Model Overview

The Peugeot e-2008 is the first all-electric B-segment SUV introduced in 2020 by French marque Peugeot under the Stellantis Group, serving as the electrified iteration of the 2008 model line. Built on Peugeot's CMP/e-CMP multi-energy modular platform, the crossover centres on distinctive French styling and urban usability. In the Chinese market, the Dongfeng Peugeot e-2008 officially debuted in May 2020 with two variants, priced from RM166,000 to RM188,000 post-subsidy. In 2024, Peugeot rolled out a mid-life facelift for the e-2008, bringing powertrain and battery upgrades that raised its WLTP electric range to 406 km. The model has since been discontinued in China, where it primarily competed against joint-venture all-electric B-segment rivals like the Honda e:NS1 and Buick Velite 7.
Design Language
The 2024 e-2008 adopts Peugeot's latest corporate design identity. Up front, it sports a frameless parametric grille with a gradient effect, flanked by the signature 'three-claw' LED daytime running lights that extend down into the bumper for unmistakable road presence. The revised headlamp clusters are distinctly separated from the DRLs, delivering a sharper, layered front profile. Along the sides, sharp, rising character lines, a dual-tone exterior finish, and aero-optimised alloy wheels accentuate its athletic stance. The rear features redesigned dual-horizontal LED taillights that replace the previous vertical light bars, lending the crossover a lower, wider visual stance. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,312 mm long, 1,785 mm wide, and 1,545 mm tall (2020 model figures), with a 2,612 mm wheelbase, adhering to standard B-segment SUV proportions.
Inside, the e-2008 is fitted with Peugeot's hallmark i-Cockpit® 3D cabin. The 2024 model comes standard with a 10-inch floating central touchscreen across all variants (up from 7 inches), while higher-spec trims feature a 10-inch fully digital instrument cluster with 3D projection graphics. The centre console adopts a minimalist gear selector toggle in place of the outgoing push-pull electronic gear lever, delivering an avant-garde, tech-forward cockpit while retaining a row of physical toggle switches for effortless operation.
Powertrain & Performance
The 2024 e-2008 benefits from a comprehensive overhaul of its electric drive system. Powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, output has been boosted to 115 kW (approx. 156 PS) and 260 Nm of torque. The battery pack capacity increases from 50 kWh to 54 kWh, delivering a WLTP combined range of 406 km. The vehicle supports 100 kW DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 20% to 80% in roughly 27 to 30 minutes. By comparison, the 2020 Chinese-market specification produced 120 kW (approx. 163 PS) with an NEDC-rated range of 360 km.
Chassis & Handling
Underpinned by Peugeot's CMP multi-energy platform, the e-2008 employs a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Ride and handling duties are handled by front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam setup. Typical for a B-segment crossover, this chassis tuning is geared towards urban ride comfort and agile handling. The steering setup features electric power steering with three selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport. An electronic parking brake with hill-start assist is also fitted as standard.
Cabin & Practicality
The e-2008 features a five-seater layout, offering a standard boot capacity of 345 litres (2020 model data), expandable via 60:40 split-folding rear seats for enhanced luggage flexibility.
In terms of comfort and convenience features, the 2024 model comes standard with the 10-inch central touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Range-topping trims add Alcantara upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The high-spec 2020 Chinese-market model featured a 10-inch infotainment display and a glasses-free 3D digital cluster with Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife support.
Safety & Driver Assistance
The e-2008 is equipped with a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite for active safety. Key features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with day/night pedestrian and vehicle detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring with extended detection range, Traffic Sign Recognition, Driver Attention Alert, as well as front and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera (upgraded to a 360-degree surround-view monitor on high-spec variants). Passive safety features front dual airbags, front side airbags, and front and rear curtain airbags as standard.
Market Performance & Review
Following its European debut, the Peugeot e-2008 carved out a respectable market share in the B-segment pure EV sector, driven by its chic design and continually improved driving range. In China, however, the Dongfeng Peugeot e-2008 met with a lukewarm reception. Its 360 km NEDC range was uncompetitive at launch in 2020, and its price tag of RM166,000 to RM188,000 lacked an edge against well-equipped domestic Chinese EV competitors, leading to prolonged sluggish sales and eventual discontinuation. Although the 2024 mid-life facelift bolstered its product appeal through sharper styling and a healthy 406 km WLTP range, the model's prospects in China remain uncertain with no local production plans on the horizon. In overseas markets, the e-2008 remains a characterful urban EV commuter, distinguished by its French design flair and engaging i-Cockpit cabin experience.
