HYPTEC

2026-08-15 21:20:00

HYPTEC (formerly Hyper) is the only high‑end luxury electric vehicle brand under GAC Group. The brand was officially launched on September 15, 2022, with its headquarters in Guangzhou, China. HYPTEC carries GAC Group's brand premiumisation mission, tasked with developing the 200,000‑yuan and above—and even higher—market segments. Its brand DNA is defined by "Technology, Luxury, and High Taste."

HYPTEC was born under GAC Group's "Panyu Action" reform blueprint, drawing on GAC's technical expertise in the new energy field. Organisationally, HYPTEC has evolved from a GAC AION sub‑brand into an independent high‑end brand operated by GAC Group. In January 2025, HYPTEC formally separated from GAC AION to become "GAC HYPTEC," listed alongside Trumpchi and AION as one of GAC's three major independent brands. GAC Group has established an "unlimited" investment strategy for HYPTEC, channelling the group's top human, material, and financial resources, and explicitly stating that "the most advanced technology will be first deployed on HYPTEC models."

Key figures of the HYPTEC brand include: Feng Xingya, Chairman of GAC Group (group‑level strategic commander); Huang Yongqiang, Deputy General Manager of GAC Group (overall head of the independent sector); Ma Haiyang, CEO of GAC HYPTEC (brand operations lead); and Zhang Xiong, President of HYPTEC AION BU (business unit operations lead). Ma Haiyang previously led the construction of GAC AION's Thailand Intelligent Factory and oversaw the export of China's first mass‑produced supercar; he is now leading HYPTEC's reform efforts with an international perspective and user‑centric mindset.

Development History

Brand Launch and Product Trial Period (2022–2023)

On September 15, 2022, AION launched its new high‑end brand "Hyper HYPTEC" (later renamed HYPTEC). That same night, the first model—the pure electric supercar HYPTEC SSR—made its debut, with a 1.9‑second 0‑100 km/h acceleration and billing as "China's first mass‑produced supercar" and "the world's first mass‑produced pure electric supercar." HYPTEC's birth came amid a broader trend of Chinese new energy brands pushing upward, with major automakers launching premium brands such as Voyah, IM, and Zeekr. HYPTEC carried GAC Group's mission to fill the high‑end gap. In July 2023, HYPTEC launched its first mainstream consumer model—the mid‑to‑large sports sedan HYPTEC GT; in November of the same year, the second model—the mid‑to‑large luxury pure electric SUV HYPTEC HT—followed, targeting the 200,000‑300,000 RMB price range. However, sales failed to gain traction: HYPTEC's full‑year 2023 sales totalled only around 8,000 units, with the GT selling 4,568 units and the HT 3,504 units.

Sales Climb and Brand Exploration (2024)

In 2024, HYPTEC brand sales grew to approximately 17,400 units (GT 6,689; HT 10,637), but still fell short of the 50,000‑unit target. In July of that year, 360 Group founder Zhou Hongyi had his fingers pinched while experiencing the gull‑wing doors of the HYPTEC HT. This accidental event triggered an 800% increase in brand awareness, with online wags noting that "over 100 million in ad spend couldn't match a single finger pinch." Monthly sales data showed a significant volume bump for the HT following the incident. In late 2024, the HYPTEC HT swap version and LiDAR version were successively launched, with cumulative full‑year sales reaching 10,637 units.

Independent Operation and Deep Transformation (2025–Present)

In January 2025, HYPTEC formally separated from AION to become "GAC HYPTEC." Ma Haiyang took office as the first CEO and released the "HYPTEC Set Out Again" declaration, reaffirming the brand's commitment to "Technology, Luxury, High Taste." On April 12, the first flagship product after the brand renewal—the family‑oriented intelligent new luxury SUV HYPTEC HL—was officially launched, offering pure electric and extended‑range powertrains, five‑ and six‑seat layouts, and eight configurations, priced from 269,800 to 319,800 RMB. That same year, GAC Group launched "Xingyuan Extended Range" technology, first deployed on the HYPTEC HL extended‑range version. Full‑year 2025 HYPTEC cumulative sales reached approximately 42,000 units, a 35% year‑on‑year increase. In December, GAC Group initiated independent brand BU reform, and HYPTEC AION BU was formed first. The two brands began channel integration, aiming to expand HYPTEC's service network from 200 stores to over 1,000. In March 2026, the new luxury smart flagship sedan HYPTEC A800 was launched, marking HYPTEC's entry into the new luxury 2.0 era.

