Toyota updates Crown lineup with fifth-generation hybrid tech and new Sport PHEV

On 3 September, Toyota officially revealed the facelifted Crown Crossover, Crown Sport, and Crown Sedan.

The Crown Crossover went on sale on the same day, with prices starting from 5,179,900 yen (~HK$260,000). The Sport and Sedan variants are scheduled to hit the market on 21 September, priced at 5,327,300 yen (~HK$268,000) and 6,499,900 yen (~HK$327,000) respectively.

Details regarding the facelifted Crown Estate remain under wraps, with its official debut reportedly delayed until late 2026.

The highlight of this mid-life update is the introduction of Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system to both the Crown Crossover and Crown Sport.

For grades including the CROSSOVER Z, CROSSOVER G, SPORT Z (HEV), and SPORT G, the combined system output has been uprated from 234 ps to 239 ps.

Fuel economy has also seen notable gains: the WLTC fuel consumption for the CROSSOVER G improves from 22.4 km/L to 23.1 km/L, while the SPORT G goes from 21.3 km/L to 22.4 km/L.

The Crown Crossover also benefits from subtle cosmetic revisions, featuring a reprofiled rear section to deliver a wider, more muscular stance.

The dual-tone paint scheme has been refreshed, with the bonnet and the upper greenhouse above the beltline completely unified in black.

Meanwhile, the wheel arch mouldings, lower bumper trims, and side skirt garnishes have all been upgraded to piano black finish, alongside the addition of a new Neutral Black exterior paint option.

The Crown Sport line-up welcomes a new flagship PHEV variant, the SPORT Z, powered by a 2.5L plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a combined output of 306 ps, complemented by 18-inch front and rear brake discs.

Cabin and equipment have also been enhanced.

Range-topping grades of the Crossover and Sport now feature the Toyota Premium Sound system (10 speakers with an 8-channel amplifier) as standard. Steering wheel paddle shifters are now standard across both models.

Furthermore, their RS grades receive a dimpled-leather gear selector knob and leather-wrapped steering wheel, with the Crossover RS additionally sporting red brake callipers front and rear.

As for the Crown Sedan, the revision introduces a driver-centric G trim to the line-up. The flagship Z grade now comes standard with a blacked-out exterior styling pack and gains an optional factory-fitted 13.2-inch OLED rear-seat entertainment display (this option cannot be selected in conjunction with the panoramic sunroof).
