Model Overview

The BYD Yuan PLUS is a compact all-electric SUV under the BYD Dynasty Series and marks the brand's first strategic global passenger car for international markets. As of May 2026, its cumulative global sales have surpassed 1.1 million units, spanning across 116 countries and regions worldwide. On 21 May 2026, the third-generation Yuan PLUS officially made its debut with 4 variants, priced between RM119,900 and RM149,900. Built on the upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo and competing in the A-segment pure electric SUV market, its key rivals include the Toyota bZ3X, AION Y, and Geely Galaxy E5.

In terms of dimensions, the third-generation Yuan PLUS has grown all round, measuring 4665×1895×1675mm with a 2770mm wheelbase. It provides a 180L front boot (frunk) alongside a 750L rear boot, significantly boosting cargo and storage practicalities.

Design Language

The third-generation Yuan PLUS retains BYD's signature Dynasty "Dragon Face" design philosophy, adopting a sleeker and sportier aesthetic. Up front, a full-width silver trim piece integrates seamlessly with the slim, smoked LED headlamp clusters, accentuating the front fascia's visual width. Along the flanks, a newly sculpted dynamic waistline paired with a floating roof design creates an aggressive, forward-leaning stance.

Round the back, the redesigned "Energy Loop" full-width LED taillights incorporate traditional Chinese knot motifs, complemented by a high-mounted brake lamp for instant visual recognition at night. The new EV is offered in 9 exterior finishes, comprising 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone colour schemes, including Dream Pink and Trendy Blue.

Inside, the cabin adopts a fresh "Flowing Eco-Cockpit" architecture. The symmetrical, minimalist dashboard layout is highlighted by a multi-layered 3D curved floating centre console, a new twin-spoke steering wheel, and a column-mounted electronic gear shifter, markedly elevating interior refinement and space efficiency. The cabin provides 39 storage compartments and debuts a "Queen Co-Pilot" zero-gravity front passenger seat complete with an electric leg rest.

Powertrain and Performance

The powertrain represents one of the core upgrades in this generational revamp. Moving away from the front-wheel-drive layout, the entire lineup has transitioned to a single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration. Two output versions are available: the 540km range variant is powered by a 200kW motor, while the 630km variant gets a 240kW motor, with the latter completing the 0-100 km/h century sprint in the 6-second range.

On the battery and charging front, all variants come standard with BYD's second-generation LFP Blade Battery, available in 57.545kWh and 68.547kWh capacities. These deliver CLTC combined ranges of 540km and 630km respectively—a notable increase over the previous generation's maximum of 510km. Operating on an 800V high-voltage platform with standard flash-charging technology, official figures claim that charging from 10% to 97% takes just 9 minutes at room temperature, fulfilling the promise of "ready in 5 minutes, fully charged in 9". Even in extreme low-temperature conditions of -30°C, charging performance remains virtually uncompromised.

Chassis and Handling

To complement the more potent rear-wheel-drive dynamics, the chassis system has also undergone a comprehensive overhaul. The entire lineup comes standard with a four-wheel independent suspension layout featuring a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear five-link independent suspension, substantially elevating handling limits and ride stability. High-spec models are also fitted with the DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System, which automatically softens damping on uneven roads to enhance comfort and stiffens during high-speed cornering to suppress body roll.

Furthermore, the SUV integrates the iTAC 2.0 Intelligent Torque Control System, evolving from reactive correction to proactive control to effectively reduce wheel slip and tail-sliding during launch or wet-weather cornering. In addition, the standard TBC high-speed tyre blowout stability system across the range helps maintain vehicle trajectory under extreme blowout conditions, further bolstering driving safety.

Cabin and Equipment

Technology-wise, the third-generation Yuan PLUS is equipped with the latest DiLink 5.0 intelligent cockpit system and comes standard with a 50W air-cooled wireless smartphone fast charger. Depending on the variant, the infotainment is displayed on either a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch adaptive rotating floating central screen. The system supports four-zone voice recognition, 3D vehicle control, and related smart features.

For comfort amenities, all variants except the entry-level model come standard with electrically adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats. The new SUV also introduces several class-above premium appointments, such as a smart hot/cold box, a 16-speaker premium audio system, 256-colour ambient lighting, a W-HUD head-up display, and a dedicated front passenger "Inspiration Playhouse" storage unit.

Safety and Driver Assistance

In terms of safety, the third-generation Yuan PLUS adopts a high-rigidity cage body structure with 85% high-strength steel and comes standard with 7 airbags across the board. Driver assistance also sees a major leap: all variants beyond the entry-level trim come standard with or optionally offer advanced ADAS suites. The baseline configuration is the "God's Eye C - Tri-focal Assisted Driving Version" (DiPilot 100) with 29 sensors, supporting Highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) and all-scenario automated parking. High-spec models can be optioned with the roof-mounted LiDAR-equipped "God's Eye B - LiDAR Assisted Driving Version" (DiPilot 300), which enables urban and highway navigation pilot assistance without relying on high-definition maps, complete with continuous learning and OTA upgrade capabilities.

Market Performance and Verdict

As BYD's key global strategic model, the Yuan PLUS occupies a commanding market position. In 2024, its annual sales in China reached 275,000 units; in 2025, the second-generation model defended its title as the annual sales champion in the A-segment pure electric SUV class with 164,000 units delivered. However, entering 2026, intense market rivalry alongside product overlap from BYD's own expanding lineup led to a temporary sales decline, with Q1 figures dipping year-on-year. Nevertheless, consumers continue to value its reliable EV powertrain, solid safety reputation, and low maintenance costs underpinned by high global production volumes. With the arrival of this third-generation model, previous shortcomings in cabin space, charging speed, driving dynamics, and smart features have been thoroughly resolved, re-establishing its benchmark position in the RM100,000 to RM150,000 pure electric SUV segment.
