Perodua Bezza

The Perodua Bezza is the first four-door sedan from Malaysia's second national carmaker (Perodua), positioned in the A-segment entry-level family sedan market. The model was officially launched in July 2016, developed on the Perodua Axia platform and essentially serving as the four-door sedan derivative of the Axia. The Bezza is Perodua's first model to be designed fully in-house, as well as the brand's first model to attain Malaysia's EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) certification. The model currently on sale is the facelifted version introduced in 2020, available in 4 variants with prices starting from RM34,580. Key rivals include the Proton Saga, among others.

Design Language

The Bezza's exterior styling incorporates design cues from several Japanese brands. Up front, it sports a hexagonal chrome front grille with trim strips extending into the headlamps for an integrated look. The G variant features a gloss black and silver grille, while the X and AV variants get a gloss black and chrome combination. Trapezoidal LED headlamps come standard across the range, with the X and AV variants further equipped with front fog lamps. The side profile carries clean character lines, complemented by standard two-tone side skirts and chrome door handles. At the rear, a full-width chrome garnish connects the LED combination taillights. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,150 mm long, 1,620 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,455 mm. The vehicle has a drag coefficient of 0.286. Following the 2020 facelift, sharper front and rear bumper designs were introduced alongside two new exterior colours: Garnet Red and Granite Grey. Inside, the cabin features a T-shaped dashboard layout, with higher-grade variants gaining piano black trim inserts. The 2020 update also brought an instrument cluster design akin to the Perodua Aruz, elevating perceived interior quality.

Powertrain Performance

The Bezza is offered with two naturally aspirated petrol engine options: a 1.0L and a 1.3L unit. The 1.0L 1KR-VE inline-three engine features VVT-i variable valve timing technology, outputting a maximum power of 67 hp (6,000 rpm) and peak torque of 91 N·m (4,400 rpm). Developed from the Axia's 1KR-DE engine, its compression ratio has been raised to 11.5:1. The 1.3L 1NR-VE inline-four engine comes with Dual VVT-i technology, producing a maximum power of 94 hp (6,000 rpm) and peak torque of 121 N·m (4,000 rpm). Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. Fuel economy is stellar—the 1.0G manual achieves up to 22.8 km/L, the 1.0G automatic records 21.3 km/L, and the 1.3 Advance delivers 22 km/L. The entire range complies with Euro 4 emission standards.

Chassis and Handling

The Bezza is built on the Perodua Axia platform and adopts a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. Suspension duties are handled by a front MacPherson strut independent setup and a rear torsion beam non-independent setup, a segment-standard configuration. The steering system is Electric Power Steering (EPS). Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and rear drums. In terms of kerb weight, the 1.0G manual weighs 865 kg, the 1.0G automatic is 880 kg, the 1.3 Premium X is 900 kg for the manual and 915 kg for the automatic, while the range-topping Advance variant tips the scales at 930 kg.

Cabin and Features

Cabin equipment varies noticeably across trim levels. The entry-level 1.0G comes fitted with a standard audio head unit with FM radio and USB connectivity; the mid-spec 1.3X adds Bluetooth connectivity; the range-topping 1.3AV is equipped with a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit supporting GPS navigation, a reverse camera, and Smart Link smartphone screen mirroring (Android only). Across the entire range, the rear seats feature 60:40 split-folding capability. The 1.3L variants come standard with Smart Key keyless entry and a Push Start button. Higher-spec variants gain semi-bucket leather seats. Convenience amenities include digital air conditioning, steering wheel audio controls, and rear USB charging ports. Boot space stands at a cavernous 508 L, leading the segment.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Bezza marked a significant safety breakthrough for the Perodua brand. The flagship 1.3AV variant earned a 5-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests, scoring 15.38 points for Adult Occupant Protection (out of 16 points) and 85% for Child Occupant Protection; other variants hold a 4-star rating. Standard safety kit across all variants includes ABS Anti-lock Braking System, EBD Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and dual front airbags. The 1.3L variants are additionally equipped with VSC Vehicle Stability Control, TRC Traction Control, and HSA Hill Start Assist. The top-tier AV variant comes equipped with the ASA 2.0 (Advanced Safety Assist) suite, encompassing Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB, operational speed increased to 80 km/h), Forward Collision Warning (FCW, operational speed up to 100 km/h), Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misoperation Control. Rear parking sensors are standard across the range, with the 1.3X and above variants adding front parking sensors.

Market Performance and Reception

Since making its debut in 2016, underpinned by its exceptional fuel economy, class-leading boot space, and accessible price point, the Perodua Bezza has rapidly emerged as one of Malaysia's best-selling passenger cars. In full-year 2025, the Bezza retained its crown as Malaysia's best-selling model with 100,488 units sold, surpassing the 100,000-unit milestone for the second consecutive year. In January 2026, the Bezza achieved a monthly sales figure of 8,431 units, ranking second nationwide for the month. As of July 2025, cumulative sales for the Bezza lineup approached 800,000 units. Acclaimed as one of Perodua's most fuel-efficient models ever, its EEV-certified status also underscores its outstanding credentials in energy efficiency and emissions reduction. As Perodua's maiden four-door sedan, the Bezza successfully elevated the cheap image historically associated with Malaysian national cars, and through its practical, economical, and dependable attributes, it forms Perodua's core product matrix in the entry-level market alongside the Axia and Myvi.
