KGM Musso

2026-10-09 15:40:01

The KGM Musso is a mid-size pick-up truck from South Korea's KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong Motor). As one of the brand's longest-standing nameplates, the Musso traces its roots back to the eponymous SUV introduced in 1993. Following its acquisition by parent company KG Group in 2022, SsangYong Motor was officially rebranded as KG Mobility (KGM). In late 2025, KGM unveiled the all-new generation Musso (internal codename Q300), ushering the nameplate into a brand-new era. As of June 2026, the model has yet to be officially introduced to the mainland Chinese market.

Model Overview

Positioned as a mid-size pick-up (ute), the Musso emphasizes rugged off-road styling, multi-purpose practicality, and strong value for money. Its name is derived from the Korean word "무쏘", meaning "rhino", symbolising toughness and an independent character. The all-new generation Musso will replace the existing Rexton Sports to serve as KGM's flagship pick-up. It is offered in two body styles—standard wheelbase and long wheelbase—badged as the Musso and Musso Grand Style respectively. In South Korea, the entry-level short-bed petrol variant is priced in the 29-million-won range (approx. RM153,000), with the mid-spec at around 35 million won and the top-spec at around 39 million won. In Australia, the 2026 Musso starts from AUD 40,140 (approx. RM189,000).

Design Language

The all-new Musso’s exterior adopts KGM’s latest "Powered by Toughness" design philosophy, showcasing an uncompromising, rugged aesthetic. The front fascia features a bold, boxy bumper and a prominent radiator grille, flanked by horizontal radial LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and a full-width light bar that create an aggressive stance. The grille features a five-slot vertical layout, with illuminated accents available on selected variants. Muscular, well-defined body lines define the side profile, with chunky scratch-resistant plastic cladding over the wheel arches housing integrated amber turn signals. At the rear, vertical LED tail lights frame the tailgate, which is prominently emblazoned with the "KGM" script above heavy-duty black lower bumper cladding. A sporty sports bar is fitted over the cargo bed to accentuate its outdoor lifestyle and workhorse appeal. KGM also offers an optional "Grand Style" pack, adding more urban and premium styling cues. In terms of dimensions, the 2025 model measures 5,095 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,840 mm in height, with a 3,100 mm wheelbase.

Powertrain & Performance

The all-new generation Musso comes with a choice of petrol and turbodiesel powertrains. The diesel variant is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 202 PS and a peak torque of 45.0 kg·m (approx. 441 Nm). The petrol variant features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 217 PS and 38.7 kg·m (approx. 380 Nm) of peak torque. KGM anticipates a 60:40 sales split between the diesel and petrol models. Furthermore, KGM plans to roll out the "Dual-Tech Hybrid" petrol-electric powertrain co-developed with BYD, combining a 1.5-litre turbo engine with a dedicated e-DHT transmission and a P1+P3 dual-motor architecture. The fully electric Musso EV is already available in selected markets, equipped with an 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and a 152 kW electric motor.

Chassis & Handling

Underpinning the all-new Musso is a high-strength ladder-frame chassis (body-on-frame), which forms the core foundation of its rugged pick-up credentials. For suspension, a five-link coil spring rear setup comes standard to ensure stable handling and passenger comfort, while long-bed variants can be specified with heavy-duty leaf springs for enhanced payload capacity. As for the drivetrain, it features a four-wheel drive (4WD) system with an automatic locking differential (LD), ensuring dependable traction and stability in adverse weather and across rough terrains. The vehicle boasts a 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity and a 750 kg unbraked rating.

Cabin & Features

Inside, the Musso's cabin adopts a passenger-car-like aesthetic. It is expected to feature a dual 12.3-inch panoramic curved display setup comprising a full digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment touchscreen with smartphone connectivity. Comfort appointments include synthetic leather upholstery on standard variants and genuine leather on premium trims. The pick-up comes in a double-cab, five-seater configuration. For the cargo bed, buyers can choose between standard-bed and long-bed options to suit different payload requirements.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The Musso is comprehensively equipped on the active safety and driver assistance front. It features Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) , paired with an electronic parking brake (EPB) to provide full stop-and-go functionality. Other standard safety features include: Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) , Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Safety Distance Alert (SDA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Centred Lane Keeping Assist (CLKA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCTA-i), and Intelligent Speed Limit Warning. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a Clear Sight View (CSV) underbody camera  and a 360-degree surround-view monitor. On the chassis control front, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Hill Start Assist (HSA) come standard.

Market Performance & Reviews

As KGM’s flagship pick-up, the Musso spearheads the brand’s drive to expand its footprint in the global pick-up truck segment. The all-new Musso (Q300) is scheduled to debut first in South Korea in Q1 2026 before rolling out to Europe, Australia, and other global markets. KGM aims to increase exports of the new Musso to roughly half of its total sales volume, focusing on expanding its presence in Europe, Central America, and South America.

In the Australian market, the 2025 Musso has carved out a solid niche in the fiercely contested ute segment, backed by competitive pricing (starting around AUD 40,000) and its 3.5-tonne towing capacity. In June 2026, KGM Australia rolled out a limited-time promotional campaign, bringing the drive-away price of the entry-level Musso down to AUD 37,490, making it the most affordable double-cab pick-up in Australia. In media reviews, Wheels magazine noted in its 2025–26 Ute of the Year testing that the Musso is well-designed, cleverly executed, comfortable, and roomy, with an overall feel that defies its budget-friendly price point. With a storied history spanning more than three decades, the revitalised Musso under the rebranded KGM marque continues to stand out in the global mid-size pick-up market with diverse powertrain options, bold styling, and an aggressive pricing strategy.
