SHACMAN Heavy Duty Truck is a backbone force in the heavy-duty truck manufacturing industry in China. Its core operating entity is Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle Co., Ltd., which is subordinate to Shandong Heavy Industry Group and indirectly controlled by Weichai Power. The company was established on September 18, 2002, and is headquartered in the Jingwei Industrial Park of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It has a registered capital of 5.78796 billion RMB, total assets of 67.241 billion RMB (2024), and approximately 8,545 employees (2024). Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle is the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in northwest China and a nationally designated production base for heavy-duty military off-road vehicles. Its products cover heavy-duty military off-road vehicles, heavy trucks, medium trucks, and axles, and it has built a national enterprise technology center, a postdoctoral research workstation, and a new energy laboratory.

Within the SHACMAN system, there are multiple entities that can be easily confused. Clarifying their relationships helps to understand the full brand picture. Shaanxi Automobile Holding Group Co., Ltd. is the highest-level group company in the SHACMAN system, originally founded as Shaanxi Automobile Manufacturing Factory in 1968. SHACMAN Automobile Group Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary under Shaanxi Auto Holdings that undertakes complete vehicle businesses, holding controlling equity in SHACMAN Commercial Vehicle and a minority stake (49%) in Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle. Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle Co., Ltd. is an enterprise jointly established by Shaanxi Group and Xianghuo Ji in 2002; after Weichai acquired Xianghuo Ji in 2007, it became the controlling shareholder (holding 51%). The familiar Delong series heavy trucks all come from Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle. SHACMAN Commercial Vehicle is an enterprise renamed from Baoji Huashan Engineering Vehicle Company by Shaanxi Group in 2018, producing Yan'an and DeYu series medium and light trucks as well as new energy products, and is a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary of Shaanxi Group.

The SHACMAN Heavy Duty Truck brand logo is the wordmark "SHACMAN," concise and powerful. The product matrix is led by the Delong series as its core, with export volumes consistently ranking at the forefront of the industry. The brand has accumulated 555 new energy and intelligent connected vehicle patents and has undertaken two national 863 Program projects. It has successively won numerous national honorary titles, including "National Green Factory" and "National Science and Technology Progress Award Second Prize."

Development History

Military Vehicle Foundation and Third Front Construction Period (1968—2000)

SHACMAN's history traces back to the late 1960s. In 1968, to meet the strategic needs of national defense construction, the Ministry of Machine Building Industry decided to establish the Shaanxi Automobile Manufacturing Factory in Maili Xigou, Qishan County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. In 1969, with strong support from Beijing Automobile Manufacturing Factory, Nanjing Automobile, Hangzhou Automobile Engine Factory, and other entities, the factory was officially founded and constructed, becoming one of the important outcomes of the Third Front Construction. In 1970, Shaanxi Automobile independently developed China's first generation of heavy-duty military off-road vehicles—the Yan'an 250—instantly rewriting China's history of not being able to produce heavy-duty military off-road vehicles. Thereafter, Shaanxi Automobile became the only designated production base for heavy-duty military off-road vehicles in China, successively undertaking the R&D and production tasks for the first, second, and third generations of heavy-duty off-road vehicles in China, and participating in national military parades six times with its heavy-duty military vehicles.

In 1980, Shaanxi Automobile Manufacturing General Factory led a joint venture with Sichuan Automobile Manufacturing General Factory and other enterprises to form the China Heavy Truck Industrial Joint Venture Company (the predecessor of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group). In 1983, Austrian Steyr 91 series heavy truck technology was introduced, with Shaanxi Automobile, Hongyan, and Jinan Heavy Truck sharing the technology and jointly producing Steyr heavy trucks. By the end of the 1990s, Steyr technology had become increasingly outdated, and the China Heavy Truck Joint Venture Company fell into significant losses. In 2000, China Heavy Truck officially split, and Shaanxi Automobile was placed under independent Shaanxi management, inheriting over 8 billion RMB in liabilities, and operations fell into unprecedented difficulties.

