Rolls-Royce Spectre

2026-10-08 15:30:00

Model Overview

The Rolls-Royce Spectre is the marque's first mass-produced all-electric model, positioned as an ultra-luxury, fully electric two-door, four-seater super coupé. Making its global debut in October 2022 and officially launched in 2023, the Spectre marked Rolls-Royce's definitive entry into the era of electrification. As of June 2026, the primary model on sale is the 2026 Spectre Series II, available in both standard and Black Badge high-performance variants. On 2 June 2026, Rolls-Royce officially unveiled the Spectre Series II in Beijing. Starting prices stand at USD 398,000 in the US market (down 5.7%), GBP 333,000 in the UK (down 8.7%), and EUR 395,000 in Germany (a drop of over 10%). In China, the official retail price range for the Spectre Series II is RM5,150,000 to RM5,450,000. Positioned as an all-electric flagship coupé bridging the gap between Ghost and Phantom, the Spectre spearheads the marque's transition toward full electrification.

Design Language

The Spectre retains Rolls-Royce's signature design cues, including the wide Pantheon grille and a redesigned, aero-optimised Spirit of Ecstasy figurine. A sweeping fastback roofline and crisp waistline accentuate its athletic stance while preserving regal proportions. In terms of exterior dimensions, it measures 5,453 mm in length, 2,080 mm in width, and 1,559 mm in height, with a 3,210 mm wheelbase, a kerb weight of 2,975 kg, and an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd. Visual updates on the Series II are evolutionary, keeping the acclaimed fastback silhouette and split headlamp arrangement intact. It introduces a new "Ethereal Blue" solid paint finish, alongside fresh 23-inch forged alloy wheels offered in fully polished or part-polished finishes. The Black Badge variant receives an "Iced Black" exterior package, replacing chrome accents across the grille, mascot, and door handles with dark matte elements to dial up the sporting drama. Inside, Bespoke personalisation is comprehensively expanded for the Series II, debuting a new "Duality Twill" bamboo-fibre fabric meticulously crafted with 2.6 million stitches across 25 hours of hand sewing in four colourways. The Illuminated Fascia across the dashboard features 8,108 individual light points forming dynamic, flowing motifs, while the seats offer optional laser-perforated leather incorporating 78,138 micro-perforations that depict an abstract cloud pattern.

Power and Performance

The Spectre Series II receives significant powertrain upgrades. The standard variant features a front and rear dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering a combined maximum output of 442 kW (approx. 593 hp) and 1,015 Nm of torque. The high-performance Black Badge can output up to 500 kW (approx. 671 hp) in Infinity Mode, while peak torque temporarily climbs to 1,100 Nm in Spirited Mode. The 0–100 km/h sprint for the Black Badge is trimmed to 4.3 seconds. Under the floor, the Series II upgrades to BMW Group's in-house sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells, boosting pack capacity to 112.4 kWh. The CLTC-rated range extends to 718 km, while WLTP figures range between 582 and 628 km for the standard model, and 578 to 629 km for the Black Badge. Charging times are cut by 14% compared to its predecessor, requiring approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes for a 0–100% state of charge via a 22 kW AC wallbox. The vehicle continues to run on a 400V electrical architecture.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the Spectre is built on Rolls-Royce's bespoke all-aluminium "Architecture of Luxury", equipped with adaptive air suspension and Satellite Aided Transmission to predict road conditions and proactively adjust damper settings. The Series II upgrades the suspension from single-chamber to dual-chamber air springs. The chassis setup pairs a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension arrangement with a dual-motor electric AWD drivetrain. Steering is handled by an Electric Power Steering system, with chassis tuning dedicated to delivering the marque's signature "Magic Carpet Ride"—serene, plush, and supremely composed. The Black Badge variant adopts sharper powertrain and suspension calibrations to deliver a more immediate, responsive driving feel.

Cabin and Amenities

The Spectre adopts a grand touring two-door, four-seater cabin layout. The interior stays true to Rolls-Royce's obsessive craftsmanship, retaining tactile physical switchgear alongside decadent materials. It features the latest SPIRIT digital architecture, fully integrating Whispers connected services. Starlight Doors incorporate 4,796 fibre-optic light points to create an immersive night-sky effect. The dashboard gains a refreshed illuminated panel and timepiece—the new analogue clock takes design inspiration from aviation instrumentation, displayed alongside the Spirit of Ecstasy inside the glass-encased Gallery. High-gloss Figured Walnut veneer crafted from reclaimed fruitwood and eucalyptus fibres is finished with multiple coats of glass-powder-infused lacquer, giving the cabin striking depth and texture. Audio duties are handled by an in-house Bespoke sound system. The Spectre ranks second only to the Phantom in the volume of Bespoke bespoke commissions across the Rolls-Royce portfolio.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the Spectre comes comprehensively equipped with a full array of airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Its intelligent driver assistance suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and other active safety technologies. A 360-degree surround-view camera and automated parking assistance further enhance everyday driving ease. The car supports 5G connectivity alongside comprehensive over-the-air connected car services. US-spec models have transitioned to the NACS charging inlet, granting direct access to the Tesla Supercharger network for greater charging convenience.

Market Performance and Reception

Following its 2022 introduction, the Spectre quickly became a top-selling model for Rolls-Royce, overtaking the Ghost and Phantom in volume and trailing only the Cullinan SUV. In 2024, global deliveries of the Spectre reached 1,890 units. However, global sales eased to 1,002 units in 2025, representing a sharp 47% year-on-year drop. In the Chinese market, only 107 units were sold between November 2023 and January 2025. By 2025, the Spectre's share of total Rolls-Royce sales slipped from 33% to 17.7%. Consequently, in March 2026, Rolls-Royce walked back its original target of going fully electric by 2030, confirming that its iconic V12 petrol engine will remain in production past 2035 as the marque shifts to a dual-track strategy combining ICE and EV offerings. The Spectre primarily rivals traditional high-end grand tourers such as the Bentley Continental GT and Ferrari Roma, while continuing to hold a unique trailblazing position in the ultra-luxury all-electric grand tourer space. Notably, Spectre customers own an average of seven vehicles in their garage yet clock an average annual mileage of 6,500 km in the Spectre—far surpassing other two-door Rolls-Royce models and cementing its daily usability as a true "driver's Rolls-Royce".
