Toyota Alphard 250 now HK$649,790 with 60th anniversary offer

For business users travelling around the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as families who need a seven-seater, a spacious MPV is often a necessity rather than a luxury. There are plenty of options on the market, but for many Hong Kong buyers, the Toyota Alphard remains one of the most familiar choices.

Toyota Hong Kong's sole authorised distributor, Crown Motors, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a special offer on the Alphard 250, which is now available at a promotional price of HK$649,790.

The Toyota Alphard 250 shares the same imposing exterior as the higher-spec versions. Its large, upright grille has been one of the Alphard's most recognisable design features since the previous generation, and has since been adopted by a number of rival MPVs.

The front end is complemented by sharp LED Bi-Beam headlights, while the rear gets combination tail-lights that give the Alphard a distinctive look. The body is fairly upright and square, with clean lines that suit both its business and family-oriented roles.

Inside, the Alphard uses a wraparound dashboard that gives the driver and passengers a more enclosed feel. Equipment is another important consideration for a premium MPV, and the entry-level Alphard 250 is still well equipped from the factory.

It comes with a 14-inch factory touchscreen audio system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, a JBL premium sound system with 15 speakers and HDMI, a 360-degree parking camera, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 active safety technology.

The second row has two separate panoramic sunroofs with powered shades, while the second and third rows also get powered sunshades. Rear passengers have a factory-fitted 14-inch roof-mounted entertainment screen with a remote control and HDMI input.

The second-row seats come with heating and ventilation, as well as powered individual Ottoman seats with leg rests. The sliding doors are also fitted with additional sound insulation.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre Dual VVT-i naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 169 PS at 5,400rpm and 232 Nm at 4,100rpm, paired with a CVT. Fuel consumption is rated at 10.8km/l.

The numbers may not be particularly impressive, but the proven powertrain is well established and does not come with the need to plan around charging stops, making it a straightforward choice for longer trips around the Greater Bay Area.

The latest-generation Alphard is based on Toyota's GA-K platform, with a reinforced body structure. More sound insulation has also been added underneath, while the suspension has been revised to improve damping and ride comfort.

At HK$649,790, the Alphard 250 also compares favourably with parallel-imported models, which are often based on the Japanese-market Z variant.

As an officially distributed model, it comes with a number of advantages. The vehicles are 100% factory-built and imported, and come with a dedicated A-plate registration book. After-sales service is handled by Toyota-certified technicians, while buyers also get five years or 100,000 km of factory maintenance.

These are areas where parallel-imported models generally cannot offer the same level of support.

According to Crown Motors, the Alphard 250's limited-time offer will run until the end of this year.
