GAC Trumpchi GS3 Emzoom

2026-10-06 22:20:00

The GAC Trumpchi GS3 Emzoom (marketed in China as the "Trumpchi GS3 Yingsu") is an entry-level B-segment compact crossover SUV from GAC Trumpchi. Built on GAC's GPMA modular architecture, the model is targeted at trendy urban youths. In its domestic market, the official price range for the 2025 Trumpchi GS3 Yingsu is RM85,800 to RM108,800. In export markets, the GS3 Emzoom serves as a key strategic model and is offered as a locally assembled (CKD) vehicle in countries such as Malaysia. Its primary rivals include compact crossovers like the Geely Binyue and Nissan Kicks.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the GS3 Emzoom is bold and progressive, drawing inspiration from a "mecha" aesthetic and showcasing GAC's latest design philosophy with futuristic industrial cues and sharp geometric lines. Up front, it features what the brand calls the "Flying Fighter Mecha Face", characterised by an imposing front grille available in two distinct patterns. Flush, pop-out electric door handles are a key exterior highlight, lending it a clean, concept-car-like profile. At the rear, twin exhaust tips on both flanks further enhance its sporty credentials. Dimension-wise, it measures 4,410 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, riding on a 2,650 mm wheelbase. Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound layout, with the infotainment touchscreen angled slightly towards the driver.

Powertrain and Performance

The GS3 Emzoom is powered across the range by GAC's Mega Wave Power third-generation 1.5-litre direct-injected (GDI) four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This unit puts out a maximum output of 130 kW (around 177 hp) and a peak torque of 270 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The official 0–100 km/h century sprint is completed in 7.5 to 8 seconds, while rated combined fuel consumption under WLTC stands at 6.18 L/100 km.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the GS3 Emzoom adopts a segment-standard setup comprising a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam semi-independent suspension. The chassis setup is primarily tuned for ride comfort, effectively soaking up minor road undulations and rough patches in urban commuting. Meanwhile, the suspension delivers adequate body control and stability when tackling successive corners and demanding road conditions. The vehicle comes strictly in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration.

Cabin and Equipment

Inside, the GS3 Emzoom comes standard with a 10.25-inch floating central infotainment touchscreen, which is upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen on higher variants. The head unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, with select range-topping variants adding HUAWEI HiCar support. Upper-spec models also gain a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Depending on the variant, other comfort and convenience amenities include 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, a wireless smartphone charger, and ambient lighting.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

In terms of safety, the GS3 Emzoom comes fitted with four to six airbags depending on the trim level. Higher variants are equipped with a comprehensive suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) , and Auto High Beam (AHB) , among others. Furthermore, the crossover comes with a 360-degree surround-view monitor and a transparent underbody display.

Market Performance and Verdict

The Trumpchi GS3 Emzoom (Yingsu) has posted impressive market figures. In March 2025, its monthly sales reached 7,642 units, placing it among the top three best-sellers in the compact SUV segment. Positioned as a high-value domestic SUV, its core strengths lie in its punchy 1.5-litre turbo mill that outclasses most segment peers in output figures, its 4,410 mm length and 2,650 mm wheelbase that afford class-leading rear legroom, and the availability of Level 2 ADAS on higher trims, which remains uncommon at this price point. However, specification packaging varies between model years, with certain 2025 variants seeing minor revisions in infotainment and comfort equipment compared to earlier range-toppers. On the whole, the Trumpchi GS3 Emzoom is a well-rounded compact crossover delivering a solid balance of performance, cabin roominess, and tech features, making it a compelling option for young buyers seeking practicality infused with a modern tech appeal.
