Rolfhartge

2026-06-12 18:20:02

Rolfhartge is an official authorized high-end luxury modification brand of Mercedes-Benz originating from Germany, founded by creator Mr. Rolf Hartge in 2012 under his own name. The brand focuses on creating "mobile works of art" that combine unique aesthetics and sporty character, through refined exterior optimization, aerodynamic kits, and personalized customization upgrades based on Mercedes-Benz factory models. As a modification brand on par with AMG, Brabus, and Carlsson, although Rolfhartge does not have as long a history as Mercedes-Benz itself, it has carved out a unique position in the high-end automotive modification niche market thanks to its distinctive modification philosophy and pure German DNA. Rolfhartge primarily serves wealthy elite clients who pursue extreme individuality and a luxury experience.

Development History

Rolfhartge's development history is closely linked to the legendary career of founder Rolf Hartge. He has been a well-known figure in the global automotive circle for over 40 years, with profound insights into automotive technology and design. Before devoting himself to Mercedes-Benz modification, he also worked as a BMW dealer and modifier. In 1989, Rolf Hartge and his brother Andreas Hartge co-founded the renowned Mercedes-Benz authorized modification brand—Carlsson, pouring their racing passion into every product during its more than 20-year development history.

In 2007, following the tragic accidental death of his older brother, Rolf Hartge decided to sell the Carlsson brand. Although he left this well-known brand, his passion for Mercedes-Benz modification remained unchanged. Based on his deep emotional connection and long-term cooperation with the Daimler Group, in 2012, the German Mercedes-Benz factory specially invited Rolf Hartge to come out of retirement to create a new official modification brand under his own name—Rolfhartge. Under this brand, Rolfhartge focuses on high-end luxury complete vehicle services and has launched a series of custom works at various exhibitions.

During its development, Rolfhartge keenly identified the consumption potential of emerging markets such as China. With China's rapid economic growth and the evolution of consumption patterns, it became clear that high-end modification brands full of personality have broad market prospects. Kangshun Group, based on its extensive experience in operating ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Ferrari, successfully signed a contract with Rolfhartge to become its general agent for the Southern China region, fully responsible for brand promotion, network development, sales, and after-sales services, laying an important foundation for Rolfhartge's development in China. In 2022, Rolfhartge's Southern China region operation was deployed in Shenzhen, introducing new funding sources and market promotion systems. In September 2023, the first authorized flagship store in Guangzhou settled in Baiyun District, and the first batch of orders was signed on the opening day. Entering 2025, the brand continues to continuously improve and release new models.

Product Portfolio

As a niche modification firm focusing on high-end customization, Rolfhartge's product line is not large, adopting a "less but better" strategy, focusing on deep customization for Mercedes-Benz's high-end models. Its main products include the GR500 series based on the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the MR500 series based on the Maybach S450.

GR500 / GR500 C Series: This is Rolfhartge's representative product line, modified based on the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 (GR500) and the GLE 400 Coupe SUV (GR500 C). The exterior was carefully refined, replacing the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star logo with a badge printed with the "Rolfhartge" wordmark, and equipped with a set of more sporty five-spoke wheels and silver spoiler guards. The most eye-catching design element is the biomimetic "shark fin" vertical grille on the side air intakes, which provides better ventilation and heat dissipation for the front brake system. A waistline running from the front of the car to the rear was added to the side of the body, adding a sharp visual impact. The interior largely retains the original design of the GLE 400, with black as the dominant color, while black wood trim and a three-spoke steering wheel create a sporty yet luxurious atmosphere. The vehicle is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

MR500 Series: This is another core product of the Rolfhartge brand, based on the Maybach S450 factory customization. As the top luxury brand under Mercedes-Benz, Maybach itself already possesses excellent comfort and luxury features. Rolfhartge further explores its personalized potential on this basis, with interior material selection and functional configuration centering on the client's extreme needs. In terms of power, the MR500 is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing a maximum power of 333 horsepower. This model primarily focuses on the demands of top tycoons for extreme individuality and a luxury experience, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 1.59 million RMB.

