2026-06-01 11:10:00

Theon Design is an elite British automotive restoration house, specializing in the ultimate redesign and handcrafted creation of the Porsche 964-generation 911 (produced 1989–1994). The brand headquarters is located in the picturesque village of Deddington in Oxfordshire, UK, situated in the heart of the famous British "Motorsport Valley"—the home of F1 racing and the global heart of precision automotive and racing technology. Theon Design adheres to a highly customized one-on-one personalized design route, using "OEM+" (beyond original factory standards) as a technical benchmark, establishing an unprecedented deep connection between classic aesthetics and modern performance through full carbon fiber lightweight bodywork, deep reinforcement of air-cooled flat-six engines, and handcrafted precision, regarded as one of the world's top modification manufacturers.

History

Theon Design was officially registered in the UK on September 16, 2016, by Adam Hawley and Lucinda Argy. Founder Adam Hawley is a top-tier automotive designer with over 20 years of industry experience, having served multiple global top OEMs including BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Lotus, Lexus, participating in the design of concept cars and mass-produced vehicles, even providing design support for the Airbus A380. The motivation to create the brand stemmed from Adam's own genuine need—he once commissioned an external team to modify a Porsche 911, resulting in an "excruciating" experience, prompting him to decide to utilize over 20 years of his design, engineering, and materials knowledge to personally craft a truly perfect classic 911. The brand name "Theon" was taken from Adam's young son Theo—it was this Porsche 911 he built that sparked the child's passion for automobiles.

At the inception of the brand, there was only one prototype based on the 911 SC paired with a 993 racing engine; the enthusiastic response directly catalyzed the establishment of Theon Design. Subsequently, the brand developed steadily with an extremely rare, very low-volume personalized customization model, successively launching exclusive works named with "Region Code + Serial Number" such as HK002 (Hong Kong client), ITA001 (Italian client), GBR002 (UK local), BELL001 (Belgian client), CHL001 (Chilean client), and more. In 2024, the brand launched its first modification work based on the 964 Targa. In October of the same year, Theon Design released the flagship model Theon R, which adopts an F1-level carbon fiber monocoque, limited to 24 units, becoming a milestone in the brand's history. As of early 2026, Theon Design has sequentially completed approximately 16 customized models.

Product Portfolio

Theon Design does not have a fixed product line, strictly following a fully custom production model driven by client commissions; each work has a unique "Region Code + Serial Number" name. Main works completed and planned to date include:

HK002 (First Released 2021): The brand's third customized work, tailored for a Hong Kong client. Based on the 964-generation 911, using 3D digital precise modeling, carbon fiber body and cockpit structure, curb weight only 1248 kg, equipped with a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated air-cooled six-cylinder engine, maximum power 371 hp, peak torque 407 N·m, matched with a six-speed manual transmission.

ITA001 (Delivered 2023): Custom Coupe model built for an Italian client, using a full carbon fiber body (only doors retain steel), overall curb weight 1152 kg, equipped with a 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six engine, outputting 400 hp, fitted with a rare Porsche 993 RS six-speed transmission and TracTive five-stage adaptive electronic damping system.

CHL001 (First Released 2024): Theon Design work featuring a full carbon fiber body built for the first time for a Chilean client, body weight reduced by 100 kg, curb weight lowered to 1165 kg, equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated air-cooled six-cylinder engine, outputting 400 hp.

GBR003 Targa (First Released 2024): Brand's first Targa model, with all body panels except steel doors made of carbon fiber, curb weight 1228 kg, 437 kg lighter than the modernized 992-generation Targa, equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated air-cooled six-cylinder engine, outputting 403 hp, weight distribution optimized to 48:52.

ICE GREEN 964 (Delivered 2025): Extracting over 100 hp/liter of extreme specific output with 407 hp from a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine, matched with precision-tuned TracTive semi-active suspension, suspension settings optimized for British road conditions ensure excellent handling while maintaining road comfort.

Theon R (Released October 2024, Deliveries from 2026): Brand flagship model, inspired by the original Porsche 911 R and 1980s Club Sport, entire vehicle adopts an F1-level carbon fiber monocoque cockpit and full carbon fiber body, magnesium alloy-carbon fiber composite wheels, equipped with carbon ceramic braking systems and Porsche racing Motion Control Suspension system. Curb weight only 998 kg, target power reaching 500 hp, power-to-weight ratio far exceeding contemporary Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Globally limited to only 24 units, each taking 18 months to build, starting price approximately $1 million (excluding base car).

Market Performance

Theon Design adopts a pure custom direct sales model, without a dealer network. Each vehicle takes around 18 months from reaching a commission intent to final delivery. In terms of pricing, the hardtop Coupe version starts at approximately £390,000 (excluding base car and taxes), the Targa version adds approximately £25,000. Due to extremely limited production and a fully handmade manufacturing method with one-car-one-price, actual transaction prices are generally higher than the public starting price. The minimum investment threshold for CHL001 is about $690,000 (including base car and taxes). Theon R flagship model tax-inclusive delivery price reaches 1.4 million CAD (approximately $1 million USD). As of early 2026, the brand has cumulatively completed about 16 customized works. Annual production is approximately 6 units.

Technology and Innovation

Theon Design's core technology is built around four modules. In terms of lightweight design, the brand uses a full carbon fiber body structure, using F1-level aviation-grade carbon fiber to build the monocoque cockpit and all exterior parts, and uses aviation-grade lightweight wiring harnesses, ensuring the final product curb weight is generally controlled at the 1150 kg level. In the powertrain field, the brand focuses on deeply tapping the ultimate potential of naturally aspirated air-cooled flat-six engines, adopting Jenvey independent throttle systems, custom high-flow intake and exhaust, Bosch electronic ignition and self-developed drive-by-wire throttle and four-mode switchable engine mapping systems, which can push a 3.8-liter engine to over 100 hp/liter of extreme specific output. In terms of chassis and suspension, equipped with TracTive semi-active electronic adaptive damping systems, and are the first to install chassis lift kits in the modification field. The braking system originates from Porsche 993 RS racing-grade high-performance units. At the craft and quality level, the brand performs 3D digital scanning and full-body weld reinforcement strengthening on each base car, all modified parts adhere to OEM-level design and manufacturing standards.

Global Presence

Theon Design headquarters is located in Oxfordshire, UK, without overseas subsidiaries or production lines. Customers worldwide primarily contact the brand headquarters directly through word-of-mouth and social media channels, with orders coming from Continental Europe (Italy, Belgium, Germany, France), North America, Chile, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region (especially Hong Kong, China). The brand maintains long-term cooperation with top suppliers worldwide, including Jenvey (independent throttle), TracTive (adaptive suspension), Hewland (transmission), Recaro (seats), Focal (car audio), and Michelin (tires). There are currently no official agents or branches within China.

Future Outlook

Theon Design will continue to adhere to a purely handmade, low-volume, extreme customization manufacturing route in the future, with annual production remaining at a very low level of around six units. The delivery plan for the limited 24 units of the Theon R flagship series entered the delivery phase in 2026. The brand will continue to launch new custom projects based on the 964-generation 911. Against the backdrop of increasingly strong electrification trends in the industry, Theon Design has not announced any electrification transition roadmap. Instead, it is dedicated to pushing the classic 911 architecture, equipped with the last generation of air-cooled flat-six engines, to the peak of extreme performance, thereby building an increasingly powerful brand reputation among global car collectors and classic sports car enthusiasts.
