ARMADILLO is a Chinese high-end off-road RV brand affiliated with Zhejiang Ruiye Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd. It is headquartered in Changxing County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, with factory premises covering approximately 114.6 mu and sales showrooms exceeding 1,000 square meters. The brand was established in 2005 by founders Yu Xuebing and Gao Wei.
The brand name "Armadillo" refers to a mythical creature from South America covered in hard armor and capable of freely traversing precarious environments. ARMADILLO named itself after this creature, symbolizing that its off-road RVs are like armadillos—resilient and sturdy, fearless of obstacles, and able to penetrate and reach every corner of the world. The brand upholds the craftsmanship philosophy of "Refined through challenges, driving without boundaries." It adapts imported Mercedes-Benz and MAN off-road truck chassis for modification, endowing the RVs with exceptional off-road performance and the ability to travel through precarious and rugged road conditions.
The birth of ARMADILLO stems from an outdoor experience of the founders. In 2003, founders Yu Xuebing and Gao Wei during an off-road trip in a no-man's land, due to lack of campsites and cramped space, feeling deeply that food, equipment, and accommodation supply became the biggest problem. They conceived the idea of building an RV combining off-road performance and living functions.
Although neither came from a vehicle design major, nor had mature production lines and parts suppliers for reference, but they relied on passion and persistence, starting from heavy trucks with strong load capacity and good stability, personally selecting chassis, designing and polishing parts. After two years of repeated testing, ARMADILLO brand officially established in 2005.
At the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show, ARMADILLO exhibited the first product "Conqueror", caused a sensation upon appearance, 3 people ordered customizations on-site, the brand was formally launched as a result. After the auto show, the two founders put down their main jobs, started to fully build the first high-end off-road RV brand in China. Each ARMADILLO RV requires an average of over 10 trades, over 30 people to create together, overall requiring 40,000 to 50,000 man-hours to complete, undergoing thousands of real environment and extreme tests before leaving the factory, during the trial and error period of the first one to two years, only 1 to 2 units could be produced per year.
Since then, the brand successively launched series such as "Expeditionist", "Challenger", "Climber", "Keen Rover", and "Pioneer", gradually establishing a comprehensive product matrix. After about 20 years of development, ARMADILLO has grown into a leader in global high-end off-road RVs, customers are spread all over the world.

ARMADILLO is positioned in an extreme high-end niche market, mainly targeting the medium-to-high-end consumer group aged 40 to 65, only about 100-plus owners globally, including social elites such as famous entrepreneurs. Brand management revealed, ARMADILLO's annual sales volume in China is about 100 units, limited quantity, closely related to the product's high pricing and high-end niche positioning. Brand has been active in over 12 large-scale exhibitions and dozens of events, continuously deepening influence in the niche market.
ARMADILLO's core technologies consist of four major sections: chassis modification, box structure, power system, and off-road configuration:
High-end Off-road Chassis Modification Technology: ARMADILLO established long-term partnership with Mercedes-Benz and MAN, adopting imported original truck specialized chassis. Chassis fully modified into layout suitable for off-road RVs, including three-point torque balance mechanism flexible connection system between carriage and chassis beam, ensuring driving stability and road adaptability.
Sandwich Composite Wall Structure: ARMADILLO independently developed a thermal break insulated box structure developed for extreme environments. Walls adopt a sandwich composite structure with thickness up to 65 mm, inner and outer high-strength fiberglass sheets make the box lighter and more corrosion resistant, simultaneously providing superior sound insulation and thermal insulation effects.
Multi-level Differential Lock and All-Terrain Passability: Brand integrates multi-differential lock systems from Mercedes and MAN original factories, taking Expeditionist 6×6 as an example, equipped with 3 wheel locks, 2 axle locks, and ZF 12-speed off-road mode automatic transmission with gear lock, combined with added professional off-road suspension and ground clearance design, ensuring vehicle passability in extreme terrains such as deserts, Gobi, and snowy mountains.
On-board Energy and Livelihood Support System: ARMADILLO independently developed a whole-vehicle energy management system, can integrate solar charging system, super large capacity battery pack and fuel heating system, providing off-grid life support for several days for on-board appliances, heating, air conditioning, etc., ensuring user's long-term comfortable living needs in wild harsh environments.
ARMADILLO's early products have been exported to USA, Germany, etc., its off-road RV technology was even used by European and American peers as a "senior" for reference. 2024 was a year of accelerated promotion of the brand's internationalization strategy. August of the same year, ARMADILLO went abroad for the first time, carrying Conqueror T, Challenger F, and Expeditionist F three models to participate in Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), received warm response at the largest Middle East professional exhibition in the world. December of the same year, Brand released annual review report, clearly set expanding the global market as a key strategic direction. In addition, ARMADILLO also made adaptive adjustments such as right-hand drive models, continuously expanding overseas market coverage.
Looking forward, ARMADILLO will continue to focus on high-end customization, deep off-roading, and ultimate travel as its core directions, with an emphasis on product accumulation and technological innovation. In terms of market strategy, the brand will continue to deepen the emotional connection with medium-to-high-end consumers by providing high-quality and refined brand experiences that meet their personalized consumption needs.
In terms of new energy exploration, as global electrification and sustainable energy trends continue to deepen, ARMADILLO may explore the application potential of hybrid or fully electric drive systems on heavy off-road RVs to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while improving power supply reliability in extreme environments such as plateaus and extreme cold conditions. In its global layout, the brand will leverage the valuable experience gained from participating in Abu Dhabi in 2024, accelerate its entry into the Middle East and other emerging markets, and seek to establish deep cooperation with local major dealers and outdoor organizations. In terms of new model development, ARMADILLO has already launched new models such as the Expeditionist F, Climber S, and Keen Rover S in 2024.
