AHB System

2026-10-24 10:20:00

The AHB (Automatic High Beam) system is an active safety assist feature designed to enhance nighttime driving visibility and convenience. When driving in dark or low-light conditions, the system uses a forward-facing camera to detect traffic on the road ahead (such as oncoming headlamps, taillights of preceding vehicles, and street lighting) and automatically toggles between high beam and low beam. This prevents dazzling other road users while maximizing forward illumination at night.

Core Technical Architecture and Operating Principles

The AHB system primarily comprises a forward-facing optical camera, a Body Control Module (BCM), and a headlamp lighting control unit.

Ambient Light Capture & Target Light Source Recognition (Ambient Light Capture & Target Light Source Recognition):

Mounted at the top of the front windscreen, the optical camera captures real-time road imagery and ambient light levels at high frequency. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) processes oncoming headlamps, leading vehicle taillights, and environmental light intensity in real time via dedicated image recognition algorithms to accurately determine if high beam activation conditions are met.

Intelligent Dynamic Light Beam Switching and Control (Intelligent Dynamic Light Beam Switching):

When the system detects no other road users ahead and ambient lighting falls below a preset threshold, it automatically switches from low beam to high beam to broaden the field of vision. Once oncoming traffic is detected or the vehicle approaches a car ahead, the system instantly dips the headlamps back to low beam to prevent blinding other drivers. More advanced Matrix LED or Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) systems can even shade specific sectors of the light beam to deliver glare-free high beam illumination.

Safety Guidelines and Operating Limitations

Strictly Avoid Over-Reliance on Automatic Switching in Adverse Weather or Challenging Lighting (Prohibiting Misuse in Adverse Weather or Special Lighting):

The detection capability of the AHB system relies heavily on the optical clarity of the camera. Drivers must not overly depend on automatic high beam switching in torrential rain, dense fog, heavy snow, or on unpaved roads where visibility is severely compromised. Furthermore, there is a risk of delayed detection when encountering pedestrians stepping out from blind corners, non-motorised vehicles without taillights, or unlit tractors. Drivers must intervene manually whenever necessary.

Windscreen Camera Cleanliness and Hardware Maintenance (Windshield Camera Cleanliness & Maintenance Restrictions):

The forward-facing camera directly dictates the sensing accuracy of the AHB system. The feature must not be used if the windscreen area covering the camera is obstructed by thick dirt, ice, snow, insect splatter, or non-compliant dark solar window tint film. Following a front windscreen replacement or front-end body repairs, the system must never be operated without professional recalibration. Proper camera alignment and optical resolution must be ensured to prevent misjudgements that could leave the high beam on and dazzle oncoming motorists.
