Remote anti-theft is a security system that leverages modern telecommunications and networking technologies, allowing vehicle owners to remotely monitor vehicle status, receive instant alerts upon unauthorised intrusion, and execute countermeasures. It is akin to equipping the vehicle with long-range "all-seeing eyes" and remotely operated "invisible hands".
A remote anti-theft system typically operates through the synergy of three core components: sensors, a control centre, and a communication module:
Monitoring and Sensing: When the vehicle is armed, sensors positioned across the vehicle body (such as vibration sensors, interior infrared sensors, and door lock status sensors) continuously monitor for anomalies. If unauthorised door opening, window breakage, vehicle impact, or cabin movement is detected, an alert signal is immediately transmitted to the control centre.
Instant Alert: Upon receiving the signal, the control centre (such as the Body Control Module (BCM) or microprocessor) instantly alerts the owner via SMS, mobile app push notifications, or automated phone calls over 4G/5G networks or GSM modules. Earlier systems also featured one-touch emergency dialling via built-in car phones.
Remote Countermeasures: Once alerted, the owner can issue commands via a smartphone app to execute remote engine immobilisation, fuel supply cut-off, or electrical circuit cut-off, preventing the vehicle from being started and driven away. Owners can even deter thieves via remote voice broadcasting. High-end systems also support remote in-cabin audio monitoring or activating around-view cameras to record and review live footage.
Unlimited-Range Alerting: Relies on GSM cellular networks to transmit alarm signals nationwide or even globally, eliminating the range limitations of conventional car alarms.
Anti-Hacking Multi-Authentication: Employs rolling code technology and secure authentication algorithms to prevent remote key signals from being cloned or intercepted, ensuring the safe execution of remote commands.
Anti-Tamper Hardware Design: Equipped with power-cut alarm capability, immediately triggering an alert even if the power supply to the main anti-theft unit is severed.
Real-Time Alerts: Instantly notifies the owner via mobile app, SMS, or phone call in the event of an unauthorised intrusion.
Remote Vehicle Control: Remotely immobilises the engine and cuts off the fuel supply via a smartphone app, forcing the vehicle to shut down.
Status Checks: Allows owners to check anytime via smartphone whether doors, the engine, and other systems are locked and secured.
Auxiliary Features: Includes remote in-cabin audio monitoring, remote voice deterrence to ward off intruders, and automatic hazard light flashing with horn sounding during an alarm.
