2026-08-15 22:50:00

Brand Overview

BAIC RUIXIANG is a car brand jointly established in 2021 by the Chongqing Municipal Government, the Hechuan District Government, and BAIC Group. Its headquarters are in Chongqing, and its operating entity is BAIC RUIXIANG Automobile Co., Ltd., established on April 23, 2021. The brand represents a new benchmark created through the collaboration of the two levels of Chongqing government and BAIC Group to drive industrial transformation and upgrade in Chongqing's automotive sector, achieve high‑quality development, optimise BAIC Group's strategic layout, and expand its industrial footprint.

BAIC RUIXIANG's brand positioning spans both fuel and new energy vehicles, with a product line covering SUVs, MPVs, and commercial vehicles. Its core development policy is the "Three Parallel" strategy: parallel development of passenger and commercial vehicles, traditional and new energy powertrains, and domestic and overseas markets.

The brand's predecessor was BAIC Yinxiang, a full‑vehicle enterprise jointly established by BAIC Group and Chongqing Yinxiang Industrial Group in 2010. BAIC Yinxiang once launched brands such as Huansu, with annual sales approaching 300,000 units, but fell into a production halt crisis in 2018 due to operational difficulties. In August 2019, under the leadership of the Chongqing Municipal Government, BAIC Group reached a strategic restructuring agreement with Chongqing Yinxiang. After the restructuring plan was approved by the court, BAIC Yinxiang completed its bankruptcy reorganisation in April 2021 and was renamed BAIC RUIXIANG.

On key personnel and ownership, following the restructuring, BAIC Group holds 25.99% as the largest shareholder, CDB Development Fund holds 12.65%, and the Chongqing Yinxiang group holds 61.35%, making it the actual controlling shareholder. Since the 2021 restructuring, the company has completed the launch of its first SUV, the roll‑off of its first commercial vehicle, the roll‑off of its first new energy vehicle, and the launch of a second SUV within two years, while simultaneously expanding overseas markets—demonstrating high market implementation efficiency.

Development History

Predecessor Stage: The Rise and Fall of BAIC Yinxiang (2010–2018). BAIC Yinxiang was a full‑vehicle enterprise established by BAIC Group and Chongqing Yinxiang Industrial Group in 2010, with BAIC Group holding approximately 26%, Yinxiang Industry roughly 61.4%, and the CDB Development Fund around 12.6%. Before 2014, BAIC Yinxiang primarily produced models under the BAIC brand. Starting in 2014, it launched the Huansu brand. Relying on a precise layout and low‑price strategy in the SUV and MPV markets, BAIC Yinxiang's annual sales climbed from about 50,000 units in 2014 to a peak of 300,000 units in 2017, once creating an industry record of "selling 600,000 cars in three years" in the history of Chinese brand cars, becoming a dark horse in the market. However, the models under BAIC Yinxiang followed a low‑price, low‑quality route. As the 2018 automotive market shake‑out arrived, brands such as Huansu and Bisu were hit first, and market share plummeted. Subsequently, BAIC Yinxiang continued to face negative developments—capital chain rupture, employee leave, factory stoppage, and dealer rights protection—and its operations fell into comprehensive difficulty.

Restructuring and Renaming Period (2019–2021). In April 2019, BAIC Yinxiang officially announced its restructuring. Later that year, in August, led by the Chongqing Municipal Government, a strategic restructuring agreement was reached with BAIC Group, deciding to carry out the restructuring of BAIC Yinxiang. In September 2020, the Fifth Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing accepted the restructuring applications for BAIC Yinxiang Automobile Co., Ltd. and Chongqing BAIC Huansu Automobile Sales Co., respectively. In May 2021, the court approved the restructuring plan. On April 23, 2021, BAIC Yinxiang was officially renamed BAIC RUIXIANG Automobile Co., Ltd. The restructured BAIC RUIXIANG underwent a full rejuvenation in name and organisational structure, though the shareholder structure and related subsidiaries did not change substantially.

