XPeng Iron walks off the world's first automated assembly line for advanced humanoid robots

XPeng has put the world's first automated production line for advanced general-purpose humanoid robots into operation, with the first robot completing automated final assembly and walking off the line under its own power on 8 September.

XPeng chairman He Xiaopeng described the occasion as a significant moment in the development of humanoid robots, as the company's new production line begins what it calls "robots building robots".

He said XPeng's ambition goes beyond making a smarter tool or another commercial product. The company wants its robots to be genuinely general-purpose, capable of working across a wide range of real-world environments.

The first jobs could include dangerous or highly repetitive tasks, taking some of the burden away from people and improving everyday life. In the longer term, He said, robots could become more than machines — potentially becoming human partners, friends or even part of the family.