Other Custom Series: As an officially certified modification partner of Mercedes-Benz, Rolfhartge can also provide car enthusiasts with hundreds of personalized customization schemes and services based on the G500, GLS, S-Class, and Maybach S-Class models.

Market Performance

Rolfhartge has a low profile in mainstream public market sales, belonging to the extremely niche ultra-luxury modification space. Almost no monthly or annual sales data for the brand in China can be found in public channels. Its primary market is concentrated in high-end consumer circles, operated through custom sales models via specific dealer networks. For example, the Rolfhartge GR500 is priced in the range of 925,000 to 975,000 RMB in China. Thanks to the strong channel network of strategic partners such as Kangshun Group and the word-of-mouth influence within the ultra-luxury car market community, Rolfhartge has established a presence among its target customer groups. Kangshun Group efficiently screened and maintained a precise customer base for Rolfhartge based on its years of experience operating ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Ferrari.

Core Technology

Rolfhartge's core technology does not lie in the radical re-engineering of the factory powertrain, but rather in the deep integration of Germany's top-tier industrial design and fine craftsmanship with original Mercedes-Benz models.

Exterior Design and Aerodynamic Optimization: This is the brand's core differentiator. Unlike AMG, which focuses more on engine performance modification, Rolfhartge is more adept at refining exterior details. The brand draws extensively on the aesthetic and aerodynamic experience from its racing background, carefully designing custom high-performance body kits. Its signature "shark gill" style air intake grille and aerodynamic bumper design not only improve brake system cooling but also provide increased downforce. The 21-inch lightweight wheels balance aesthetic simplicity with reduced unsprung mass. In terms of chassis technology, Rolfhartge inherits the refined tuning from Carlsson's racing foundation, adopting a front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension design, while retaining and optimizing the all-wheel drive system and DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic driving modes, offering Sport, Comfort, Individual, Snow, and other settings.

Powertrain System: The brand does not perform significant performance re-tuning on the engine but instead adopts the original factory's high-specification powertrain layout. For example, both the GR500 and MR500 are equipped with Mercedes-Benz's original 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which uses aluminum alloy cylinder heads and block for lightweighting, and applies direct injection and twin-turbo technology, producing a maximum power of 333 horsepower and a peak torque of 480 N·m. It is paired with Mercedes-Benz's own 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission. Adopting this strategy helps reduce modification costs and failure rates while ensuring the overall vehicle's driving smoothness and durability.

Global Presence

As a pure German engineering modification brand, Rolfhartge's headquarters and R&D center are both located in Germany, while its global strategy places significant emphasis on the Chinese market. In the European local market, Rolfhartge maintains its brand foundation and high-end service relationships. In the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the Chinese market, Rolfhartge's business is more active and in-depth. The core strategy of its overseas expansion is to fully launch Rolfhartge's brand promotion, network development, sales, and after-sales services through cooperation with its China regional general agent. Through the operation of flagship stores, Rolfhartge is gradually consolidating its localization strategy based on Chinese consumers' enthusiasm for its GLE, GLS, and other large-displacement modified models. Customer-customized orders are sent directly to the headquarters in Germany, where the original factory engineering team completes the delivery.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Rolfhartge will continue to deeply cultivate the ultra-luxury modification field, insisting on playing the role of a "mobile works of art" manufacturer within the Mercedes-Benz high-end customization ecosystem. The brand will continuously expand its customized product lines based on Mercedes-Benz GLS, next-generation Maybach, S-Class, and other larger-displacement technology platforms, while adhering to pure German craftsmanship and racing DNA. Facing the global automotive industry's transformation toward electrification and intelligence, how Rolfhartge integrates future new electrification and intelligent driving technologies into its high-end customization service system while maintaining its modification identity is the core challenge for its next stage of development. In the future, as the number of high-net-worth individuals in China and the Asia-Pacific region continues to rise, Rolfhartge is expected to further consolidate its position as one of the most representative brands in the Mercedes-Benz official modification ecosystem, creating unique, one-of-a-kind sedans for top car enthusiasts around the world.
