Baoqi Automobile is a Chinese new energy logistics vehicle brand affiliated with Huali Group. It is composed of two main operating entities: Zhejiang Baoqi Automobile Co., Ltd. and Wuhu Baoqi Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Established in 2011, the brand was formerly the New Energy Vehicle Division of Huali Group. It is located in the Nanling Economic Development Zone in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, with a registered capital of 50 million RMB. The current production area covers 146 mu, featuring 40,000 square meters of joint workshops. The facility is capable of welding, painting, assembly, production, and testing for an annual output of 30,000 new energy logistics vehicles.
Wuhu Baoqi is a first-level subsidiary controlled by Huali Group, jointly invested and established by Huali Group and Anhui Yaxia Group. Positioned as a "Smart Logistics Solutions Provider," the brand focuses on the new energy special vehicle field. Its core business covers the R&D and manufacturing of pure electric box trucks, pure electric van logistics vehicles, and semitrailers, having occupied an important position in the new energy logistics vehicle sub-market.
Baoqi's origins can be traced back to 2009. At that time, the New Energy Vehicle Division of Huali Group collaborated with the US company ZAP, successfully developing a pure electric SUV with a top speed of 160 km/h, completing technical exploration in the new energy vehicle field. On October 27, 2011, Wuhu Baoqi Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was officially registered at the Nanzhang County Market Supervision Administration, Anhui Province, marking the entry of Baoqi's vehicle manufacturing business into a standardized phase.
2014 was a key year for the development of the Baoqi brand. The company obtained special vehicle production qualifications in September of that year, new energy special vehicle (logistics vehicle) qualifications in November, and launched the first internet electric logistics vehicle "Zhiqi" in June of the same year, using this as a breakthrough to fully enter the new energy vehicle industry. In June 2015, Baoqi products began mass market launch, achieving sales of 250 vehicles that month, ranking first in national new energy special vehicle sub-market monthly production and sales, accumulating second place from January to June, with annual production and sales of about 2,000 vehicles, achieving sales revenue of about 245 million yuan, ranking ninth nationally. In the same year, the two models "Zhiqi" and "Jinqi" received the honorary title of "2015 City Logistics Recommended Vehicle" issued by China Transport Association.
In 2016, Baoqi welcomed the highlight moment of its brand. In July of the same year, 15 Baoqi pure electric logistics vehicles were officially delivered to serve the Hangzhou G20 Summit, used for logistics support during the summit, becoming a landmark appearance of the brand at national-level important events. After the summit, Baoqi reached strategic cooperation with mainstream express companies such as China Post, SF Express, YTO Express, and ZTO Express, establishing its market position in the express logistics industry.
Baoqi's product line focuses on city logistics "last mile" solutions, with pure electric drive as the core, totaling four main models: Zhiqi (discontinued), Jinqi (discontinued), Hongyuan Paipai, and Shuaiqi.
Zhiqi: Baoqi's first internet electric logistics vehicle, launched in June 2014. Body dimensions are 3.65m x 1.51m x 1.85m, with a wheelbase of 2415mm, belonging to the small box truck category. It is equipped with an AC asynchronous motor in a rear-mounted, rear-drive layout. The curb weight is only 950 kg, with a rated load capacity of 350 kg. The range is about 200 km, top speed is 75 km/h, and maximum cargo space is about 2.3 cubic meters. The body uses an all-aluminum alloy frame, and the box body uses new magic crystal board material. It is equipped with rearview radar, voice prompts, central control door locks, electric windows, electronic power steering (EPS), and other features.
Jinqi: Belonging to the logistics vehicle class above 1 ton, it is superior to Zhiqi in both body size and loading capacity. It is equipped with an AC asynchronous motor with a rated power of 16 kW, peak power of 32 kW, and maximum torque of 180 N·m, reaching a top speed of 80 km/h. The battery uses a Zhejiang Tianneng ternary lithium battery pack with a capacity of 35.4 kWh, offering a CLTC range of 185 km. After discontinuation, Jinqi still had a high-range version equipped with a 48.7 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 285 km.
Shuaiqi: A pure electric micro truck with the announcement model WXS5022XXYBEV01. It adopts a 4x2 drive form, has a wheelbase of 2500mm, a body length of 3.65m, a total mass of 1.63 tons, and a peak power of 20 kW. It is equipped with a Tianneng ternary lithium battery and supports slow charging mode, with a range of 203 km. The Shuaiqi electric micro truck once provided a reference price configuration of 99,800 RMB.
Hongyuan Paipai: Belonging to the early product line along with Zhiqi and Jinqi, it entered the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology vehicle directory and has product announcements.
2015 was the year with the most prominent market performance for Baoqi. The first month after mass market launch in June that year reached sales of 250 vehicles, ranking first in the national new energy special vehicle sub-market; cumulative sales from January to June ranked second; annual production and sales about 2,000 vehicles, achieving sales revenue about 245 million yuan, ranking ninth nationally. Promoted by strategic cooperation with mainstream express companies such as SF Express, China Post, and YTO Express, Baoqi established brand awareness in last-mile logistics delivery vehicles.