Market Performance

Since its establishment, HYPTEC's sales have gone through a trajectory from low levels to gradual—but slow—growth, with breakthroughs sought through deep transformation. In 2023, full‑year sales were approximately 8,087 units; in 2024, full‑year sales were approximately 17,400 units. On a monthly basis, average sales in 2024 remained above 1,000 units, but the brand's overall share remained small. The HYPTEC HT is the sales mainstay, with full‑year 2025 cumulative sales of approximately 8,904 units, the GT at approximately 4,401 units, and the SSR maintaining sales within the three‑digit range, primarily for brand image purposes.

In 2025, with brand independence, the HL launch, and resource integration, HYPTEC's full‑year cumulative sales climbed to approximately 42,000 units, a 35% year‑on‑year increase. After the HYPTEC AION BU was formed, January 2026 sales reached 23,591 units (including AION), a 63.9% year‑on‑year increase. However, looking at HYPTEC brand alone, January 2026 sales were approximately 341 units, dropping to 366 units in March—market share remained relatively low. Single‑brand retail volume in March 2025 was only 958 units. Sales growth at the HYPTEC AION BU level came more from AION brand pull, while HYPTEC's own breakthrough in the high‑end market is still a work in progress.

Financially, GAC Group overall sales are under pressure—from January to September 2025, cumulative sales fell 11.34% year‑on‑year, with a first‑half net loss of 2.538 billion RMB, the first half‑year loss in nearly ten years. HYPTEC's investment return within the group has not yet reached ideal levels, but GAC Group has stated it will continue to invest "unlimitedly" in HYPTEC's development.

Core Technologies

As the vehicle for GAC Group's advanced technology deployment, HYPTEC has made comprehensive investments across intelligent driving, powertrain, platform architecture, and safety systems.

Intelligent Driving. HYPTEC has developed a dual‑track approach combining deep cooperation with Huawei and independent R&D. The HYPTEC A800 is equipped with Huawei Xiangkang Intelligent Driving ADS 4.1 and the world's highest‑specification mass‑produced 896‑line LiDAR, enabling full‑domain perception coverage and supporting valet parking assist and three‑point‑turn urban intelligent driving functions. The HYPTEC HL is equipped with the upgraded ADiGO Pilot NDA 4.0 high‑level intelligent driving system, with LiDAR and the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin‑X chip as standard across all models, supporting mapless navigation with over 99% full‑scene coverage. The HYPTEC S600 is equipped with the ADiGO GSD system—powered by Momenta's R6 large model—with high‑level intelligent driving capability included at no extra cost. In the second half of 2025, the HYPTEC A800 obtained an L3‑level specific‑scenario autonomous driving road test licence, with L3 mass‑production capability ready.

Powertrain. HYPTEC is pursuing both pure electric and extended‑range routes. In August 2025, HYPTEC launched its self‑developed "Xingyuan Extended Range" technology, first deployed on the HYPTEC HL extended‑range version and subsequently rolled out across the A800 and other models. The technology uses a "large battery, small tank" architecture, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 220‑350 km and a combined range exceeding 1,200 km, addressing the "low‑EV‑feel" pain point of traditional extended‑range models. On the pure electric side, HYPTEC models support 800V/5C ultra‑fast charging, adding 200‑265 km or more of range in five minutes—placing replenishment efficiency among the industry's top tier. The HYPTEC A800's three‑motor, four‑wheel‑drive smart digital chassis can actively allocate power across front, rear, left, and right wheels, completing zero‑to‑hundred power allocation within 10 milliseconds, making it the most technically advanced mass‑produced chassis system in the GAC Group.

