Porsche Cayenne Electric

2026-09-25 03:20:00

The Porsche Cayenne Electric is the brand's first all-electric mid-to-large luxury SUV built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) dedicated EV platform, representing the fourth generation of the Cayenne nameplate. The model made its initial global appearance in November 2025 before hosting its official global premiere at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on 24 April 2026. At launch, the line-up is offered in two variants: the Cayenne Electric and the Cayenne Turbo Electric. In June 2026, Porsche further introduced the mid-tier Cayenne S Electric, positioned between the two. The Cayenne Electric will be sold alongside ICE and hybrid iterations of the Cayenne, going up against key luxury all-electric SUV rivals such as the BMW iX and Lotus ELETRE.

Design Language

Visually, the Cayenne Electric retains Porsche's signature design DNA whilst being thoroughly re-engineered around a dedicated electric platform. The front fascia features a closed-off grille design, complemented by active vertical louvres below that dynamically modulate airflow between thermal cooling and aerodynamic efficiency. The headlamps feature an irregular geometric profile, flanked by large functional air intakes on the front bumper. Along the sides, it retains the iconic Cayenne SUV silhouette, with the wheelbase stretched by 130 mm over the current petrol-powered model to 3,023 mm. Overall vehicle dimensions stand at 4,985 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,674 mm in height. Around the rear, there is a full-width LED light bar paired with an illuminated "PORSCHE" script, alongside semi-integrated retractable air deflectors on both sides of the rear bumper that deploy automatically within designated speed brackets to optimise aero efficiency. The overall drag coefficient is rated at an impressive 0.25 Cd. Inside, the Cayenne Electric introduces a redesigned digital cockpit headlined by a 14.25-inch OLED fully digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke sports steering wheel. The centre stack houses a 12.25-inch curved "Flow Display" touchscreen infotainment unit, with an optional 14.9-inch front passenger display available. Chinese-spec models receive a Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system as standard.

Powertrain and Performance

The Cayenne Electric range comes standard with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture.

Base Electric Variant: Dual motors deliver a standard maximum output of 300 kW (408 PS), temporarily boosting to 325 kW (442 PS) when Launch Control is engaged. The 0-100 km/h century sprint is completed in 4.8 seconds, onwards to a top speed of 230 km/h.

S Electric: Delivers a total system output of 400 kW (544 PS), which peaks at 490 kW (666 PS) with Launch Control activated.

Turbo Electric: Produces a standard combined output of 630 kW (857 PS), unleashing a massive 850 kW (1,156 PS) and 1,500 Nm of peak torque under Launch Control. It despatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.5 seconds, hitting 0-200 km/h in 7.4 seconds. This flagship variant also comes with a "Push-to-Pass" feature, unlocking an extra 130 kW (176 PS) of on-demand power for 10 seconds. The entire range is powered by a 113 kWh (108 kWh usable) dual-side cooled battery pack. On the WLTP cycle, the Electric variant delivers a range of 642 km, while the Turbo variant returns 623 km; under CLTC ratings, the Turbo variant achieves 673 km, and the Turbo Coupé clocks in at 687 km. The 800V architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 400 kW, juicing the battery from 10% to 80% in just 16 minutes. Energy recuperation capability reaches up to 600 kW.

Chassis and Handling

The Cayenne Electric is fitted as standard with dual-chamber, dual-valve air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) across the range. Rear-axle steering is also standard across all variants, offering up to 5 degrees of rear steering angle. The SUV is equipped with rear torque vectoring and an electronic rear limited-slip differential. Chinese-market variants feature the Porsche Active Ride fully active suspension system as standard. The Turbo variant benefits from direct oil cooling for the rear axle motor, a technology derived from Porsche's Formula E motorsport programme. Braking hardware on the Turbo includes 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped around high-performance Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). The vehicle boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.

Cabin and Equipment

The Cayenne Electric's interior comes standard with a 14.25-inch OLED fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.25-inch curved central touchscreen. Buyers can opt for an expansive 87-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) and a 14.9-inch front passenger entertainment screen. The infotainment setup runs localized AutoNavi navigation and a tailored third-party app ecosystem. Chinese-spec units come equipped as standard with a Burmester premium 3D surround sound system and Porsche Digital Key. The front seats feature power adjustment, while rear passengers enjoy significantly more generous legroom courtesy of the 130 mm wheelbase extension. Boot capacity ranges from 781 to 1,588 litres, supplemented by a 90-litre front trunk (frunk). A choice of 13 exterior paint finishes, 9 alloy wheel designs, and 12 interior themes are available.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Cayenne Electric comes comprehensively equipped with both active and passive safety systems. Front and rear parking sensors alongside a reverse camera are standard across the board. The active safety suite features Porsche's latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), comprising Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Blind Spot Monitoring. On the passive safety front, the SUV is fitted with a multi-airbag system and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The AR head-up display projects real-time navigation cues, lane markings, and driving telemetry directly into the driver's forward field of view. Notably, the regenerative braking system is capable of handling approximately 97% of everyday deceleration scenarios.

Market Reception and Performance

Marking the fourth generation of the Cayenne lineage, the Cayenne Electric represents a critical milestone in Porsche's comprehensive electrification roadmap. In international markets, the Electric variant is priced starting from USD 109,000 to USD 111,350, while the Turbo Electric kicks off from USD 163,000 to USD 165,350. For the Chinese market, starting prices announced at the April 2026 Beijing Auto Show stand at RM1,118,000 for the Cayenne Turbo EV and RM1,158,000 for the Cayenne Turbo Coupé EV. The Cayenne Electric has seen strong initial reception in the US, with Porsche's US web portal logging over 110,000 online vehicle configurations within the first four days of launch, alongside 10,500 prospective buyers registering their intent to purchase. Since its initial debut in 2002, the Cayenne has consistently remained a high-demand volume driver in the US market. As the most iconic SUV in Porsche's storied history, the Cayenne Electric establishes a new high-water mark in the ultra-luxury EV SUV segment, leveraging its PPE dedicated platform, 800V high-voltage architecture, blistering 1,156 PS peak performance, and an electric driving range exceeding 700 km.
