U-Belief

2026-05-24 11:40:01

U-Belief is a micro electric vehicle brand that once garnered significant anticipation within China's new energy vehicle sector. Affiliated with the Baoneng Group, the brand was established in 2021 as one of Baoneng Automotive’s three passenger car brands, alongside Qoros and BAO. Positioned as a "refined trendy brand," U-Belief focuses specifically on small electric vehicles.

The brand’s logo features the English name "U-Belief" alongside its Chinese counterpart. The design highlights the first letter "U," which is enlarged and filled with a two-tone background, creating an overall aesthetic that emphasizes youth and vitality.

The U-Belief brand adopts the concept "Born with the tide, stand by leading the tide," primarily targeting the A00 to A0 class new energy pure electric vehicle market. It is committed to creating an exquisite travel life for hundreds of millions of Chinese families. However, affected by the financial difficulties faced by its parent company, Baoneng Automotive Group, the brand’s first model, the A3, experienced repeated cycles of "mass production announcements followed by delays." Consequently, it failed to achieve scaled market delivery. As of mid-2026, due to issues such as a ruptured capital chain, the U-Belief A3 has not truly entered substantive mass production, and the Baoneng Auto Sales Company has confirmed that there are currently "no cars to sell."

Development History

U-Belief is a key brand launched by Baoneng Group Chairman Yao Zhenhua in an effort to reverse the downturn in the company’s automotive business. Between 2017 and 2020, Baoneng acquired Qoros Auto and took over Changan PSA with significant capital investment; however, the market response and operational performance fell short of expectations. Against this backdrop, Baoneng officially established the U-Belief brand in 2021, positioning it as an entry-level value brand.

The U-Belief A3 is the brand’s first model. The vehicle was officially unveiled at a dealer partner conference in September 2022 and completed its declaration with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in October of the same year. In October 2023, Baoneng announced that the U-Belief A3 had officially entered the mass production stage at its Xi’an factory, setting a sales target of 20,000 units for the year. However, subsequent sales figures remained unclear, and this goal was not achieved. In June 2025, the Baoneng Automotive Shenzhen factory announced a resumption of production, marking another "restart" for the U-Belief A3, alongside a channel recruitment plan for second- and third-tier cities. Despite Baoneng Automotive’s official statements that operations were normal, negative public sentiment regarding the dissolution and liquidation of related entities persisted.

Entering 2026, Baoneng’s initial outlook was optimistic. In its early-year resumption of production and work plan, the company projected that if Qoros could complete bankruptcy reorganization and secure 2 billion yuan in funding, it would achieve total production and sales of 120,000 units in 2026, with the U-Belief A3 accounting for 50,000 of those units. However, on January 15, an insider from Baoneng Auto Sales Company confirmed to the media that due to a significant funding gap, Baoneng and the U-Belief brand currently had "no cars to sell," and the U-Belief A3 had "not entered the mass production stage." As of May 2026, the U-Belief A3 remains in a state of stagnation, having yet to achieve a substantive launch in the mass market.

Brand Matrix / Product Line

As of May 2026, the U-Belief brand has only one model, the U-Belief A3. The vehicle is positioned as an A00-class, three-door, four-seat pure electric micro-car, featuring a rounded design style and bright color schemes, with a focus on exquisite fashion and trendy fun.

The U-Belief A3 has a body size of 2,981 mm in length, 1,509 mm in width, and 1,616 mm (or 1,615 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 1,940 mm. Its appearance adopts a closed front-face design, with the brand's "U-Belief" logo embedded in the center, accompanied by a through-type light strip and C-shaped headlamps. The rear features an E-shaped light source design, with fog lights and reverse lights on both sides. In terms of power, it is equipped with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor produced by Ningbo Shuanglin, with a maximum power of 20 kW, matched with a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack. Regarding range, the vehicle offers three versions: 120 km, 170 km, and up to 200 km. The top speed is 100 km/h. The vehicle provides up to five body color options, with the base version selling for between 40,000 and 50,000 RMB.

