The KGM Torres is a mid-size SUV from South Korea's KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong Motor). The Torres model range first debuted in 2022, serving as a crucial strategic model for the SsangYong brand's transition into the KG Mobility era. In May 2026, the Torres received a mid-lifecycle facelift. As of June 2026, the model has not been officially introduced to the mainland Chinese market.

The Torres is positioned as a mid-size SUV (classified as a compact SUV in certain markets), highlighting a blend of rugged off-road styling and modern tech features, competing directly against segment rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage. Dimensions measure 4,702 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,720 mm in height, with a 2,680 mm wheelbase. Following its domestic launch in South Korea, monthly sales peaked at approximately 6,000 units. The vehicle comes in a 5-seater configuration. The 2026 facelift model is priced from 29,050,000 KRW (approx. RM153,000) in South Korea. In the UK market, pricing starts from 34,995 GBP (approx. RM320,000). In Australia, the starting price is 46,862 AUD (approx. RM220,000).
The exterior design of the Torres carries over the brand's off-road DNA from the SsangYong era, sporting a boxy, rugged silhouette. Up front, it features a vertical radiator grille seamlessly integrated with the headlamp clusters into a single unit. Both the front and rear are fitted with metallic-finish skid plates. The rear accentuates its tough character with a split bumper and three-dimensional vertical protective cladding, alongside a tailgate storage garnish mimicking a spare tyre cover. The facelifted model receives a restyled front bumper with a horizontal grille and aluminium-look trim in the centre section. Alloy wheel options range from 17 to 20 inches in diamond-cut finish. The facelift also introduces a new Plasma Shadow grey exterior shade.
The all-electric Torres EVX features bespoke styling, replacing the traditional radiator grille with six horizontal LED light strips. Decorative grab handles are also fitted on the bonnet.
Inside, the facelifted Torres has undergone a comprehensive overhaul. The dashboard now features a dual-tier layout, replacing the pre-facelift floating island design. The steering wheel switches to a twin-spoke, dual-flat design. The gear selector has reverted from toggle paddles to a conventional gear lever. Physical rotary dials and buttons make a return for the climate control system. Three interior colour themes are available: two-tone grey, black, and brown.
The Torres is offered with a choice of powertrains. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.5-litre T-GDI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 170 hp (125 kW), with peak torque upgraded post-facelift from 28.6 kg·m to 30.6 kg·m (approx. 300 Nm). The transmission has also been upgraded from an AISIN 6-speed automatic gearbox to an AISIN 8-speed automatic gearbox. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 9.76 seconds, with a top speed of approximately 191 km/h.
The hybrid Torres Hybrid is equipped with the "Dual Tech Hybrid System" co-developed by KGM and BYD. Employing a P1+P3 dual-motor architecture, the setup combines a 1.5T engine, a 130 kW electric motor, and a 1.83 kWh LFP battery, delivering a combined output of 150 kW. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 15.7 km/L (approx. 6.4 L/100 km), marking a 41% improvement over the petrol version. In urban driving, it can operate in pure electric mode up to 94% of the time.
The all-electric Torres EVX packs a 73.4 kWh BYD Blade Battery, powering a front-axle permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 152 kW (207 hp) and 339 Nm of torque. It achieves a WLTP-rated range of 462 km, completing the 0-100 km/h run in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 175 km/h.
Additionally, a bi-fuel LPG version is offered in selected markets.
The Torres is built on a monocoque chassis. The suspension setup consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear. Ground clearance stands at 195 mm, with an approach angle of 18.3° and a departure angle of 20.8°.
Drivetrain options include front-wheel drive (FWD) and an on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Under normal conditions, the AWD system operates in all-wheel drive, automatically switching to two-wheel drive above 50 km/h to improve fuel efficiency. The facelifted model adds a new Terrain Mode system with Sand, Mud, and Snow/Gravel modes, calibrating power distribution and steering response based on road conditions. Together with the existing Normal, Sport, Winter, and 2WD modes, the range offers a total of seven drive modes. The vehicle also boasts a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 1.5 tonnes.
The Torres cabin features a dual 12.3-inch screen setup, integrating a fully digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen display. Infotainment duties are handled by KGM's latest-generation Athena 2.5 system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity as well as over-the-air (OTA) updates. In terms of comfort features, it comes equipped with dual-zone climate control, front and rear heated seats, dual wireless smartphone charging pads, and front and rear USB Type-C ports. Higher-spec variants add an NFC digital key, a hands-free powered tailgate, and ventilated front seats.
Boot space measures 839 litres in standard configuration, expandable to 1,662 litres with the rear seats folded down.
In terms of safety specifications, the Torres meets contemporary mainstream standards. Passive safety includes 8 airbags as standard across the range (with top-spec UK models adding a driver's knee airbag). Active safety is supported by an advanced ADAS suite, featuring: Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), full-speed Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and Exit Warning. Higher-spec models also benefit from a 3D surround-view camera system.
Since its debut in 2022, the Torres has achieved impressive sales figures in South Korea, serving as a pivotal model in KGM's corporate restructuring and operational recovery. Monthly sales in South Korea once peaked at around 6,000 units. The 2026 facelift model is priced between 29,050,000 and 36,510,000 KRW in the South Korean market.
The Torres lineup has established a complete powertrain portfolio spanning conventional petrol, bi-fuel LPG, petrol-electric hybrid, and all-electric variants. In 2025, the Torres Hybrid was officially launched as the brand's first hybrid model. In Australia, the Torres went on sale in late 2025 with a 5-year/100,000 km warranty. In the UK market, the Torres comes standard with the comprehensive ADAS suite and the dual 12.3-inch tech cockpit.
Motoring media reviews note that with its rugged off-road styling, diverse powertrain options, and competitive pricing strategy, the Torres demonstrates a distinctive personality and strong practical appeal in the fiercely contested SUV market.