Brand Launch and Product Implementation Period (2021–2022). On June 12, 2021, BAIC RUIXIANG officially launched the brand at the Chongqing Auto Show. The first SUV model, the BAIC RUIXIANG X5, was unveiled with a new car logo and exterior design. In 2022, BAIC RUIXIANG continued to push product implementation: the second SUV, the BAIC RUIXIANG X3, officially launched; the first commercial vehicle rolled off the line; and the first new energy vehicle rolled off. On June 25 of the same year, BAIC RUIXIANG launched its new energy strategy under the theme "Gathering Momentum, Starting Anew, Embracing the Future" at the Chongqing Auto Show. The brand's first new energy product, the Boteng V2 EV, officially launched, and the BAIC RUIXIANG X5 PHEV and C5 EV also debuted at the show, marking the brand's full‑scale entry into the new energy transformation.

Market Expansion and Strategic Adjustment Period (2022–Early 2026). Since 2022, BAIC RUIXIANG has been working simultaneously in domestic and overseas markets. Leveraging a comprehensive dealer network and overseas channels, it successfully established a foothold in markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. However, domestic passenger car sales continued to decline, and the share of main models in mainstream segments remained extremely limited. By early 2026, passenger car sales had dropped to freezing point: in February 2026, the brand sold only 15 passenger cars, with cumulative sales over the preceding 12 months totalling fewer than 300 units. In contrast, the company continued to promote its new energy transformation and OEM business, signing cooperation agreements with FinDreams Power, undertaking external brand OEM projects, and laying out a smart factory in Nanjing with an annual passenger vehicle capacity of 300,000 units.

Product Lineup

BAIC RUIXIANG's product strategy follows a dual‑track approach: parallel passenger and commercial vehicles, and parallel fuel and electric powertrains. Its product line covers SUVs, MPVs, commercial vehicles, and new energy vehicles, with main models spanning the compact and mid‑size SUV markets. The commercial vehicle series focuses on urban logistics and short‑distance transport scenarios.

BAIC RUIXIANG X5. The brand's first mass‑produced model, positioned as a mid‑size SUV, launched in 2021 with a selling price of 73,800–123,800 RMB. It measures 4,788×1,875×1,730 mm with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, and offers five‑seat and seven‑seat layouts—flexible second‑row five‑seat or third‑row seven‑seat configurations. Power comes from a 1.5T turbocharged engine delivering 156 hp and 215 N·m of torque, paired with either a 6‑speed manual or 6‑speed automatic transmission. The BAIC RUIXIANG X5 PHEV, unveiled at the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show, is the plug‑in hybrid version, equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and electric motor, paired with a 17.5 kWh battery pack offering an NEDC pure electric range of 110 km. The PHEV version signed a cooperation intention agreement with FinDreams Power under BYD, with its technology platform similar to popular models such as the BYD Song Pro. The interior adopts a white‑blue two‑tone colour scheme, with a full LCD instrument panel, three‑spoke multi‑function steering wheel, a floating centre touchscreen, and a rotary electronic gear shifter on the centre console.

BAIC RUIXIANG X3. The brand's second mass‑produced SUV model, positioned as a compact seven‑seat SUV with a selling price of 55,800–69,800 RMB, focusing on cost‑performance. It measures 4,520×1,790×1,770 mm with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, and is built for the daily travel needs of small‑ to medium‑sized business owners and freelancers in fourth‑ and fifth‑tier cities. Power is provided by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a 5‑speed manual transmission, with five‑seat and seven‑seat layout options.

Boteng V2 EV. The brand's first new energy vehicle, positioned as a "wide‑body multi‑function logistics vehicle" in the commercial segment, officially launched at the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show in three variants, priced at 144,800–149,800 RMB. It measures 4,925×1,835×1,980 mm with a 3,080 mm wheelbase, and offers a maximum cargo volume of 6.1 m³, meeting the space needs of urban last‑mile delivery. It is equipped with an LFP battery, offering a combined range of 260 km, with energy consumption of about 16 kWh per 100 km and an average cost of less than 0.09 RMB per kilometre. Safety features include ABS+EBD electronic assistance, reversing radar, and a tyre pressure warning system.

