Bollinger Motors is an American electric vehicle manufacturer, founded by Robert Bollinger in 2015, headquartered in Oak Park, Michigan. The brand started with pure electric hardcore off-road models, focusing on the B1 electric SUV and B2 electric pickup. In 2024, its strategic focus shifted to commercial electric trucks, launching the B4 class electric chassis truck, but later closed at the end of 2025 due to a broken capital chain. As of April 2026, it has entered the asset liquidation auction stage. The founder repurchased the B1/B2 intellectual property and prototypes for less than $250,000.

Development History

Founder Robert Bollinger comes from the advertising industry, holds a degree in industrial design from Carnegie Mellon University, and entered the off-road electric vehicle manufacturing industry after accumulating capital in the hair care industry. Bollinger Motors was established in 2015, the B1 all-electric SUV was released in 2017, and the B2 all-electric pickup was released in 2018. The two models had highly similar angular boxy designs, with both pre-sale prices at $125,000.

Mass production was repeatedly delayed, originally planned for 2020, extended to 2021. In September 2022, Mullen Automotive acquired the majority stake in Bollinger Motors. In July 2024, a former General Motors executive was hired as CEO. In September 2024, the B4 class electric chassis truck production line officially started. The company closed at the end of November 2025. In May 2026, B4 inventory and manufacturing equipment were liquidated and auctioned.

Product Portfolio

The product matrix saw a fundamental watershed moment in 2024.

Early Consumer Models (B1/B2, both indefinitely shelved): B1 is a four-door all-electric SUV, B2 is a four-door all-electric pickup. The two vehicles share the same dimensions and powertrain configuration, equipped with dual motors (615 hp / 900 N·m), 0-96 km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds, top speed 161 km/h. Equipped with a 120kWh battery pack, range approximately 322 kilometers. Ground clearance 381 mm, wheelhouse portal gear axle drives provide excellent off-road capability, through-stowage slots in the front and rear compartments are a unique highlight, but due to the overly minimalist interior, it failed to match the $125,000 price tag and was never mass-produced.

Commercial Series (B4/B5/B6): B4 is a Class 4 electric chassis truck, focusing on last-mile delivery, construction site services, and special operations. B5 (Class 5) planned for 2026 and the planned B6 also remained at the roadmap stage.

Market Performance

B1/B2 never entered mass production, zero deliveries. Commercial B4 achieved mass production in September 2024, 2 units were delivered to Larsen Enterprises in September 2025; The dealer network established over 50 outlets, achieving approximately $1.07 million in sales that year, but far from sufficient to sustain operations. The company was actually closed at the end of November 2025, only about 20 B4s were manufactured, which have become liquidation assets.

Core Technology

E-Chassis Modular Electric Platform (Patent Pending): Based on a body-on-frame design, 120-180kWh battery pack laid flat on the center of the chassis, independent front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors (each capable of independent output), all-wheel drive, high ground clearance, significantly enhanced recovery performance through portal gear wheel hub kits. Front double wishbone suspension with automatic balancing function, standard hydraulic anti-lock braking, electronic traction and stability control systems.

Global Presence

Company operations and production capacity are highly concentrated in the United States. In 2024, B4 was produced using Roush Livonia, Michigan plant's contract manufacturing services. Parent company Mullen also owns complete vehicle factories in Tunica, Mississippi and Mishawaka, Indiana. Starting from 2026, original Mullen brand Class 1 and Class 3 commercial vehicles were planned to be re-branded with Bollinger badges for sale, but with the company liquidation, there was no actual progress. The brand never entered other overseas markets.

Future Outlook

As of April 2026, Bollinger Motors has entered the final liquidation stage. The bankruptcy court ruled to auction all remaining assets to pay supplier debts. Founder Robert Bollinger privately purchased the intellectual property and prototypes of B1 and B2 from the company for less than $250,000, retaining a sliver of possibility for brand revival. The rise and fall of Bollinger Motors reflects the harsh reality of many small and medium-sized new automotive forces: possessing unique technical concepts and design languages, but the capital threshold for full-process investment far exceeds expectations, ultimately becoming a typical case of heavy asset manufacturing facing extreme pressure on cash flow.
