PPF (Paint Protection Film, commonly known as clear bra) is a high-performance polymer thermoplastic polyurethane film widely utilized for the exterior protection of automotive paintwork. Unlike traditional waxing, paint sealants, or ceramic coatings—which primarily rely on thin chemical layers to deliver short-term gloss and mild hydrophobicity—PPF acts as a transparent, high-strength physical armour with exceptional mechanical toughness and impact resistance. Adhering seamlessly to the vehicle's original factory paintwork, it not only preserves a high-gloss finish all year round, but fundamentally creates a physical barrier that isolates the paint from mechanical damage, chemical corrosion, and UV-induced degradation.
Modern premium PPF is manufactured using a multi-layer composite process, primarily comprising four core functional layers:
Polymer Aliphatic TPU Base Layer (Aliphatic TPU Base Layer):
Serving as the structural backbone of the protective film, high-grade PPF utilizes thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material, specifically non-yellowing aliphatic TPU. This layer endows the film with superior tensile strength, physical durability, and elastic memory. When struck by stone chips, road debris, or light scratches, the TPU base layer absorbs and disperses external impact energy through its outstanding elongation, effectively shielding the original factory paint from damage.
Nano Self-Healing Topcoat and Functional Bottom Layer (Nano Self-Healing Topcoat and Functional Bottom Layer):
The topcoat is engineered with special shape-memory polymers that deliver thermal self-healing capabilities. When exposed to sunlight or warm water, minor surface blemishes such as swirl marks and wash marring self-level and disappear. Meanwhile, the bottom layer is coated with high-grade pressure-sensitive adhesive (such as imported Ashland adhesive), ensuring strong bonding during installation whilst guaranteeing clean removal in the future without adhesive residue or delamination of the OEM clear coat.
Strictly Prohibiting Long-Term Failure to Remove Substandard, Cheap, Recycled, or Non-Aliphatic PVC Films Suffering from Severe Yellowing and Cracking (Prohibiting Long-Term Failure to Remove Inferior, Recycled, or Non-Aliphatic PVC Films Suffering Severe Yellowing and Cracking):
Low-grade films or PVC-based wraps on the market degrade and yellow rapidly under harsh UV exposure. Worse, their aggressive adhesives can chemically react with the OEM paintwork, causing severe paint etching and adhesive migration. Vehicle owners are strongly advised against using cheap, poor-quality films. Once surface crazing or yellowing is detected, the film must be professionally removed immediately; otherwise, the film intended to protect the vehicle will ultimately destroy the underlying paint.
Strictly Prohibiting the Application of PPF or Aggressive Film Removal on Panels with Bodywork Defects or Substandard Respray Adhesion (e.g., Non-OEM Paint, Paint Runs, or Blistering) (Prohibiting Applying PPF on Repainted Surfaces with Poor Adhesion or Violently Tearing Off Film from Compromised Paint):
The pressure-sensitive adhesive on premium PPF provides immense bonding power. Installing PPF over non-factory paint, substandard resprays, or improperly prepped panels is strictly prohibited. During film repositioning, installation, or eventual removal, the strong adhesive pull can easily peel away large sections of compromised aftermarket clear coat, leading to substantial repair costs.
