Targeted at younger buyers, the model highlights sporty styling, versatile powertrain options, and high-tech features as its key selling propositions.
Design Language
The Changan Oshan Z6 incorporates a design philosophy officially termed "Prism Aesthetics". Up front, it features a dual-layer overlapping grille with a borderless design, flanked by triangular air intake ducts and serrated accents that deliver an aggressive, muscular presence. The headlamp setup employs a quasi-split layout, where the upper daytime running lights (DRLs) and the lower LED headlamp clusters are separated by chrome garnishes, seamlessly merging with the black trim flanking the grille. Along the sides, a floating roof design paired with a fastback roofline gives it a distinctive coupe-SUV silhouette. At the rear, it sports a prominent hollowed-out roof spoiler and quad exhaust finishers. Dimension-wise, the SUV measures 4,699 mm (or 4,730 mm) long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,660 mm (or 1,680 mm) tall, with a generous 2,795 mm wheelbase. Inside, the cabin features a triple-screen layout finished in predominantly black upholstery with contrasting red accents to accentuate its sporty character.
Powertrain and Performance
The Changan Oshan Z6 offers a choice of multiple powertrains. The petrol lineup is powered by Blue Core series 1.5T and 2.0T turbocharged engines. The 1.5T unit puts out 138 kW (188 PS) and 300 Nm of torque, whilst the 2.0T powerplant delivers 171 kW (233 PS) and 390 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) for the 1.5T and an 8-speed torque-converter automatic for the 2.0T. The 2.0T variant completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.67 seconds. The plug-in hybrid version (Smart Electric iDD) combines a 1.5T turbo engine with an electric motor, with the engine developing 125 kW and 260 Nm, and the electric drive motor delivering 110 kW and 330 Nm. Together, the hybrid setup delivers a total system output of 240 kW and 530 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed triple-clutch electric drive transmission. Energy is stored in a 28.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a pure electric range of 150 km (NEDC) and a total combined range of up to 1,200 km, with an NEDC combined fuel consumption rating of just 0.7 L/100 km.
Chassis and Handling
Underneath, the Changan Oshan Z6 is built on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. It is suspended by a MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear, accompanied by electric power steering (EPS). Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs upfront and solid discs at the rear, complete with an electronic parking brake (EPB). Higher-spec variants ride on 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/50 R20 tyres. Drivers can also toggle between selectable drive modes to suit various road conditions, with the chassis tuned to strike a balance between ride comfort and driving dynamics.
Cabin and Features
Inside, the Changan Oshan Z6 comes equipped with the OnStyle 5.0 (5.1 on higher-spec trims) intelligent cockpit system. The dashboard showcases a multi-screen linked setup consisting of a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, and a 9.2-inch Smart "Xiao Ou" display. Higher variants can be optioned with an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) to create a "six-screen interconnected" experience. The infotainment system supports voice command, facial recognition, gesture controls, and gaze-activated wake-up. It also includes a "YYDS" virtual digital avatar feature, enabling owners to clone family members' voices for interactive voice prompts. For seating comfort, the driver gets an 8-way powered seat whilst the front passenger enjoys 4-way adjustment, alongside seat ventilation, heating, and memory functions. Boot capacity can be expanded up to a massive 1,425 litres.
Safety and Driver Assistance
In the safety department, the Changan Oshan Z6 is equipped with passive protection including front, side, and curtain airbags. Active safety systems across the range include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA/BAS), Traction Control (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). For driver assistance, a 540-degree panoramic camera system (with transparent underbody view) is standard across all variants. Higher-spec models benefit from the EaglePilot 7.0 voice-activated automated valet parking system, which supports voice-guided parking, remote summon, and private lot memory parking. In addition, the vehicle is fitted with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), bundling full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA). A driver fatigue monitoring system comes standard on all variants.
Market Performance and Verdict
Following its launch, the Changan Oshan Z6 experienced a strong initial sales run before seeing a gradual slowdown. In 2023, the Oshan Z6 iDD registered total annual sales of 32,494 units, followed by a monthly retail volume of 1,825 units in November 2024. Moving into 2025, sales recorded a noticeable dip, clocking 1,516 units in January and falling to 517 units in February. On the owner feedback front, drivers widely praise its striking, sporty design, generous cabin space (thanks to the 2,795 mm wheelbase offering ample rear legroom), and extensive tech kit. The punchy 2.0T+8AT drivetrain combination has also drawn widespread acclaim. On the other hand, some owners have pointed out minor suspension clunks over rough surfaces, noticeable new car interior odours, relatively high fuel consumption during high-speed highway cruising, and occasional shift hesitation from the transmission on certain variants. Overall, leveraging its core strengths of "sporty styling, versatile powertrains, and an intelligent cockpit", the Changan Oshan Z6 has carved out a solid niche in the RM100,000-bracket compact SUV market thanks to its compelling value for money.