Boteng V1. Another commercial vehicle launched at the same time, priced at approximately 50,000–70,000 RMB, primarily serving urban logistics and short‑distance distribution needs.

Boteng M3. A commercial micro‑truck series priced at approximately 40,000–80,000 RMB, focused on urban freight, individual business, and other essential use scenarios.

BAIC RUIXIANG C5 EV. First debuted at the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show. Positioned as a pure electric sedan, it features a closed front face design, integrated front headlight group, and full‑width taillight design. The exterior mirrors have been replaced with camera‑based flow‑media units. The C5 EV was originally planned as a heavyweight new energy passenger car, but as of early 2026, mass production and delivery had not been realised.

Planned Models. BAIC RUIXIANG announced around 2024 that it would launch a number of new energy models, including the RuiXiang X5 PHEV, RuiXiang C5 EV, and RuiXiang HOEN O2, covering pure electric and hybrid technology routes. These models are designed to meet environmental standards with lower energy consumption and longer range. However, as of 2026, most remain in the planning stage and have not entered mass production.

OEM Business. BAIC RUIXIANG is accelerating its new energy presence by undertaking OEM projects for brands such as Light Orange Era. The OEM relationship and investment cooperation are still in development.

Market Performance

Since the brand was relaunched in 2021, BAIC RUIXIANG's performance in the domestic passenger car market has been generally weak, falling far short of the strategic targets set in the brand's early days.

Passenger Car Market. In 2025, BAIC RUIXIANG remained largely on the margins of the domestic passenger car market, with monthly sales hovering at very low levels. According to third‑party platform data, as of September 2025, the brand's monthly sales in China stood at just 21 units, with a near‑zero share of national auto sales and a ranking of 124th among all automotive enterprises. The main models, the X3 and X5, were all at single‑digit monthly sales—or even zero. Entering 2026, passenger car sales fell further to freezing point: in February 2026, the BAIC RUIXIANG X5 sold only 15 units, with cumulative sales over the preceding 12 months totalling fewer than 300 units. During the same period, the X3 model's monthly sales were essentially zero, effectively in a state of suspension.

Commercial Vehicle Market. The Boteng V2 EV is BAIC RUIXIANG's core new energy commercial vehicle product. It gained some market attention early on, primarily targeting urban distribution and logistics company procurement. However, the overall market scale is limited, and it is unlikely to become a major revenue source in the short term. The Boteng series commercial vehicles hold a low total market share in the domestic small logistics vehicle segment, and a scaled sales effect has yet to materialise.

Financials and Dealers. BAIC RUIXIANG has not publicly disclosed complete annual financial reports for 2023–2025. Following its restructuring, the brand set a goal of repaying debts and achieving sustainable profitability within six years, but passenger car sales have remained at very low levels for consecutive years. Market performance is far below expectations, and the debt repayment process may face significant uncertainty. On the dealer front, BAIC RUIXIANG started from the Southwest region and gradually expanded its dealer network nationwide, forming a relatively concentrated channel presence in provinces such as Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou. However, the persistent contraction of passenger car terminal sales is taking a toll on dealer confidence and channel vitality.

Core Technology

BAIC RUIXIANG's technology system is built on the existing manufacturing capabilities of its predecessor BAIC Yinxiang, combined with resource introduction from BAIC Group, intelligent technology iteration, and collaboration with new partners.

Intelligent Manufacturing System. BAIC RUIXIANG has built a production base covering over 1,340 mu (approximately 89 hectares) with a total construction area of 360,000 square metres in Hechuan, Chongqing. It has established five major process production lines—stamping, welding, painting, assembly, and engine. The factory is equipped with KUKA, ABB, and Kawasaki intelligent robot workstations, forming a complete, independent, and efficient multi‑model mixed‑assembly flexible manufacturing system. The key production line process automation rate exceeds 95%, reaching an internationally leading level. Annual vehicle capacity reaches 500,000 units, covering both fuel and new energy vehicles, with full coverage across segmented markets including SUVs, MPVs, sedans, buses, trucks, special vehicles, and new energy electric vehicles.

