Kaiyi Xuandu EV

2026-09-29 19:00:02

The Xuandu EV is a compact fully electric sedan launched by Kaiyi Auto, targeted primarily at practical family buyers and the e-hailing market. The 2026 lineup offers two variants: the Maika 03 Edition (RM149,900) and the Yuexiang Edition (RM169,900), featuring an improved CLTC range of 451 km and multi-link independent rear suspension as standard across the range.

Model Overview

Positioned as a compact electric sedan under Kaiyi Auto (backed by Yibin State-owned Assets), its key highlights include a 451 km CLTC range, a 2,700 mm wheelbase, multi-link rear independent suspension, and a sporty bodykit rarely seen in the RM100,000-class EV family sedan segment. Dimensions measure 4,724 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,532 mm in height, with a boot space of 455 litres.

Design Language

The 2025–2026 models feature a closed-off front grille design with the charging port concealed behind the central emblem cover. Due to its front fascia bearing a resemblance to the Lamborghini Urus, netizens have jokingly dubbed it the "budget Lamborghini". The updated model offers a sporty exterior package for the first time, featuring a prominent rear spoiler, side skirts, and quad faux exhaust trims. Inside, the cabin gets a 10.25-inch floating central touchscreen (with CarLife support), physical buttons for air conditioning, and a rotary gear selector.

Powertrain and Range

The 2026 range is powered by a front electric motor producing 100 kW (136 PS) and 175 Nm of torque, delivering a top speed of 140 km/h. Battery-wise, the Maika 03 Edition packs a 50.51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, providing a CLTC range of 451 km; in comparison, the outgoing 2024 model was powered by a 120 kW motor and a 53.6 kWh battery with a 420 km range. DC fast charging is supported across the range, taking 30 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.

Chassis and Handling

All variants ride on front MacPherson struts paired with a multi-link independent rear suspension, representing a generous chassis setup for electric family sedans at this price point. An electronic parking brake (EPB) and 205/55 R16 tyres come as standard. The 2026 Yuexiang Edition has a kerb weight of 1,580 kg, with front and rear track widths measuring 1,546 mm and 1,523 mm respectively.

Equipment and Safety

Equipment levels differ distinctly between variants:

  • Maika 03 Edition (RM149,900): 2 speakers, urethane steering wheel, 3.5-inch monochrome instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, front-only USB port, without sunroof or connected car services.

  • Yuexiang Edition (RM169,900): Largely identical equipment, differing only in battery pack specification.

  • 2024 High-Spec Model: Available with optional 360-degree camera system, front side airbags, 4 speakers (upgradable to 6), and cruise control.

Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera come standard across the range. Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is included, but Level 2 ADAS functions such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) are completely absent.

Market Performance

The Xuandu EV targets the RM100,000 to RM170,000 pure electric family sedan market, competing directly with rivals such as the BYD Qin PLUS EV and GAC AION S. Its main selling points are its multi-link rear suspension and optional sporty styling kit. However, constrained by low brand presence and basic smart tech (lacking Level 2 ADAS and telematics), the 2026 Yuexiang Edition's price tag of RM169,900 remains uncompetitive against its rivals.

Buyer feedback focuses positively on its solid chassis dynamics and reliable real-world range, but shortcomings like bare-bones infotainment functionality, budget cabin materials, and a basic 2-speaker audio system remain evident. The model appeals primarily to practical buyers who prioritise mechanical hardware over tech gadgets, as well as commercial fleet and e-hailing operators.
