Model Overview

The Maserati MCXtrema is a track-only high-performance supercar from Italian luxury marque Maserati, developed under the internal codename Project 24. Unveiled globally in August 2023 at Monterey Car Week, the machine is derived from Maserati's mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive MC20 supercar and is hailed as the spiritual successor to the iconic MC12.
The moniker combines "MC" (Maserati Corse, the brand's racing arm) with "Xtrema" (extreme), signifying its mandate to push track-focused performance to the outer limits. Built in a strictly limited run of just 62 units worldwide, it was offered on an invitation-only allocation basis to an exclusive roster of vetted Maserati collectors, completely selling out ahead of its official debut. Assembly commenced in the second half of 2024, with initial customer handovers taking place in autumn 2024. As a dedicated track weapon, the MCXtrema cannot be road-registered or driven on public roads, being strictly homologated for circuit use only.
Design Language
Penned by the Maserati Centro Stile, the exterior blends uncompromising aerodynamic efficiency with dramatic visual presence. A bespoke widebody silhouette incorporates an aggressive aero package and a massive fixed rear wing, topped with a central shark fin inspired directly by F1 and GT racers. The front fascia dispenses with conventional headlamps entirely, retaining only slim LED daytime running lights (DRLs) to save precious weight. A distinctive Trident-shaped air extractor on the bonnet, split roof-scoop intake, prominent front splitter, and an intricately sculpted rear diffuser work in harmony to deliver immense downforce and optimal thermal cooling.
Dimensionally, the track car measures 2,020 mm wide and stands just 1,220 mm tall, while retaining the signature butterfly doors. The body shell makes extensive use of carbon fibre to keep weight to a bare minimum. Aerodynamically sculpted TurboFan alloy wheels, the fixed rear wing, and the vertical dorsal fin further enhance thermal dissipation and high-speed stability.
Interior and Cockpit
The cockpit is stripped out and purpose-built for circuit racing, shedding nearly all road-car comfort amenities. Anchored around the driver, the cabin is finished in a bold blue-and-black livery with extensive exposed carbon weave. Command central consists of a carbon-fibre multi-function racing steering wheel featuring an integrated 5-inch display, granting the pilot on-the-fly adjustment of steering calibration, traction control, brake bias, and engine mapping via dedicated rotary dials and switches. Standard cabin safety gear includes an FIA-spec safety roll cage, a Sabelt carbon racing bucket seat (with an optional passenger seat), a 6-point racing harness, and an onboard OMP fire suppression system.
Powertrain and Performance
Heart of the beast is Maserati’s proprietary 3.0-litre "Nettuno" twin-turbo V6 engine, packing F1-derived twin-spark pre-chamber combustion technology (Turbulent Jet Ignition, or TJI) . Extensively reworked by Maserati Corse with uprated Garrett turbochargers and bespoke ECU and fuelling maps, power output is bumped up to a massive 730-740 hp (540 kW) and 730 Nm of peak torque. Specific output stands at an astonishing 240 hp/litre.
Drive is channelled via a 6-speed sequential racing gearbox complete with paddle shifters, a sinter clutch, and a mechanical limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. Thanks to a featherweight dry figure of only 1,250-1,300 kg, the MCXtrema sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, with top speed rated in excess of 325 km/h. The power-to-weight ratio checks in at roughly 1.8 kg/CV.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinning the MCXtrema is an ultra-rigid carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. Suspension duties are handled by a four-wheel double-wishbone independent setup, paired with 4-way adjustable racing dampers alongside tunable springs and anti-roll bars. Suspension kinematics and geometry have been meticulously calibrated for hardcore track duty.
Stopping power comes courtesy of a carbon-ceramic racing brake package (CCMR discs), clamped by Brembo monobloc calipers featuring six pistons up front and four pistons at the rear. It rides on 18-inch OZ centre-lock forged alloy wheels wrapped in bespoke Pirelli slick rubber. Combined with its ground-hugging stance, the aggressive aero setup generates in excess of 1,000 kg of downforce at high speeds.
Cabin Tech and Features
The MCXtrema is laid out primarily as a single-seater, though a passenger seat is available as a factory option. The layout is strictly ergonomic and track-oriented: the 5-inch screen on the racing wheel displays real-time telemetry, tyre pressure monitoring data, vehicle dynamics, and a feed from the rear-view camera; flanking the driver are dedicated console switchgear to adjust engine maps and traction control thresholds on the fly. Essential conveniences such as a high-output air conditioning system and a digital rear-view display are also fitted.
Safety and Homologation
In terms of occupant safety, the MCXtrema complies fully with stringent FIA safety standards. Factory equipment includes an FIA-homologated safety cage, 6-point racing harnesses, an integrated OMP plumbed-in fire extinguishing system, and an emergency roof escape hatch. An FIA-spec racing fuel cell and an external master safety cut-off switch round out its competition-grade safety credentials.
Market Reception and Provenance
The MCXtrema triggered overwhelming interest among elite collectors from day one, with the entire 62-unit production run snapped up prior to its official launch. Retail pricing kicked off at RM4,150,000 (approx. RM4,890,000 equivalent). The first customer car was officially handed over during the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, followed by phased customer deliveries across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Taiwan. Asia’s maiden allocation was handed over in Taiwan in March 2025, while the very first production unit was presented to French collector Jacques Sicotte at Maserati’s Modena facility in September 2025.
Interestingly, the owner of the first delivered MCXtrema consigned the supercar to an online auction platform after clocking just 228 miles. Bidding climbed to RM3,460,000 before Maserati stepped in and halted the sale, citing strict contractual anti-flipping and resale restriction clauses. The move highlighted Maserati’s unwavering commitment to keeping its flagship track masterpiece firmly in the hands of genuine brand enthusiasts.
Owners are enrolled into Maserati's exclusive MCXperience programme, which offers an elite owner community, one-on-one coaching with professional racing drivers, tailored private track sessions, and specialized trackside technical support. Customers can also personalise their vehicle inside and out through the MCXlusiva bespoke programme.
