Solaris Bus & Coach (known as Solaris, parent company is Spanish commercial vehicle giant CAF Group) is the "super giant" and leader in the global and European public transport zero-emission field, with headquarters and core manufacturing base located in Bolechowo, near Poznan, Poland. In the global public transport low-carbon transformation map of 2026, Solaris plays the role of a technical paradigm definer.

Different from traditional passenger car brands, Solaris has firmly defended its passenger transport territory in City Buses, Intercity Coaches, and Trolleybuses for 30 years. The brand adheres to the pragmatic long-term strategy of "advancing Pure Electric, Hydrogen, and Trolleybus lines together". As of 2026, more than 25,000 Solaris buses have shuttled through over 850 cities in 33 countries. In the European Zero-Emission city bus market, Solaris's cumulative historical sales rank first in all of Europe.

Development History

Craftsman Foundation (1996-2018): The brand was officially founded by the couple Krzysztof Olszewski in 1996, initially gaining instant popularity in German-speaking regions and Central/Eastern Europe with the classic Urbino low-floor bus series. In 2018, the Spanish rail transport and commercial vehicle giant CAF Group completed the full transfer of 100% equity in Solaris, injecting substantial capital and cross-border railway-grade electrification engineering genes into it.  

Green Miracle (2019-2025): Relying on CAF's global network, Solaris experienced an explosive historical leap. Its Urbino 18 hydrogen fuel cell articulated bus won the highest honor in the industry—the "2025 Bus of the Year" award. In the 2025 fiscal year, the brand created an unprecedented record with €1.183 billion annual revenue (a 28% surge YoY), securing 2,780 vehicle orders in total (new energy vehicles accounting for nearly 90%).  

Modern Peak (2026): Entering 2026, Solaris launched a crazy "harvest mode" in the global public high-end capacity circle. At the beginning of the year, it secured a huge order for 378 pure electric coaches from Swedish VR Sverige and Nobina combined, and successfully entered North America, providing 184 custom high-capacity trolleybuses for the Vancouver TransLink transit system. Mid-May 2026, at the Next Mobility 2026 International Transport Exhibition held in Milan, Italy, Solaris officially launched the new generation Urbino 10.5 electric modular pure electric midibus worldwide, which won the "2026 Sustainable Bus Award". It also deepened its exclusive stack strategic grid connection agreement on the new hydrogen passenger bus platform with hydrogen fuel cell giant Ballard. Its throne status remains unshakable.

Urbino Electric Series: The brand's absolute core sales pillar. Covers 10.5m (2026 model Milan premiere new product), 12m standard single unit, and 18m large capacity articulated models (Articulated). Market Performance

In the 2026 global public procurement (Tender) field, Solaris showed extremely terrifying asset monetization and defensive capabilities. Solaris's hardcore strength is by no means simple body assembly, but the perfect rigid integration of vehicle-grade railroad electrification control and high-efficiency three-electric systems:

Modular "Tower-less" Drive Topology: 2026 model Urbino 10.5/12/18 pure electric buses fully replaced with high-power high-efficiency integrated electric drive axles or central water-cooled permanent magnet synchronous electric drive systems (rated power reaching 240 kW to 300 kW). 550 kWh Level High Efficiency Overhead Battery System: Optional high-density liquid-cooled lithium battery chassis/roof solution up to 400 kWh to 550 kWh overhead, granting 12m pure electric buses up to 400 km solid single trip range, perfectly meeting the city bus "daily operation, no need for mid-journey recharging" iron law. Vehicles fully compatible with traditional Plug-in and roof high-power high-current inverted/downward pressing Pantograph fast charging.  

New Generation Efficient Heat Pump Air Conditioning and GSR2 Safety Barrier: 2026 models all series native standard configuration of environmentally friendly environmental medium heat pump cooling and heating air conditioning, heating energy consumption reduced by more than 40% under -20°C extreme cold conditions. At the same time, the entire vehicle fully complies with the EU's strictest GSR2 (General Safety Regulation), embedded 360° blind spot radar, pedestrian anti-collision warning (MOIS), and fleet intelligent digital telemetry system (eSConnect).

Global Layout

As a "Polish precision manufacturing + Spanish capital synergy" multinational giant, Solaris's technology and production focus are highly concentrated in Poland. All vehicles from forward concept, body-in-white welding, painting to the final three-electric assembly testing are completed in a closed loop in Poland Bolechowo and Środa Wielkopolska modern advanced factories. Through parent company CAF Group deep global channels, Solaris's ASO aftermarket supply chain solution has completed deep grid connection in all of Europe and North America (Canada), successfully smashing geographical barriers.

Future Outlook

Facing the second half of 2026 and mid-2028 strategic period, Solaris's roadmap is extremely clear: "Full ecosystem zero-emission, break circles towards long-distance and intercity passenger transport". With the formal landing of all European long-distance coach and intercity capacity low-carbon regulations, Solaris has initiated its next generation based on the new hydrogen platform and ultra-long range pure electric chassis "cross-regional full green passenger platform" forward R&D.
