Hyundai Creta

2026-10-11 03:10:00

The Hyundai Creta is a B-segment compact SUV developed by Hyundai Motor Company specifically for emerging markets, serving as a core strategic model for the Korean marque in regions like India and Southeast Asia. First launched in 2015 by Hyundai Motor India, it shares its platform architecture with the Beijing Hyundai ix25. Backed by its sharp market positioning, comprehensive powertrain options, and segment-above tech features, the Creta swiftly emerged as one of Hyundai's top-selling SUVs across global emerging markets. As of June 2026, the model has received its 2024 mid-lifecycle facelift and also spawned a fully electric variant.

Model Overview

Positioned as a B-segment compact crossover—often marketed as a "mid-size SUV" in India—the Creta goes up against segment rivals such as the Honda HR-V, Kia Seltos, and Suzuki Grand Vitara. The 2024 facelift model measures 4,330 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. These proportions make the Creta the largest offering in Hyundai’s B-SUV portfolio, sitting above both the Venue and BAYON.

Pricing varies considerably across markets: in India, the range-topping variant is priced at around RM178,000; in Russia, the 2026 model starts from approximately 1.2 million rubles (around RM98,000).

Design Language

The exterior of the 2024 Creta incorporates Hyundai's latest corporate design identity. The front fascia is headlined by a bold parametric jewel-pattern grille flanked by split LED headlamp clusters—featuring a full-width horizon LED daytime running light (DRL) strip across the top and main lighting units below for a futuristic visual signature. The lower apron is fitted with a silver faux skid plate, rectangular air dams, and functional side air curtains to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and road presence. Prominent bonnet creases further add to its muscular, athletic stance.

In profile, the Creta features crisp, chiselled lines with a distinctive segmented character crease, complemented by silver side sill garnishes and arched door trims that lend visual depth. It rides on five-spoke alloy wheels framed by rugged black protective cladding over the wheel arches and lower sills. At the rear, it features full-width connected LED taillamps with an inverted L-shaped lighting motif that mirrors the front signature. A sporty roof spoiler and a restyled silver rear bumper plate round off the layered styling. Higher variants are offered with a two-tone paint finish with a contrasting black roof for a floating-roof aesthetic. Additionally, Hyundai offers the sportier Creta N Line, which gains an aggressive aerodynamic body kit and a bespoke honeycomb radiator grille.

Inside, the 2024 Creta benefits from a thoroughly revamped cabin layout headlined by dual 10.25-inch integrated display screens—seamlessly housing the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen under a single housing. The dashboard features a clean cascading architecture with horizontal AC vents smoothly blended into metallic chrome trims. Hyundai has thoughtfully retained tactile physical buttons and rotary dials below the screen, ensuring seamless ergonomics alongside modern digital tech. Gear selection is handled via a rotary shift dial. The interior comes with several trim palettes, with flagship trims boasting a dual-tone white dashboard layout with horizontal air vents for a more premium cabin ambiance.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2024 Creta features an upgraded engine lineup, introducing a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that replaces the older 1.4-litre turbo unit. The SUV is currently available with three powertrain choices:

  • 1.5L Smartstream G naturally aspirated petrol engine: Produces 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

  • 1.5T GDi turbocharged petrol engine: Delivers 160 PS (157–160 hp) and 253 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) . Peak torque is accessible across a broad powerband from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm.

  • 1.5T CRDi turbocharged diesel engine: Outputs 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

Earlier diesel models were also offered with a 1.6-litre CRDi unit churning out 128 PS and 260 Nm of torque. In addition, Hyundai has launched the Creta EV, which adopts a single-motor front-wheel-drive setup capable of completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds.

Chassis and Handling

Under the skin, the Creta shares its platform architecture with the Kia Seltos within the Hyundai Motor Group. The suspension setup comprises front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam semi-independent axle. Chassis tuning is comfort-biased while preserving reassuring high-speed stability and composed handling. The body-in-white incorporates high-strength steel, with high-strength steel making up 35.8% of the structure to bolster torsional rigidity. Drivers can toggle between three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport to suit varying driving conditions and personal preferences. Specific regional variants also come equipped with multi-terrain traction modes for Snow, Mud, and Sand.

Cabin and Equipment

The Creta sets a high benchmark in its segment for cabin tech and creature comforts. The centerpiece is the dual 10.25-inch integrated screen setup, supporting a 360-degree surround view camera system. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Range-topping models also come fitted with a premium 8-speaker BOSE sound system.

Convenience and luxury appointments include ventilated and heated front seats, an operable panoramic glass sunroof, a wireless smartphone charging pad, multi-colour ambient lighting, an integrated air purifier, as well as front and rear USB charging ports. Climate control duties are handled by a multi-zone automatic system.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Safety is well catered for, with comprehensive active and passive safety features. On the passive safety front, 6 airbags come as standard across all variants. The reinforced shell incorporates Ultra-High-Strength Steel (UHSS) and Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) to provide robust crashworthiness. Standard active safety equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM).

For driver assistance, the Creta is equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), delivering Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. The suite encompasses up to 19 advanced safety functions, highlighted by:

  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go : manages full stop-and-go in traffic

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) : includes Junction Turning support

  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)

  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)

  • High Beam Assist (HBA)

  • 360-degree surround view camera

  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

  • Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) : prevents roll-back on inclines

  • ISOFIX child seat anchor points

Furthermore, top-tier variants come with the Hyundai Bluelink connected car suite, allowing for remote vehicle telemetry, remote engine start and cabin pre-cooling, vehicle tracking, and over-the-air destination sharing.

Market Performance and Reception

The Creta stands as one of Hyundai’s most lucrative success stories in emerging markets. In India, its market performance has been nothing short of stellar—registering an all-time high annual volume of 186,919 units in 2024, before breaching the 200,000-unit annual threshold for the first time in 2025. In May 2026, the Creta retained its crown as India's best-selling mid-size SUV with monthly sales of 15,235 units. Over a decade since its Indian debut in 2015, cumulative sales have surpassed 1.2 million units.

In Vietnam, the Creta enjoys similar market dominance, achieving monthly sales of 1,696 units in December 2025 to lead Hyundai's sales charts. Its strong overseas track record has also earned the Creta widespread acclaim in markets across Russia and Southeast Asia.

Automotive reviews consistently praise the Creta for its broad powertrain selection, class-leading tech equipment (dual panoramic screens, BOSE audio, Level 2 ADAS), and spot-on market packaging. The new 1.5T turbocharged mill paired with the snappy 7-speed DCT provides a significant performance and refinement boost. Minor criticisms center on the torsion beam rear suspension feeling firm over rough surfaces during enthusiastic driving, while rear legroom remains average for the segment. Nevertheless, as a global SUV tailored for emerging regions, the Hyundai Creta retains a formidable market standing in the competitive compact SUV arena courtesy of its well-rounded package, diverse engine lineup, and steadily evolving technology suite.
