Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG

2026-09-26 22:00:02

Model Overview

The Mercedes-AMG C-Class is a compact executive performance saloon in the AMG high-performance stable, built upon the standard Mercedes-Benz C-Class saloon and independently tuned by the AMG division. Serving as a core volume pillar for the AMG line-up, the C-Class AMG bridges the gap between entry-level performance and flagship models. On 9 November 2025, the 2026 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC was officially launched. As of June 2026, the updated model is offered in a single variant with an official recommended retail price of RM549,000, reflecting a price cut of around RM66,200 compared to the 2025 model. It is locally assembled (CKD) in China.

Design Language

Exterior-wise, the 2026 AMG C 43 retains the signature styling cues of the AMG family. The front fascia sports a polygonal radiator grille with an internal mesh pattern, centred around the prominent Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star badge. The smoked headlamp clusters incorporate eagle-hook-style LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Down below, the three-section front bumper features generous air intakes with aero-blade inserts for a more aggressive, menacing stance. The "TURBO ELECTRIFIED" badging on the front wings signifies its mild-hybrid powertrain.

The side profile showcases sleek, flowing lines with a subtle split shoulder crease, complemented by flared wheel arches and pronounced side skirts that lend a muscular stance. It rides on a set of 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, an integrated boot lid ducktail spoiler is paired with smoked triangular taillight clusters featuring distinctive dot-matrix LED graphics; the rear apron integrates a lower diffuser flanked by a quad-pipe exhaust layout. Dimensions-wise, the car measures 4,787 mm in length, 1,824 mm in width, and 1,450 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,865 mm. Over ten exterior paint options are available, including Obsidian Black, Graphite Grey, Sodalite Blue, and High-tech Silver.

Inside, the cabin carries over the familiar T-layout architecture from the standard Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It comes fitted with a three-spoke AMG flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, a 12.3-inch free-standing digital instrument cluster, an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented central infotainment touchscreen, and a column-mounted electronic gear selector. The cabin is trimmed with wood-effect panelling and chrome accents, complemented by contrast red stitching. The seats are upholstered in a leather and Alcantara/suede combination. Several interior colour themes are available, including Black, Black/Sienna Brown, and Black/Power Red.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2026 AMG C 43 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Total output is rated at 300 kW (approx. 408 PS/402 hp) and 500 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission (9G-TRONIC/9AT). It completes the 0–100 km/h century sprint in an official time of 4.3 seconds, with top speed electronically capped at 250 km/h. The WLTC combined fuel consumption stands at 8.78 L/100 km, supported by a 66-litre fuel tank.

Chassis & Handling

Under the skin, the 2026 AMG C 43 utilises multi-link independent suspension at both the front and rear axles. Power is channelled to all four wheels via the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system featuring a multi-plate clutch centre differential. Steering is managed by an electric power steering (EPS) rack. The suspension setup features adaptive damping control. Stopping power comes from ventilated disc brakes all around, paired with an electronic parking brake (EPB). The vehicle adopts a monocoque chassis construction.

Cabin & Equipment

In the equipment department, the new model comes standard with a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, complete with smart connected features. Convenience amenities include automatic climate control, a powered tailgate, keyless entry on all doors, and push-button start.

The most significant spec update for the 2026 model year is that the premium Burmester sound system has been downgraded from a standard feature to a cost option. Otherwise, the remaining equipment list remains largely unchanged from the previous model year.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the saloon is fitted with Blind Spot Monitoring / Lane Change Assist, Driver Fatigue Detection, a reverse camera, Auto Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, and more. For active safety and advanced driver assistance, it comes equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite as standard, supported by a sensor array of exterior cameras and ultrasonic parking sensors.

Market Performance & Verdict

Entering the market at RM549,000, the 2026 AMG C 43 sees a substantial price drop of RM66,200 compared to the 2025 iteration. This lower price tag comes directly off the back of the Burmester sound system becoming an optional extra.

In its segment, the AMG C 43 faces fierce rivalry from rivals such as the Audi S4 Limousine (priced at RM488,800, powered by a 3.0T V6) and the BMW M340i. In terms of outright hardware specs and value-for-money proposition, the Audi S4's V6 mill retains an edge in power delivery characteristics and exhaust acoustic appeal; nevertheless, prospective buyers of the AMG C 43 are largely drawn to the prestige of the Mercedes-Benz badge and AMG's rich motorsport heritage.

Across the wider brand, the AMG division delivered roughly 145,000 performance vehicles worldwide in 2025, recording a year-on-year growth of around 7%. However, Mercedes-Benz faces significant headwinds in the Chinese domestic market, having registered a steep 19% sales plunge in 2025. Against this market backdrop, the 2026 AMG C 43 adopts a "repositioning through de-specification" tactic to protect its turf in the compact performance saloon arena. As the industry accelerates toward full electrification, this 2.0T four-cylinder AMG C 43 may well go down as one of the final chapters in the combustion-powered performance saloon era.
