Sichuan Nanjun Automobile Group Co., Ltd. is an important commercial vehicle manufacturing enterprise in Western China, headquartered in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. The company's predecessor was the Neijiang District Tractor Station established in 1958, formally established through restructuring on August 28, 2002. A designated state commercial vehicle production enterprise, it is a core support for Ziyang City to build the "Western Vehicle City". The "Nanjun" branded freight vehicles are famous Sichuan products, and the "Nanjun" trademark is also recognized as a "Well-Known Trademark of China" and a "Famous Trademark of Sichuan Province". Focusing on vehicle manufacturing for nearly thirty years, to date, cumulative production and sales of Nanjun commercial vehicles have exceeded 800,000 units. Group total assets exceed 4 billion RMB, possessing a provincial enterprise technology center, with a manufacturing capacity of 150,000 trucks and 10,000 buses annually.
Nanjun Automobile's history traces back to the Neijiang Tractor Station founded in 1958; in 1971, the station merged with the Ziyang County Agricultural Machinery Vehicle Quality Assurance Production Workshop to establish the Ziyang County Agricultural Machinery Vehicle Production Factory. In 1991, the company officially entered the automobile manufacturing field and began producing agricultural three-wheeled vehicles. Starting with agricultural vehicles, Nanjun accelerated with dump trucks, and took off with commercial vehicles, achieving a strategic transformation from agricultural to commercial vehicles. In 2009, the company sold 74,000 trucks and buses throughout the year, with an annual output value reaching 6 billion RMB, ranking 12th in the national commercial vehicle industry in terms of production and sales scale, firmly holding the top spot in Sichuan Province's automotive industry. In 2010, Sichuan Nanjun Automobile Group Co., Ltd. was formally established, and production scale reached a historical peak of 81,000 units annually. In the same year, a joint venture agreement was signed with Hyundai Motor Company of Korea, actively exploring international cooperation.
Nanjun Automobile's product line covers multiple categories including light trucks, medium trucks, micro trucks, dump trucks, special vehicles, and new energy commercial vehicles. In the traditional energy field, product series spectrums such as Rujie, Ruishuai, Rubao, Ruiyi, and Ruisheng have been formed. Since beginning R&D on new energy commercial vehicles in 2016, Nanjun has cumulatively launched over 40 new energy announcement models, covering pure electric micro trucks, light trucks, dump trucks, and range-extended trucks, forming a relatively complete new energy product matrix.
However, after experiencing the golden development period around 2010, Nanjun Automobile's market scale has receded. According to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers data, in 2025, Nanjun Automobile's annual car production was 3,900 units, a year-on-year decline of 12.1%; sales were 3,800 units, a year-on-year decline of 23.65%. The enterprise scale has declined significantly compared to the peak period (annual production of 74,000 units).
In the traditional power field, Nanjun constructed a powertrain system of "Yuchai/Yunchai Diesel Engine + Fast Gear Transmission", and continuously optimized and upgraded the chassis based on 30 years of vehicle manufacturing experience, developing technologies such as chassis without subframe and ultra-low center of gravity to improve driving stability. In the new energy field, Nanjun has gradually mastered the core technology of vehicle control and has jointly developed 4.5-ton hydrogen fuel cell refrigerated trucks with partners in a forward-looking manner, achieving breakthroughs in key technologies such as vehicle control, fault management, and hydrogen stack power output control. Among them, the hydrogen consumption indicator of hydrogen fuel models has maintained a relatively high level. Regarding new energy three-electric systems, Nanjun's pure electric products mainly adopt CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries, paired with self-developed electric drive systems, possessing strong adaptability in scenarios such as city distribution logistics and low-space operations.
The overseas market is an important expansion direction for Nanjun Automobile; products are sold to 13 countries and regions including Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America, and have been exported to Vietnam, Russia, etc. In October 2023, Nanjun Automobile signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Russia Smart Automobile Company, selecting 5 commercial vehicle products to initiate cooperation. Earlier, Nanjun's low-speed agricultural transport vehicles were successfully exported to Giang Province, Vietnam, accumulating a good reputation among users in the Southeast Asian market.
In September 2024, Nanjun Automobile applied for bankruptcy reorganization with the court due to severe funding shortages, but the court believed the enterprise still possessed reorganization value, and the brand did not exit the commercial vehicle track. At the same time, Nanjun's latest progress in the hydrogen fuel cell field in April 2026 also indicates that its technical exploration is still ongoing. According to previous plans, Nanjun will promote the dual drive of electrification and internationalization in the future, increase the development intensity of new energy products such as pure electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel, and strengthen autonomous control of key technologies and core resources.
