Car anti-collision strips (Automotive Anti-Collision Strips / Body Side Mouldings) refer to protective trim pieces fitted to impact-prone areas such as door panels, front and rear bumper corners, and wing mirror edges. Typically fabricated from soft rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), polyurethane (PU), or high-polymer PVC, these practical exterior accessories are widely used to safeguard vehicle paintwork against minor scuffs and dings when parking in tight spaces or opening doors.
Based on their mounting locations, functions, and attachment methods, car anti-collision strips are generally categorised into the following main types:
Door edge guards and body side mouldings (Door Edge Guards & Side Moulding Strips):
Fitted along the most prominent horizontal character lines or outer edges of vehicle doors, these are typically crafted from high-elasticity rubber or flexible plastic. They effectively cushion impacts when doors are opened against adjacent cars, walls, or pillars, preventing unsightly paint chips and sheet metal dents.
Bumper corner and wing mirror protectors (Bumper Corners & Mirror Protectors):
These contoured protective guards are purpose-designed for vulnerable blind spots, including the four corners of front and rear bumpers, wheel arch edges, and wing mirror housings. Offering substantial impact cushioning, they protect against frequent corner scrapes during low-speed manoeuvres and reverse parking.
Although anti-collision strips are low-risk exterior accessories, their adhesive application, material choice, and placement must still adhere strictly to relevant physical constraints and safety standards:
Strictly avoid interfering with door drainage holes and weather seals (Drainage & Sealing Integrity):
Door protectors must be aligned with precision during installation. They must never obstruct or cover the factory drainage holes at the bottom of the door, nor compromise the surrounding rubber weatherstripping. Blocking these outlets can trap rainwater inside the door cavity, risking electrical short circuits and rust to the inner door panels.
Ensure clearance for radar sensors and structural safety zones (Sensor & Side Airbag Clearance):
Protective strips affixed to bumpers and body panels must never obstruct or obscure the operating field of Park Distance Control (PDC) sensors, ultrasonic sensors, or Blind Spot Detection (BSD) radar units. Furthermore, aftermarket exterior protectors must not alter the vehicle body's original crash energy dissipation paths, ensuring that factory crumple zones function as designed in the event of a collision.
