Mazda CX-60

2026-10-10 14:50:00

The Mazda CX-60 is the first mid-size SUV developed on Mazda's all-new Large Product Group platform, making its global debut in March 2022. Underpinned by a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive (FR) longitudinal architecture, it serves as a core strategic model spearheading the brand's move upmarket into the premium luxury segment. The CX-60 is tailored primarily for the European and Japanese markets, complementing the North American-focused CX-70 and CX-90. As of June 2026, the CX-60 has yet to be officially introduced or locally assembled by Changan Mazda.

Model Overview

Positioned as a mid-size luxury SUV slotted between the CX-5 and CX-9, the CX-60's core appeal lies in its longitudinal rear-wheel-drive platform, inline-six engine options, and Mazda's signature "Jinba-Ittai" driving dynamics. In the Taiwan market, the 2026 CX-60 is offered with two powertrains across six variants, priced between NT$1,189,000 and NT$1,719,000 (approx. RM265,000 to RM383,000). In Europe, the 2025 CX-60 carries an indicative retail price range of EUR 47,990 to EUR 65,400 (approx. RM370,000 to RM500,000), while in Australia, prices start from AUD 50,240 (approx. RM236,700).

Design Language

The CX-60 carries forward Mazda's "Kodo: Soul of Motion" design philosophy. It measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase. The long bonnet and short front overhang accentuate the distinctive proportions of a longitudinal engine platform, creating an elongated, sports car-like silhouette. Up front, a deeply sculpted grille is framed by Mazda's signature Kodo wing chrome garnish and vertically stacked LED headlamps. The side profile embraces the Japanese minimalist ethos of "less is more" with clean, sweeping surfaces, delivering a class-competitive drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd. At the rear, sculpted body contours project a planted and muscular stance, complemented by distinctive light signatures in the slim taillights. For the 2026 model year, "Zircon Sand" joins the standard colour palette. High-spec variants are equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels and Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH).

Inside, the CX-60's cabin draws on the Japanese concept of "Hacho" (harmony), seamlessly blending premium materials such as leather, woven textiles, and wood grain trim. The cockpit adopts a driver-centric wraparound layout, featuring dual 12.3-inch screens comprising a fully digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment display. Infotainment controls are operated primarily via the central Commander rotary dial and shortcut buttons, without touchscreen functionality. High-spec grades offer Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory, a 12-speaker BOSE sound system, a wireless smartphone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.

Powertrain & Performance

The CX-60 is available with a diverse selection of powertrains. For petrol options, the 25S variant is powered by a 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine producing 192 hp and 26.6 kg·m of torque. The range-topping 33T variant features a newly developed 3.3-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system, delivering 284 hp and 45.9 kg·m, with the electric motor contributing an additional 16.9 hp and 15.6 kg·m. A 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv PHEV plug-in hybrid system is also available. For diesel markets abroad, 3.3-litre e-Skyactiv D turbocharged inline-six diesel engines are offered in high- and low-output tunes. The entire lineup is paired with a Skyactiv-Drive 8-speed automatic transmission. In terms of fuel economy, the 2.5L model delivers an average consumption of 12.1–13.1 km/L, while the 3.3T mild hybrid achieves up to 14.0 km/L.

Chassis & Handling

Built on Mazda's Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the CX-60 features a longitudinal front-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform. The suspension setup comprises double wishbones at the front and a multi-link independent system at the rear. For the 2026 model year, the chassis has undergone 10 specific suspension recalibrations, including firmer rebound damping on the front shock absorbers, a 20% softer rear spring rate, shortened bump stops, and revised rear subframe bushing geometry. These enhancements notably improve rear-wheel traction, steering accuracy, and high-speed cruising stability. The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has also been retuned for smoother, more communicative steering feedback. Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) comes standard, applying subtle braking to the inner rear wheel to minimise body roll during spirited cornering. Higher-spec variants come equipped with the i-Activ AWD system.

Cabin & Equipment

For the 2026 model year, the CX-60 benefits from extensive NVH enhancements, with higher-density insulation added to the firewall and boot sidewalls, alongside reduced mechanical noise from the drivetrain and regenerative braking. On the comfort front, dual-zone automatic climate control is standard across the range. High-spec models add heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a hands-free power tailgate. Boot capacity measures 570 litres, expanding to 1,148 litres with the rear seats folded down. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity. Selected variants also feature a Driver Personalisation System with facial recognition that automatically restores the steering wheel, seat position, and wing mirrors to pre-saved settings.

Safety & Driver Assistance

In terms of passive safety, the 2026 CX-60 range has been upgraded to 9 airbags (including rear side airbags), marking a notable improvement over the previous 7-airbag configuration. Seatbelt pre-tensioners and a front passenger occupant detection sensor are now fitted as standard across all variants. Active safety is driven by the advanced i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite. Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) adds an Emergency Stop Assist function linked to the Driver Monitoring System, automatically bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop if driver incapacitation is detected. In Europe, the 2026 model also introduces Driver Emergency Assist (DEA) and built-in Amazon Alexa voice control. The vehicle holds a full 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Market Performance & Reviews

As the pioneer model of Mazda's Large Product Group, the CX-60 carries the strategic mission of elevating the brand into the premium luxury space. In Taiwan, its first full sales year in 2024 saw 2,333 units delivered, accounting for 15.8% of the brand's total annual volume. Motoring media have commended the CX-60 for its plush cabin appointments and thoughtful layout, which rival established luxury marques. Following the 2026 chassis updates, the ride quality has transitioned from taut to supple and compliant, making it far more forgiving for family use. Amid the industry-wide push for electrification, Mazda's dedication to developing a longitudinal RWD platform and inline-six engines makes the CX-60 an exceptionally distinctive and technically unique proposition in its segment.
