly integrated with the redesigned LED headlights. In profile, the silhouette features sleek character lines, where an elongated body meets a rising shoulder line to strike a balance between elegance and athletic stance. The rear styling remains clean and uncluttered, exuding the poised, solid aesthetic typical of a German MPV.

In terms of dimensions, the 2026 Viloran measures 5,346 mm in length, 1,976 mm in width, and 1,781 mm in height, riding on a generous 3,180 mm wheelbase. These figures place it comfortably in the upper tier of its segment, with its wheelbase ranking among the longest in its class. Buyers can choose from five exterior colours: Danxia Red, Corona Gold, Floating Cloud White, Basalt Black, and Iceland Silver. Depending on the variant, wheel choices include 18-inch, 19-inch, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the 2026 Viloran showcases Volkswagen’s latest cabin design, offered in two-tone beige or brown palettes complemented by dark red woodgrain trim panels. The dashboard features a classic T-shaped layout, housing a 10.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster alongside a 12-inch (or 10-inch) floating central infotainment touchscreen. Gear shifts are managed via a modern electronic toggle selector. The centre console is further accentuated with brushed metallic trim. Upholstery choices range from premium fabric and fabric-leather combinations to microfibre leather and diamond-quilted luxury microfibre leather. The entire line-up features a 2+2+3 seven-seater configuration.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the bonnet, the 2026 Viloran continues with Volkswagen's trusted EA888 2.0T four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, offered in two states of tune:

  • 330TSI (Standard Output): Pushes out 137 kW (186 PS) and 320 Nm of torque.

  • 380TSI (High Output): Generates 162 kW (220 PS) and 350 Nm of torque.

Both engines are paired exclusively with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch DSG transmission. On the WLTC combined cycle, the 330TSI records a rated fuel consumption of approximately 7.76 L/100 km, while the 380TSI is rated at 8.17 L/100 km. The powertrain prioritises progressive power delivery and fuel economy, tuned specifically for plush everyday cruising to suit mainstream MPV expectations.

Chassis and Handling

Built on Volkswagen's MQB modular architecture, the Viloran rides on front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension. The decision to use a multi-link rear setup over a basic torsion beam places it at a higher specification within this class. The suspension is tuned for ride comfort, effectively soaking up road imperfections in line with its executive MPV brief. It operates on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration.

Behind the wheel, the German-tuned chassis delivers a reassuringly planted, high-speed stability. However, given its substantial footprint exceeding 5.3 metres, low-speed manoeuvrability and cornering agility are naturally somewhat compromised.

Cabin and Equipment

On the connectivity front, the 2026 Viloran runs the MOS 3.2 infotainment system, featuring support for wireless Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife, and HUAWEI HiCar screen mirroring. High-spec trims also offer gesture controls.

Creature comforts have also been bolstered across the 2026 range. The newly introduced 380TSI Yuexiang Edition improves upon the 330TSI Business Edition by adding dual power sliding doors and a reverse camera, upgrading to 19-inch wing-style premium alloy wheels, and adding a height memory function for the powered tailgate. Standard across the range are dual smart anti-pinch power sliding doors and a hands-free kick-sensor powered tailgate. Even the base model comes well-appointed with a panoramic glass sunroof, automatic headlamps, rear privacy glass, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and tri-zone automatic climate control.

The top-spec variant adds premium appointments such as ventilated front seats, IQ.360 360-degree camera system, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system (with 7.1-channel surround sound and a centre speaker), a 30-colour ambient lighting system, and Lane Change Assist. To improve NVH refinement, the top trim is fitted with 4.96 mm VSG acoustic double-glazed glass on all side doors.

Cargo-wise, the Viloran boasts a deep boot capacity even with all seats up, expandable to a maximum of 2,100 litres. Even when carrying a full load of seven passengers, it easily swallows four 24-inch luggage bags. The second and third rows can be adjusted flexibly to cater to varied family or executive transport needs.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance

In terms of active safety, the Viloran comes fitted with the IQ.Drive suite, delivering Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Key features include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Park Assist, Auto Brake Hold, and Hill Start Assist. The Lane Change Assist system monitors blind spots for approaching traffic, while the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) provides alerts and applies braking when a collision risk is detected ahead. Front and rear parking sensors alongside a reverse camera (upgraded to a 360-degree camera on higher trims) are fitted across the board. Passive safety equipment includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length curtain airbags spanning front to rear.

Market Performance and Reception

The Viloran’s sales performance in China’s MPV segment has seen noticeable fluctuations. In August 2025, the Viloran recorded 728 units, placing it 18th in the large MPV category. Monthly deliveries stood at 751 units in May 2025, with full-year sales for 2025 closing at around 10,954 units. December 2025 saw a rebound to 1,622 units. Nonetheless, there remains a distinct volume gap between the Viloran and segment frontrunners like the Buick GL8 Land Business Class and Toyota Sienna.

The Viloran previously experienced a temporary sales surge via an aggressive nett-pricing strategy—following the RM199,900 promotional price announced at the November 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, sales jumped to 3,857 units the following month before tapering off. The 2026 line-up retains this value-led pricing approach, though its ability to sustain long-term sales momentum remains to be seen.

From media critiques and owner feedback, the Viloran is widely praised for its exceptional second-row seat comfort, generous cabin space courtesy of its 3.18-metre-plus wheelbase, and composed, European ride quality. Recurring owner remarks frequently highlight its "huge cabin space," "understated styling," and "superb seating comfort". On the flip side, its sheer bulk compromises tight-space manoeuvrability, while some owners have noted that high-speed wind and road noise insulation could be better. As SAIC Volkswagen's flagship MPV contender, the Viloran continues to carve out its niche in an intensely competitive MPV market through its compelling blend of German engineering and generous passenger space.
