UWB Key

2026-10-26 04:50:00

The UWB Key (Ultra-Wideband Digital Key) represents the ultimate evolution in modern smart vehicle passive entry and digital key technology. Unlike conventional digital keys that rely on Bluetooth or Near Field Communication (NFC), UWB utilizes nanosecond-level ultra-narrow pulse signals for wireless transmission. This delivers exceptionally high absolute ranging accuracy (precise down to the centimetre level) alongside robust anti-multipath interference capability. Beyond eliminating the need for physical car keys, its pinpoint spatial positioning thoroughly resolves longstanding safety flaws seen in standard Bluetooth passive entry—such as accidental unlocking when standing outside the car due to weak RSSI diffraction, or vehicle theft via relay attacks.

Core Technical Architecture and Operating Principle

The technical architecture of the UWB key primarily comprises the built-in UWB chip in a smartphone or smart band, multiple UWB receiver anchors distributed around the vehicle body, the Body Control Module (BCM), and the vehicle chassis security gateway:

Nanosecond Pulse Time-of-Flight Ranging and Spatial 3D Positioning:

When the driver approaches the vehicle carrying a UWB-enabled smartphone, the vehicle's onboard base stations and the phone exchange nanosecond-level wireless pulses at an ultra-high frequency. By calculating the signal's Time of Flight (ToF) through the air and combining it with cross-triangulation algorithms across multiple body-mounted antenna anchors, the system instantly computes the driver's exact 3D coordinates and real-time movement path relative to the vehicle with centimetre precision.

Secure Ranging Against Relay Attacks and Smart Welcome Interaction:

Relying on hardware-level physical timestamp verification, UWB technology accurately detects whether a wireless signal has been maliciously amplified, effectively neutralising the radio relay theft vulnerabilities that plague traditional Bluetooth keys. Only when the system confirms that the driver is walking directly towards the vehicle (such as within a 1.5-metre radius) will it automatically pop out the flush door handles, unfold the side mirrors, and securely decrypt and unlock the doors—delivering a seamless, hands-free walk-up unlocking experience.

Safety Specifications and Physical Limitations

Do not force the use of passive entry if mobile devices such as smartphones have sustained severe impact damage, physical fractures to internal UWB RF antennas, or unauthorised jailbreak modifications to low-level system wireless permissions (Prohibiting Forcing UWB Entry When Smartphone Antennas Break or Systems Suffer Unauthorized Jailbreaks):

The centimetre-level accuracy of UWB strictly depends on the total integrity of both hardware and software. Never use smartphones that have been tampered with, rooted, or flashed with unverified third-party low-level firmware as the primary UWB key. Doing so compromises cryptographic authentication protocols or corrupts positioning algorithms, substantially elevating the risk of unauthorised vehicle intrusion.

Do not rely on UWB entry if the vehicle battery is severely drained, the main electrical architecture is in deep sleep mode, and the distributed UWB anchor sensors cannot respond due to a loss of power (Prohibiting Relying on UWB Entry When Vehicle Batteries Are Severely Depleted and Anchors Lose Power):

Although smartphones operate on independent battery power, the vehicle's UWB receiver anchors rely entirely on the car's low-voltage power supply. Never attempt to force vehicle entry via UWB when the 12V battery is completely flat after prolonged parking. Under these conditions, the physical mechanical key must be used via the manual keyhole to unlock the car; do not delay your journey waiting for a wireless wake-up signal.
