Vehicle Overview

The Leapmotor B01 is the brand's first all-electric sedan built on the B platform and underpinned by the LEAP 3.5 architecture. Officially launched in Hangzhou on 24 July 2025, the EV is offered in 3 range variants across 6 trim levels, with official prices ranging from RM89,800 to RM119,800. Positioned as a "high-quality smart sedan for the younger generation", its key rivals include segment contenders like the BYD Qin series and XPENG MONA M03. As the second offering in the Leapmotor B series following the B10 SUV, the B01 shoulders the strategic role of penetrating the C-segment EV market with a high-spec, value-driven proposition.
Design Language
Embodying the "Natural Aesthetics" design language, the Leapmotor B01 features a closed-off front grille typical of pure EVs, flanked by wing-shaped full-width LED daytime running lights that visually widen the front stance. The side profile is accentuated by a sleek 17.2° fastback silhouette and flush pop-out door handles to further enhance aerodynamic efficiency. Around the rear, the "Horizon Wide-body" styling is complemented by gloss black garnishes, exuding a grounded and wide stance. The car boasts an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.197 Cd. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,770 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose from 8 exterior colours, including the exclusive Morgan Pink shade co-developed with the Pantone Color Institute.
Inside, the cabin features a wrap-around cockpit layout with soft-touch materials covering up to 88% of visible surfaces. It is fitted with a flat-bottom three-spoke multifunction leatherette steering wheel and a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen. The clean, horizontal dashboard layout delivers a sleek and uncluttered minimalist look.
Powertrain and Performance
The Leapmotor B01 comes exclusively with a rear-motor, rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup across the range, offering three electric motor outputs. The base 430 Comfort Edition is powered by a 100 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor with 175 Nm of torque. The mid-spec 550 Comfort Edition steps up to a 132 kW motor, while the flagship Enjoy Edition and LiDAR Edition pack a 160 kW motor pushing out 240 Nm. The century sprint (0-100 km/h) is completed in 9.4 seconds, 8.7 seconds, and 6.4 seconds respectively, with top speeds rated between 150 km/h and 160 km/h.
Energy is supplied by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs in 43.9 kWh, 56.2 kWh, and 67.1 kWh capacities, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 430 km, 550 km, and 650 km respectively. With DC fast charging, a 30% to 80% top-up takes just 18 minutes. Power consumption is rated as low as 11.4 kWh/100 km. The car also features an advanced 27-in-1 integrated thermal management system, saving around 30% of packaging space while reducing thermal components by 60%.
Chassis and Handling
Under the skin, the Leapmotor B01 rides on front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup. Tuned jointly by Leapmotor's Sino-European chassis engineering team, it strikes an optimal balance between handling agility and ride comfort. The EV boasts a balanced 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and a compact turning radius of just 5.25 m. It also comes equipped with a rare tyre blowout stability control system, engineered to maintain vehicle stability during high-speed tyre failures. The driveline remains a rear-mounted motor, rear-wheel drive layout.
Cabin and Features
On the tech front, the Leapmotor B01 comes standard with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset across the range, running the latest Leapmotor OS 4.0 Plus interface. Display duties are handled by a 14.6-inch 2.5K ultra-clear floating infotainment touchscreen. The system supports multimodal recognition, the "Super Xiao Ling" AI voice assistant, a 3D dynamic desktop, and fluid transition animations.
In terms of convenience, higher-spec variants get heated front seats, a ventilated driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, a 12-speaker sound system, 256-colour ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, a panoramic glass roof, and a 15W Qi wireless smartphone charger. The cabin offers 26 storage compartments, while the boot delivers a 460-litre capacity (including a 70-litre underfloor compartment), capable of accommodating four 24-inch luggage bags.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Advanced driver assistance is a headline selling point for the Leapmotor B01. High-spec models are driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8650 ADAS chip delivering 200 TOPS of computing power, supported by a suite of 27 high-precision sensors including a roof-mounted LiDAR unit. The system supports 26 active safety and ADAS functions, including Highway Navigation Assist Pilot (NAP), Commute Navigation Assist Pilot (CNAP), memory parking assist, and lane change assist. Notably, the RM113,800 variant already features LiDAR, lowering the price threshold for high-level intelligent driving hardware to well under the RM120,000 mark. Entry trims come standard with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Control (LCC), and a 360-degree camera system.
For passive safety, the B01 utilises a high-rigidity cage body structure with 9 crossmembers and 7 longitudinal beams, comprising 76.6% high-strength steel alongside 2 GPa ultra-high-strength hot-stamped steel for the passenger cell. The battery incorporates CTC 2.0 Plus (Cell-to-Chassis) technology, integrating the cells directly into the floor without traditional modules or packs. The battery exceeds national safety benchmarks, offering up to 48 hours of zero thermal runaway without fire or explosion risks. In terms of restraint systems, higher-spec models are equipped with full-length front and rear curtain airbags.
Market Performance and Reception
The Leapmotor B01 got off to a flying start upon its debut. Deliveries exceeded 8,000 units in its launch month of July 2025, recording consecutive month-on-month gains to surpass 12,600 units in September and peaking at 13,401 units in November. However, sales experienced a sharp drop thereafter, sliding 41.6% month-on-month to 7,815 units in December, and cooling further to 2,099 units in January 2026. Industry observers attribute this pullback to the tapering off of initial launch hype, internal reallocation of marketing resources, and fierce price wars in the wider EV segment.
Leapmotor founder, chairman, and CEO Zhu Jiangming famously dubbed the B01 a "half-price Model 3", highlighting its ability to deliver superior performance and cutting-edge tech at a price point just above RM100,000. Leapmotor has firmly avoided fleet sales for e-hailing, focusing purely on private retail buyers. As an integral component of the B series' "SUV + Sedan" dual-model offensive, the B01's high-spec, value-centric playbook has democratised LiDAR and high-level autonomous driving tech within the RM100,000 bracket, setting a new benchmark for accessible EV technology in the segment.
