2026-06-04 16:10:00

Qiling Automobile is a Chinese independent commercial vehicle brand, jointly invested and created by Jiangling Group and Jiangxi Dayang Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. It was initially known as "Jiangling Light Vehicle Co., Ltd." and was officially integrated into the Dayang Automobile commercial vehicle portfolio in 2019, producing and selling under the Qiling brand logo. The brand headquarters is located in Fuzhou, Jiangxi. The production base integrates stamping, welding, painting, and assembly processes, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 complete vehicles. Qiling Automobile focuses on urban and rural logistics as well as industrial and agricultural production transport tools. Its main products cover two major sectors: Pickup (T Series) and Light Truck (H Series). The brand once established itself in the Chinese market with a full spectrum of economy pickups.

Development History

The starting point of the Qiling brand is the Jiangling Light Vehicle put into production in Fuzhou, Jiangxi in 2013, the first Qiling T5 Pickup rolled off the production line officially on October 6 of that year, the brand completed the pioneering start from 0 to 1. 2015 to 2016 saw rapid growth, Qiling T7 Pickup was mass-launched to the market, Qiling H300 Light Truck entered the commercial vehicle sector, annual sales climbed into the top 10 domestic pickup sales that year. Due to slow expansion and subsequent product launch slowdown, production and sales scale declined year by year after 2018. In 2018, Jiangling Light Vehicle was restructured into Jiangxi Dayang Automobile Co., Ltd., Qiling brand merged into Dayang Automobile's portfolio, becoming the main commercial vehicle segment under Dayang. In the equity structure, Dayang Automobile holds 67%, Jiangling Group holds 19%, local state-owned assets also hold some shares. Since then, the brand development focus gradually shifted from new product R&D to stock maintenance, e-commerce platforms show that as of 2026, all models on sale have been zeroed out, Qiling trademark and production qualifications although still under the name of "Jiangxi Dayang Automobile Co., Ltd.", the possibility of launching new model mass production later is not high.

Product Portfolio

Qiling's product layout is roughly divided into two categories. The T prefix denotes the Pickup series, with a total of five sub-models launched. The Qiling T5 (including New T5) is the earliest mass-produced sub-brand, focusing on the entry-level market for business and home use. It is available in standard wheelbase and long wheelbase double cab configurations, with prices ranging from approximately 65,000 to 100,000 RMB. The Qiling T7 is the main pickup product, launched in 2015, with vehicle prices ranging from about 70,000 to 120,000 RMB. The standard box and long box wheelbases are 3,025 mm and 3,380 mm, respectively. During the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, the premium Qiling T15 was launched. There is also the Qiling T100 pickup, which focuses on extreme tool attributes. Its interior leans toward sedan design language, with prices locked in the low threshold range of 50,000 to 70,000 RMB. The H prefix denotes the Light Truck series. The Qiling H300 was launched in 2018, equipped with a Jiangxi Isuzu National Phase V diesel engine and a Getrag transmission, focusing on short-haul logistics, refrigeration, and self-use transport. In terms of new energy, the brand produces the EV300 pure electric box light truck (with a CLTC range of approximately 270 to 297 km) and some new special purpose vehicle chassis. The brand also once planned a Qiling T3 truck series, as well as multiple product directions such as Qiling brand bus applications, but these did not truly achieve scaled mass production.

Market Performance

The Qiling brand's sales peak period was roughly around 2014 to 2015. During the initial launch period, annual sales once squeezed into the top 10 domestic pickup sales rankings, building a certain reputation among individual private business owners and the rural market. As competition intensified and various automakers rapidly iterated their products, market heat and distribution channels narrowed significantly. Since 2024, sales data is no longer disclosed to the public. As of the time of writing, Qiling's full series of models are in a state of halted sales and ceased production.

Core Technology

Qiling's technical capability overall comes from its two major partners, JMC and Isuzu, primarily building product characteristics around mature and durable diesel power combined with a body-on-frame off-road chassis. Traditional diesel models are equipped with the Jiangxi Isuzu JE493 Series 2.8T high-pressure common rail engine, which delivers a maximum power of 78 kW (106 hp) and a maximum torque of 225 N·m, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Its reliability has been verified by years of market testing. The later Qiling T7 Plus replaced this with a Mianyang Power D20B diesel engine with a displacement of 2.0L, providing 93 kW of power, and can also be paired with the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi 2.0T 4K21D4T turbocharged petrol engine. Chassis technology uses a body-on-frame ladder frame structure, with double wishbone independent suspension for the front wheels and a leaf spring solid axle for the rear axle, retaining the classic Toyota Hilux technology prototype and balancing load capacity with passability. In terms of electrification, the Qiling EV300 and other models were once equipped with a Gotion High-Tech lithium iron phosphate battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak power of 120 kW.

Global Presence

Qiling Automobile did not establish independent overseas branches or export business plans. Its products mainly participated in Dayang Automobile's overall export channel. Dayang Automobile's two major intelligent manufacturing bases, built in Changzhou and Fuzhou, once maintained multi-variety flexible co-line production methods, but overall export volume was extremely low, and the brand never published scaled export data. Currently, all overseas brand activities are approaching zero.

Future Outlook

According to known existing production capacity and production-sales data, as of 2026, the Qiling brand is in a de facto production suspension status. Relying on Jiangling Group's long-term cooperative relationship, Qiling brand's production qualifications, land, factories, and other assets are still reflected in Jiangxi Dayang Automobile Co., Ltd.'s valuation system. As China's automobile market further concentrates on new energy and high-end segments, if the Qiling brand wants to regain market share, it needs to undergo a comprehensive upgrade in new power systems, digital marketing channels, and intelligent vehicle models. However, as things currently stand, this probability is extremely low. Qiling is very likely to become one of the exiting brands in the economic commercial vehicle market reshuffle process.