Joint Venture Restructuring and "Golden Power Chain" Formation Period (2002—2010)

In 2002, Shaanxi Automobile Group and Xianghuo Ji jointly established Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle Co., Ltd., with Xianghuo Ji holding 51% and Shaanxi Automobile Group holding 49%. The following year, Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle introduced German MAN truck technology, successfully creating the Delong series heavy truck product, and the brand embarked on a path of rapid development. In 2004, Shaanxi Automobile began construction of a 3,500 mu (approximately 574 acres) new base in the northern suburbs of the Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone, with an investment of 1.98 billion RMB. The Delong F2000 heavy truck rolled off the line, marking the birth of the third generation of heavy trucks. In 2007, Weichai Power acquired Xianghuo Ji and became the controlling shareholder of Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle. Relying on the industrial chain synergy advantages of Weichai engines, Fast Gear transmissions, and Hande axles, Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle's "Golden Power Chain" combination quickly became an industry benchmark.

High-end and New Energy Transformation Period (2011—2024)

In 2018, Shaanxi Automobile Group renamed its Baoji Vehicle Factory to SHACMAN Commercial Vehicle, forming a dual-core driven brand pattern of "Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle" and "SHACMAN Commercial Vehicle." In 2020, the independently developed high-end platform Delong X6000 was launched, marking Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck's official entry into a new stage of high-end and intelligent development. That same year, Shaanxi Automobile developed China's first LNG new energy heavy truck, holding 832 new energy and intelligent connected vehicle patents. In 2024, Shaanxi Automobile was selected as a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory. Level 2+ autonomous driving heavy trucks have achieved mass production, and Level 4 autonomous driving has achieved batch commercial operations in multiple scenarios, making the brand a pioneer in the industry's intelligent driving field.

High-quality Development and Global Leaping Period (2025 to Present)

In 2025, Shaanxi Automobile Group's annual sales are expected to reach 195,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 16.7%. Among them, Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle's domestic civil product sales are expected to reach 88,000 units, a significant year-on-year increase of 60%, with orders exceeding 94,000 units. In April of the same year, Weichai's subsidiary Shaanxi Heavy Vehicle released the fully autonomous new energy "Zhihui" brand, gathering the "Weichai New Energy Battery + Fast Gear AMT Transmission + Hande Electric Drive Axle" Golden Powertrain, achieving a breakthrough in the full-stack independent R&D new energy brand strategy. In April 2026, Shaanxi Automobile jointly established the SHACMAN Heavy Duty Truck New Energy Global Ecosystem Alliance with industry leaders such as Weichai Power, Fast Gear, Hande Axle, and CATL, and simultaneously released the new energy 3.0 "Extreme Smart Cloud Bridge" series products, signing 1,300 units of orders on site.

In terms of intelligence, continuous investment is being made in the R&D of next-generation platforms such as HD2.0. L4 autonomous driving demonstration operations have already been achieved in enclosed parks, with the goal of achieving full commercialization of intelligent driving.

Overseas Goals Upgraded Again: The overseas market is a key blue ocean for SHACMAN's incremental growth. With the X6000 obtaining EU WVTA certification and mass sales in European high-end markets, the brand is promoting export high-endization through its "One Country, One Vehicle" strategy. The 2030 overseas sales proportion target will be further increased, building a globally leading commercial vehicle export layout supported by 17 overseas KD factories.

Marketing Model Transformation: SHACMAN resolutely abandons low-quality, low-price competition, guiding its channels to shift from "selling vehicles" to "selling value and selling solutions." Through the "Rong e Xing" digital intelligence marketing service platform and the CIMC·SHACMAN integrated model (currently iterated to version 4.0), the brand is innovating after-market services, transforming into a "Full Value Brand Service Provider," and building one-stop full-lifecycle user solutions.

From Maili Xigou in 1968 to a world-class heavy truck enterprise operating in over 150 countries and regions in 2026, Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck has completed a remarkable transformation over nearly half a century. Looking to the future, this Chinese heavy truck backbone, founded for military purposes, is moving with a firm posture of "metamorphosis from scale to value," making a full-speed advance toward the strategic goal of becoming a world-class commercial vehicle enterprise.