New Energy Three‑Electric Technology. BAIC RUIXIANG has established systematic R&D and testing capabilities in the three major technology fields of battery, motor, and electronic control. The company has set up a new energy motor performance test bench and a power battery pack testing system, and has mastered key technologies in new energy vehicles, intelligent connectivity, lightweighting, power battery technology, electric drive axles, dual‑motor transmissions, and CSS, with core patents exceeding 100.

FinDreams Power Collaboration. In early 2022, BAIC RUIXIANG signed a cooperation intention agreement with FinDreams Power under BYD, adopting FinDreams Power's new energy powertrain platform technology and core component systems. The plug‑in hybrid system equipped on the BAIC RUIXIANG X5 PHEV has an engine maximum power of 110 hp and a motor maximum power of 132 kW, paired with a 17.5 kWh battery pack. This powertrain technology is closely aligned with the basic architecture of popular models such as the BYD Song Pro, and industry opinion suggests that this hybrid system is essentially the same source as BYD's DM‑i Super Hybrid Technology.

Intelligent Connectivity Technology. BAIC RUIXIANG has built the "Ruiqing Smart Mobility Connectivity Ecosystem" intelligent connectivity platform, with the first vehicle equipped being the BAIC RUIXIANG X5. The system integrates T‑Twinkle intelligent travel technology, consolidating multiple functional modules—vehicle control, entertainment, and information—into one. It is equipped with a voice interaction system and 4G intelligent connected vehicle technology, enhancing the intelligent interaction experience during driving.

R&D Strategy and Technical Platform. BAIC RUIXIANG adopts an open technical R&D strategy of "independent R&D, group introduction, and external cooperation." Leveraging BAIC Group's technical resource advantages, it has established a complete automotive vehicle design and development platform, vehicle trial production line, vehicle road performance test platform, and component comprehensive test platform. The company has built deep cooperative relationships with institutions including the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, Ricardo (a globally renowned consulting firm), CATARC, and the Beijing Aerospace Experiment Technology Research Institute, carrying out systematic collaborative R&D in fields such as new energy vehicle motor drive systems, test platforms, and automotive noise and vibration engineering.

Global Footprint

From the very beginning of the brand's establishment, BAIC RUIXIANG regarded overseas markets as a core strategic direction, adopting a policy of "valuing domestic and foreign markets equally." Through the dual‑track approach of complete vehicle exports and KD parts exports, it has gradually opened up overseas markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America.

Southeast Asia Market. Vietnam and Myanmar are BAIC RUIXIANG's two core outposts in the Southeast Asian market. The company has established KD cooperation channels in both countries, realising local assembly and sales through CKD/SKD methods. Its Southeast Asian presence includes its own overseas agents and distributor networks.

Middle East Market. BAIC RUIXIANG has established export channels in Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The Middle East market has strong demand for SUV models, which aligns well with the BAIC RUIXIANG X5 and X3 product lines, making it an important incremental market for brand exports.

South America Market. The company has simultaneously promoted overseas business in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and other South American countries, entering local markets through both KD parts exports and complete vehicle exports.

Export Scale. On March 25, 2022, BAIC RUIXIANG held an international market departure ceremony. The first batch of 48 containers loaded with BAIC RUIXIANG KD parts departed from Hechuan, Chongqing, officially sounding the horn for the brand's entry into overseas markets. As of the first quarter of 2022, BAIC RUIXIANG had received demand orders exceeding 1,500 units (sets) including KD parts and complete vehicle exports, with export orders from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America maintaining a continuous growth trend. On the overseas business team front, the BAIC RUIXIANG management team has repeatedly deployed and absorbed senior talent with overseas market experience, laying a management foundation for the brand's international market expansion.