Baoneng Automotive once planned U-Belief's second model, the A6, and later intended to import it for production at the Qoros Changshu factory. However, to date, the A6 has not shown any actual vehicle to the public, and there is no clear mass production schedule.

Market Performance

Since U-Belief brand appeared in 2021, although it caused multiple rounds of public attention with launch releases, resumption statements, etc., there is almost no data on actual terminal delivery. In October 2023 although mass production was claimed, no substantial sales were generated. In June 2025 when the brand announced "new car off the line" again, the photos taken by the media on site only had a few scattered cars.Due to the lack of sales data, Baoneng Automotive Group was never able to recapitalize funds through U-Belief's market entry, but instead caused its debt snowball to roll larger and larger. By the beginning of 2026, Baoneng Automotive Group's executed amount was close to 12 billion RMB, and Baoneng Investment Group was as high as 48 billion yuan.Against this background, Baoneng Auto Sales internal personnel revealed that they actually have "no cars to sell".

Core Technology

U-Belief A3 adopts a relatively standard technical scheme in the micro electric vehicle field, mainly covering three major core sectors: motor, battery, and chassis.

Electric Powertrain: U-Belief A3 is equipped with a front-engine front-drive (FF) layout permanent magnet synchronous motor, single motor drive, maximum power 20kW.Battery is from Gotion High-Tech, for Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. The vehicle supports home slow charging, specific DC fast charging configuration has not been announced.

Chassis Structure: Adopts a unibody structure, suspension system is front MacPherson independent suspension and rear twist beam non-independent suspension, balancing the ride comfort of small cars and chassis load-bearing rigidity.

Manufacturing: Baoneng claims that U-Belief will be produced in its three major production bases: Xi'an factory first undertook the A3 project, belonging to Baoneng's first independent vehicle manufacturing base, with highly automated and multi-model assembly line production capability; Shenzhen factory has manufacturing experience and quality management system for luxury car production; Changshu factory integrates world-class production equipment from German Thyssenkrupp, KUKA, Siemens, etc.

Overseas Layout

Baoneng Group claimed in 2024 that U-Belief actively expanded overseas markets, focusing on expanding Russia, Central Asia, South America, Middle East, Southeast Asia and other markets.According to Baoneng's plan, the product matrix of U-Belief brand includes export versions.Baoneng Group once disclosed that it has signed cooperation agreements with multiple overseas partners, and U-Belief A3 and Qoros 7 and other models have collectively won nearly 20,000 overseas orders. However, limited by A3's inability to have stable mass production capability, whether these overseas orders can be converted into actual delivery involves great uncertainty.

As of May 2026, U-Belief has not established any official sales outlets in any overseas country, except for Baoneng's mentioned "long-term export plan", the brand has no substantive overseas delivery data.

Future Prospects

The prospect of the U-Belief brand is highly bound to Baoneng's reconstruction in the Chinese automotive industry. Founder Yao Zhenhua pinned the hope of Qoros and U-Belief's turnaround on the completion of the bankruptcy reorganization procedure and the injection of external capital.According to the plan disclosed by Baoneng at the beginning of 2026, if about 2 billion yuan in funds can be introduced, Qoros will use about 10 months to resume production, at which time U-Belief A3 can be imported to Qoros Changshu factory for rapid mass production, and first convert the achieved export orders into delivery.Under this assumption, Baoneng expects U-Belief A3's annual production and sales in the late stage of 2026 to reach about 50,000 units.

But industry insiders pointed out that even if reorganization is successful, brands under Baoneng still need to face the white-hot competition pattern of the micro electric vehicle market. Currently Wuling Hongguang MINI EV, Changan Lumin, Geely Panda MINI and other models, relying on strong supply chain and cost advantages, have completely occupied the dominant position of the A00 class market. If U-Belief A3 can only be delivered on a large scale from the second half of 2026 to 2027, it will face great market risk and brand trust crisis. Once reorganization fails, the U-Belief brand faces the danger of ending together with Baoneng Automotive.Overall, the future of the U-Belief brand depends almost entirely on the parent company's legal reorganization process and whether capital injection can be successfully implemented, with the short-term prospects existing great uncertainty.