The brand also attempted to enter the passenger vehicle field, successively obtaining "Zhongqi" large and medium-sized bus production qualifications, and becoming the core leading enterprise of Huali Group Smart Logistics Research Institute (Provincial Enterprise Research Institute) and Huali Group Postdoctoral Workstation (Research Station). Public sales data shows that Baoqi Automobiles' subsequent performance in the mainstream market was limited, many models were discontinued, and there was no obvious presence in the passenger car market. Since 2016, Baoqi's market voice in new energy logistics vehicles has gradually weakened, and information on some models remains in the discontinued state. Overall, Baoqi experienced the highlight moment of industry sales between 2015 and 2016, but the development momentum did not continue afterwards.
Baoqi Automobiles' technology system is built around the two main lines of "Intelligentization + Lightweighting", forming differentiated technical characteristics in vehicle integration, onboard intelligent systems, and lightweight material applications.
Smart Logistics: The company independently developed an integrated "Smart Logistics" system, composed of user-side mobile APP "KuaiDi BaoBei", vehicle-side system "WuLiu BaoBei", and backend management system. Couriers can achieve automatic order grabbing, automatic optimal route planning, automatic parcel scanning, real-time monitoring of vehicle and cargo information, and interaction with senders and receivers through vehicle terminals; the user-side supports viewing nearby couriers, booking and filling out shipping forms, real-time tracking of parcel location, and freely changing delivery/pickup time, etc., turning traditional logistics vehicles into smart logistics vehicles with full-process information management capabilities.
All-Aluminum Body and Lightweight Technology: Baoqi is one of the logistics vehicle manufacturers in China to explore all-aluminum body and plastic outer covering technology earliest, and also one of the most lightweight logistics vehicles in the domestic industry at that time. Body structure adopts skeletonless and space frame design, with aluminum extrusion profiles as the main body, compared with traditional steel bodies, total mass reduced by 150 kg, body mass reduced by about 23%, mechanical performance improved by about 40%. Cargo box uses honeycomb core composite material outer plate, possessing characteristics of light weight, high toughness, good strength, moisture and rust resistance, etc.
Power Control System Integration Technology: Baoqi adopts independently developed high-integration control technology in power control, achieving collaborative optimization of drive motor, vehicle controller, and battery management system, improving whole vehicle energy efficiency and driving stability. Motor suppliers include brands such as Dadihe, Praga, Dawoshi, etc., adopting AC asynchronous motor or permanent magnet synchronous motor solutions, cooperating with ternary lithium battery packs to provide different range configurations from 185 to 285 km.
Production Qualifications and R&D System: Successively obtained new energy special vehicle, traditional special vehicle, and Zhongqi large and medium-sized bus production qualifications. Its subsidiary Hangzhou Praga New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. holds nearly 30 patents (including 2 invention patents), recognized as a Hangzhou City High-tech Enterprise, Eagle Baby Enterprise, and passed ISO9001 quality system certification. Wuhu Baoqi was also rated as a National High-tech Enterprise and member of the National Torch Program, holding over 10 utility model patents.
Baoqi Automobiles' overseas business layout is limited, and relevant information is relatively scarce. As early as the early development strategy, the brand leveraged the supply chain cooperation relationships accumulated by Huali Group in the global electronics manufacturing and new energy fields to lay the foundation for technology going global and parts support, but specific records about bulk vehicle exports are relatively limited in public information. As a new energy special vehicle manufacturer, Baoqi prefers to focus on the local express logistics market, and overseas expansion is not the brand's main strategic direction. The brand's participation in mainstream export data and international auto show appearances is relatively low.
Baoqi has not systematically disclosed its long-term strategy or future roadmap. Since its participation in the 2016 G20 Summit and the establishment of strategic partnerships with major express delivery companies, the brand's presence in the logistics vehicle market has steadily declined. Data from mainstream automotive platforms indicates that several of its models are now marked as "discontinued," and the capacity utilization at its Wuhu production base—designed for an annual output of 30,000 units—appears to be significantly underutilized.
Nevertheless, Baoqi continues to maintain a certain level of operational capability, supported by the Huali Group’s ongoing investment in the new energy sector and the R&D resources of the Provincial Enterprise Research Institute. As the core entity of the Huali Group’s Smart Logistics Research Institute and the lead enterprise for the Postdoctoral Workstation, Baoqi retains valuable technical reserves and production qualifications that offer potential for revitalization. Looking ahead, the brand may pivot back to building a "Smart Logistics Ecosystem." This strategy would evolve from its initial "Internet New Energy Logistics Vehicle" products to include software and value-added services, eventually expanding into O2O specialized vehicles and personalized customization. However, in an increasingly competitive new energy logistics market, the success of this transition will depend heavily on sustained capital investment, robust product iteration, and agile market strategy adjustments.
