Honda Jazz

2026-10-11 23:00:03

Model Overview

The Honda Jazz is a globally acclaimed B-segment hatchback that has evolved through five generations since its debut in 2001. Its core design philosophy centres on maximising cabin space within a relatively compact footprint. In certain markets, the Jazz is regarded as a unique offering that blends the practicality of a compact MPV with the agile handling of a hatchback. The current fourth-generation model was introduced in 2020, while the all-new fifth-generation iteration is slated for a 2026 debut. Dimension-wise, the current model measures around 3,995 mm in length with a 2,530 mm wheelbase. In Japan, where it is badged as the Fit, prices start from around 1,776,500 yen (approximately RM86,700).

Design Language

The current Jazz embraces Honda's latest family design language, complete with two-tone exterior colour options. It boasts a distinct silhouette, featuring ultra-slim A-pillars that are half the width of its predecessor's to significantly enhance forward visibility. The body lines are clean and flowing, with crisp horizontal flanks and a defined shoulder line accentuating the rear wheel arches for a wider, more planted stance. At the rear, the styling mirrors the front with sleek horizontal taillights and a split roof spoiler.

In 2026, Honda introduced a limited-run 2026 Jazz (badged as Fit in China) sporting a sportier and more rugged aesthetic. The front fascia gets split headlamps, sleek daytime running lights (DRLs), and a slim upper grille, complemented by a prominently enlarged lower air intake for a more aggressive look. Around the back, the restyled rear bumper gains an integrated diffuser trim.

Inside, the Jazz adopts a clean, user-friendly cabin philosophy. The dashboard is clutter-free, and a wide centre console armrest elevates the overall premium ambiance. In terms of upholstery, higher-spec variants like the Advance Sport feature a blend of sporty suede and synthetic leather, highlighted by distinctive yellow contrast stitching.

Powertrain & Performance

At the heart of the current Jazz is Honda's signature e:HEV hybrid system, a self-charging 'full hybrid' setup that requires no plug-in charging. It combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors, a next-generation lithium-ion battery pack, and an e-CVT gearbox. Total system output is rated at 122 hp, with the electric drive motor delivering 253 Nm of peak torque. The century sprint (0-100 km/h / 0-62 mph) takes around 9.4 to 9.6 seconds, on to a top speed of 174 km/h (108 mph).

The e:HEV powertrain switches seamlessly between three drive modes—EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive—to deliver maximum efficiency. Drivers can also select between ECON, Normal, and Sport driving modes. Thanks to this advanced hybrid setup, the Jazz delivers exceptional fuel efficiency, returning a combined consumption as low as 4.0 L/100 km (61.4 mpg) and an impressive total range of over 900 km from its 40-litre fuel tank.

Additionally, select markets like China offered the Jazz/Fit with a naturally aspirated 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine pushing out 124 hp and 145 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT. Meanwhile, the European market previously received 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre entry-level petrol options.

Chassis & Handling

Built on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout (with AWD available in select markets), the Jazz features a firmer suspension setup tuned for sharper body control. It boasts a tight turning radius of just 5.2 metres, granting superb manoeuvrability in urban traffic. The e:HEV variant's gearbox also includes a 'B' mode (regenerative braking mode), where drivers can adjust regen strength via steering paddle shifters to achieve a near 'single-pedal' driving feel in its strongest setting.

Cabin & Equipment

Interior roominess remains the Jazz's standout hallmark, anchored by its ingenious "Magic Seats" . The rear seats can either be folded flat to unlock a cavernous boot/cargo area or flipped upwards to carry taller items, offering unmatched versatility in its class.

On the infotainment front, it comes with a 9-inch Honda CONNECT touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Range-topping trims such as the Advance Sport further pack premium amenities like a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, a digital instrument cluster, and Garmin satellite navigation.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety is a major priority, with the Honda SENSING advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) fitted as standard across all variants in Europe and most major markets. The safety suite includes:

Passive safety is bolstered by a comprehensive airbag setup, which includes a front centre airbag, driver's knee airbag, and rear side airbags. However, entry-level variants in certain regions may see Honda SENSING omitted.

Market Performance & Reception

The Honda Jazz (Fit) holds a stellar global reputation as a benchmark B-segment hatchback. In Europe, it has garnered widespread praise for its frugal hybrid powertrain, clever packaging, and bulletproof reliability. However, with the global shift towards SUVs, the compact hatchback segment has faced increasing pressure. In China, the Fit was famously dubbed the "people's supercar" for its enthusiast appeal and tuning potential, though its sales volume has experienced fluctuations in recent times.

To adapt to shifting market dynamics, Honda rolled out a limited-run Jazz in 2026 to offer a more accessible entry price. At the same time, reports indicate that Honda is gearing up to introduce the next-generation Jazz in 2026. Built on a brand-new platform, the upcoming model is slated to grow slightly in size (with length estimated at 4,050 mm and wheelbase at 2,550 mm) and receive an upgraded e:HEV hybrid powertrain, repositioning it further upmarket. In terms of styling, the next-gen Jazz is expected to ditch its cute aesthetic in favour of a sharper, more athletic design language.
