XPENG P7 takes centre stage at 2026 Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship – Hong Kong Stage

The 2026 Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship – Hong Kong Stage wrapped up on 18 October after two days of competition at the Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space.

The FIA-sanctioned event, held on 17 and 18 October, brought together top gymkhana drivers from across Asia, with Hong Kong's representatives putting on a strong showing on home ground.

Gymkhana is a motorsport discipline in which drivers navigate a course marked out with cones and other obstacles. Competitors must follow a set route through a series of turns and manoeuvres, with the fastest time determining the result. Knocking over a cone or straying from the course can incur time penalties.

Unlike racing formats that focus primarily on outright speed, gymkhana tests precision, route planning, timing and quick decision-making. The courses are usually tight, requiring drivers to string together a series of manoeuvres in a confined space while maintaining control of the car.

Competitors had just 15 minutes to walk the course before driving it, making route memorisation and the ability to react under pressure crucial.

The XPENG P7 served as the event's official competition car. Its strong acceleration and stable handling helped drivers put their skills to the test.

Jerry Tam, General Manager and Head of APAC Distributor Market at XPENG Motors, said the company was bringing its AI-powered electric vehicle technology to Hong Kong as part of its continued presence in the Greater Bay Area.

He added that gymkhana provides an opportunity to demonstrate how an electric car's instant torque and dynamic stability control perform under demanding driving conditions. XPENG also hopes the event will help encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in local motorsport.