Safety and Battery Technology. HYPTEC has established the "Xingling Safety Protection System"—a top‑level safety architecture covering collision safety, intelligent driving safety, night safety, battery safety, and detail safety. The high‑voltage Magazine Battery 2.0 technology has successfully passed gunfire testing stricter than the new national standard for needle puncture, setting a new industry benchmark for battery safety. The HYPTEC HL features a "Super Strong Titanium Cage Steel‑Aluminium Hybrid Body," with key joints using integrated die‑cast aluminium parts, certified to 2024 C‑NCAP 5‑star safety standards. The HYPTEC HT also earned a "3G+" safety rating in C‑IASI testing, among the highest in its class.

Platform Development. HYPTEC has established a platform matrix covering mid‑size sedans, mid‑to‑large SUVs, sports SUVs, and supercars. This includes the A800's new digital AI architecture platform, the HL series' Shanhai architecture design concept and smart digital chassis platform, and the S600's sport‑oriented high‑performance platform.

Global Footprint

HYPTEC's global strategy is anchored in Southeast Asia as its core fulcrum, radiating to the nine ASEAN countries while gradually expanding into the Middle East, Europe, and other markets.

Thailand is HYPTEC's top global priority. HYPTEC has already established a complete channel system in Thailand, with 50 sales outlets and plans to expand to 100 by 2025. In Thailand, HYPTEC has also built an intelligent factory, achieving 45% local parts integration by 2024, and is set to become one of HYPTEC's seven global production and sales bases in the future. On the replenishment front, HYPTEC is the first Chinese automaker to go overseas with its own self‑built charging network—it has planned and constructed a large‑scale super‑charging network in Thailand, aiming to cover 200 super‑charging stations across the country by 2027. The HYPTEC HT is priced at approximately 1.449‑1.749 million Thai baht in Thailand and has stabilised as the top seller in the high‑end pure electric market above 1.4 million Thai baht.

In other Southeast Asian markets, HYPTEC has entered Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In 2025, HYPTEC also signed an agency sales agreement with Anlie Automobile to enter the Polish market, gradually expanding into the Middle East and Europe.

The HYPTEC SSR export has become the "highest unit price" record in Chinese car export history, achieving phased sales results during the Thailand Auto Show, with plans to continue expanding into the Middle East, South America, and Europe, accelerating the premium globalisation process. GAC HYPTEC CEO Ma Haiyang plans to progressively import models to Vietnam, Singapore, and other ASEAN countries, as well as European and Middle Eastern regional markets.

Future Outlook

At the end of 2025, GAC Group launched independent brand BU reform. HYPTEC AION BU was the first to complete its organisational formation, with the two brands incorporated into the same business unit for unified operations. Under the plan, by March 31, 2026, HYPTEC and AION will complete full channel integration, achieving 100% coverage of national tier‑four and above cities, with a sales and service network exceeding 1,000 outlets—HYPTEC's service network is expected to grow from approximately 200 to over 1,000.

On the product side, HYPTEC has officially announced its entry into the "New Luxury 2.0 Era," adhering to a "user‑centred" brand philosophy, continuously advancing EV platform architecture iteration, developing AI digital cockpit systems, and upgrading multi‑modal interaction experiences. HYPTEC plans to draw on GAC Group's "unlimited" resource investment over the next three years to continuously refine its full‑category product lines—sedans, SUVs, sports cars—and actively develop next‑generation L3‑level and above autonomous driving technology. New models planned for 2026 include the new luxury smart sports SUV HYPTEC S600 and the production version of the Shanghai Auto Show concept car Earth.

In overseas markets, HYPTEC will further deepen its Southeast Asian presence centred on Thailand, planning to build a 200‑station super‑charging network across Thailand by 2027, while expanding into the Middle East and Europe, aiming to establish HYPTEC as a globally competitive Chinese high‑end new energy brand. Over the longer term, HYPTEC will continue to serve as the flagship of GAC Group's brand premiumisation—technology‑driven, user‑centred—and continue its upward trajectory amid the broader upgrade of China's automotive industry.
