Tramontana is a top-tier manual supercar brand originating from the Catalonia region of Spain, founded by designer Josep Rubau in 2005. The word "Tramontana" comes from Catalan, originally referring to the Mediterranean north wind with wind speeds exceeding 200 km/h; this name reflects the brand's Spanish heritage while hinting at its hurricane-like speed. Tramontana headquarters is located in the Costa Brava region of Catalonia, with the core concept of "Road F1," specializing in the manual manufacturing of multi-million level supercars, with an annual production of only 12 units.
The concept of Tramontana can be traced back to 1996, when a British car collector expressed to Josep Rubau that modern cars are no longer manufactured purely according to traditional craftsmanship as in the past. Touched by this, Rubau began to create an ideal vehicle that combines F1 racing technology and road car aesthetics.
In 2005, the Tramontana brand was officially founded in Spain. At the Geneva Motor Show that same year, the brand's first concept car made a stunning debut, leaving a deep impression on the industry with its extremely aggressive design language. In 2007, the brand released another concept version at the Geneva Motor Show, and officially brought the Tramontana sports car into mass production that same year. In 2009, the mass-produced Tramontana R had its global premiere at the Monaco Luxury Show. In 2010, the car first debuted in the Chinese market at the Guangzhou Auto Show, quoted at 16.8 million RMB in the Chinese market. Subsequently, the brand also launched a limited version with stronger performance, Tramontana XTR, limited to 12 units globally.
Tramontana products are extremely streamlined, focusing on ultimate performance and high customization.
Tramontana R: The brand's most representative mass-produced model, launched in 2009. This car introduced the fighter aircraft inline two-seat layout to road sports cars for the first time, breaking the design paradigm of traditional supercars with side-by-side two seats. The whole vehicle uses a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, equipped with a Mercedes-AMG 5.5-liter V12 twin-turbo engine, offering 550 hp and 720 hp two power modes to choose from, matched with a six-speed sequential gearbox. 0-100 km/h acceleration takes only 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/h acceleration 10.15 seconds, electronically limited to 325 km/h. The body and chassis are handcrafted with aluminum-magnesium alloy and carbon fiber, curb weight is only 1268 kg, front-to-rear weight distribution 42:58. Equipped with Brembo carbon-ceramic brake system, Ohlins adjustable suspension (height adjustment range 85—135 mm) and 20-inch carbon fiber magnesium alloy wheels.
Tramontana XTR: A limited version further strengthened on the basis of the R model, first debuted in 2012, only 12 units produced globally. Equipped with the same 5.5-liter V12 twin-turbo engine of the same model, but retuned, maximum power increased to 888—900 hp. Vehicle weight approx. 1250—1360 kg, 0-100 km/h acceleration 3.6 seconds, top speed up to 344—350 km/h. XTR supports deep customization services, power units and personalized interior/exterior configurations can be changed according to customer requirements. In 2017, Bulgarian tuning brand Vilner once launched a gold-painted customized XTR model which debuted at the SEMA Tuning Show.
A.D. Tramontana: Brand early model code, adopted an integrated combat cockpit design basically the same as the R model, exposed suspension and aerodynamic kits made its drag coefficient reach 0.40. Also equipped with a 720 hp V12 twin-turbo engine, and features high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes and a four-way traction control system.
In addition, the brand also accepts comprehensive customization services from global customers, every Tramontana can be personalized according to the owner's preferences, including body color, interior materials, and even power calibration, ensuring every car is a unique exclusive vehicle.
Tramontana pursues an extreme low-volume manual customization route. Since the mass production of the first model in 2007, the total cumulative production of the entire brand is extremely limited, with annual production of only about 12 units, all handcrafted. Its selling price in overseas markets is about 385,000 Euro (excluding various taxes and customization fees), but due to its unique cockpit layout and extremely aggressive racing design, the brand has always stayed within an extremely niche supercar collection circle.
In the Chinese market, Tramontana was introduced in 2010 by Beijing Hengxiang Yongrui Trading Co., Ltd. The quoted price for this car in the Chinese market was as high as 16.8 million RMB, with the total landing price close to 20 million. At the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show, the brand once invited famous car model Zhai Ling (Shushu) to support and promote it. However, due to the brand's extremely low awareness, extremely aggressive exterior design, and overly high pricing, the only Tramontana in China remained unsold in the showroom for over 14 years, later becoming part of the collection of the Beijing FFF Supercar Club. Subsequently, the brand failed to establish an effective dealer network and did not launch new products in the Chinese market again.
Tramontana's core technology is built around three major fields. In terms of lightweight materials, the whole vehicle uses an aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis frame, combined with a large amount of carbon fiber material coverings, keeping the curb weight at the 1268 kg level. In terms of powertrain, the brand relies on the 5.5-liter V12 twin-turbo engine provided by Mercedes-AMG, adopting a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, forming a racing-level power system together with a sequential gearbox. In terms of chassis and handling, equipped with Formula-grade suspension system, Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs, four-way traction control system and carbon fiber magnesium alloy wheels. Drag coefficient as low as 0.40. Suspension system supports 85—135 mm height adjustment, accommodating both track and road dual scenario needs. In terms of cockpit design, the combat-style tandem two-seat layout and no-door lift-up canopy design are its most recognizable technical features.
Tramontana production base is located in the Costa Brava region of Catalonia, Spain, all vehicles are hand-assembled here. The brand does not set up overseas branch factories, global sales are all based on direct order channels. Regarding the Asia-Pacific market, Tramontana once expanded the Chinese market through Beijing Hengxiang Yongrui Trading Co., Ltd. in 2010, but failed to continue afterward. The brand has a small number of collector clients in the US, other European regions, and the Middle East market. Some customer custom vehicles, after modification by professional tuners, debuted at major international car shows.
As of 2026, Tramontana has not officially announced an electrification or hybridization roadmap, nor released a clear plan for future new models. Between 2025 and 2026, the brand had no publicly released facelift models, and global annual production continued to remain at the single-digit level. Tramontana's positioning in the global car market will still remain in the extremely niche supercar collector exclusive field, continuing its consistent "manual customization + limited production" model.
