PCauto (English: PCauto) is a leading automotive vertical online media portal in China, founded by Pacific Online Limited in July 2002 and headquartered in Guangzhou. PCauto is the first professional automotive website to be publicly listed in China, with its parent company, Pacific Online, listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in December 2007. Anchored by car pricing, professional reviews, and car care guides, its business covers new car news, buying guides, used car transactions, car accessories, and more, with a network of local sub-sites spanning over 240 cities nationwide.

Development History

PCauto officially went live on 31 July 2002, operated by Guangdong Pacific Internet Information Service Co., Ltd. Just a year post-launch, in August 2003, the platform clinched the title of "Top 100 Most Commercially Valuable Websites in China", standing as the sole automotive portal on the list at the time. In June 2004, PCauto was certified by Alexa.com as one of the Top 500 Websites Worldwide. In December 2007, parent company Pacific Online listed on the Main Board in Hong Kong, making PCauto the first domestic professional automotive portal to go public. In January 2014, Pacific Online was ranked among the top ten in Forbes magazine's Top 100 Chinese Up-and-Comers.

Core Business and Content Ecosystem

Guided by its strategic focus on being "youth-oriented, video-driven, and professional", PCauto has built a comprehensive content ecosystem encompassing news, test drives and reviews, buying guides, vehicle model databases, forums, and video content. The portal remains committed to original content, operating a dedicated vehicle testing centre staffed with rigorously selected test drivers and equipped with advanced international instrumentation to produce signature programmes such as "Che Lai Wu", "Dui Shi", "Let Me Test the Car for You", and "Off-Road Era".

Its vehicle pricing database system serves as PCauto's core competitive moat, spotlighting domestic and international models to aggregate end-to-end details, including car prices, specifications and equipment, model galleries, owner reviews, purchasing promotions, and dealership networks. In 2018, PCauto rolled out its sub-brand "GeekNEV", focusing on dedicated content for the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.

On the community front, the PCauto forum boasts over 3 million registered members, generating around 40,000 new postings daily. In 2016, the platform launched its creator portal "Pacific Account", bringing together automotive content creators and car enthusiasts to share motoring content.

In recent years, PCauto has accelerated its intelligent tech roadmap, signing a HarmonyOS ecosystem partnership with Huawei and joining Baidu's ERNIE Bot ecosystem. The platform continues to roll out AI-driven industry solutions, integrating core content, products, and services to position the brand as an authoritative expert in the new energy vehicle space.

Financial Performance

PCauto represents the primary revenue driver for parent company Pacific Online (Stock Code: 00543.HK). For the full year of 2025, Pacific Online recorded total revenue of RMB 647,000,000, with PCauto contributing RMB 554,000,000, accounting for 85.6% of group revenue. In the first half of 2025, PCauto posted revenue of RMB 224,000,000, accounting for 82.1% of the group's total turnover.

Corporate Governance

PCauto operates under Pacific Online Limited. Group founder Lam Wai Yan serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, having previously served as Vice President and Director at Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. between 1979 and 1989. Ho Kam Wah serves as Executive Director overseeing strategic planning, while Zhang Congmin serves as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Business Expansion and Challenges

PCauto has actively expanded its online-to-offline integrated marketing and content-led advertising models to navigate the industry-wide downturn in traditional display banner ads. Nonetheless, the platform also faces regulatory challenges—in January 2026, authorities named PCauto in the third batch of case disclosures under the automotive industry online rectification campaign, penalising the portal in accordance with laws and regulations over non-compliant vehicle testing projects.
