XPENG has unveiled the new G9L flagship SUV in China, with pre-orders now open. The SUV is offered with both pure-electric and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains across six variants, with prices starting at RMB 259,800.
The G9L is more than just a longer G9 as XPENG also makes upgrades to the exterior and interior, cabin space, intelligent features and powertrain.

The G9L retains XPENG's full-width front light bar, with refinements to the internal lighting elements. The lower light units have also been redesigned and repositioned lower down, flowing into the full-width lower grille for a cleaner front-end treatment.
The new model also features AI digital projection headlights. Two new exterior colours — Provence Purple and Tuscany Green — give the G9L a more youthful look.

From the side, the overall shape remains familiar, although the A-pillar has been redesigned with sharper lines and a more sculpted look. New alloy wheel designs complete the look.
The G9L measures 5,120 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,782 mm tall, with a 3,100 mm wheelbase. The larger dimensions translate into a more spacious cabin than the G9.

The rear end also receives substantial updates. While retaining the full-width taillight bar, the light cluster area has been enlarged and treated with a smoked finish for a sportier look.
The rear bumper has also been redesigned with cleaner, sharper lines, blending premium texture with dynamic styling.

Inside, the G9L adopts XPENG's "Galaxy Starlight First Class" concept, with a new Sahara Orange interior adding a warmer, more upscale feel. The dashboard features a large floating central touchscreen and an 88-inch AR-HUD.

The G9L gets a dual floating centre-console layout, with dual 50W motorised wireless charging pads and linked cupholders. It also comes with a 9-inch digital rear-view mirror and a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen.
Other features include a dual-zone in-car refrigerator, four-motor executive centre console and a 33-speaker sound system.

Space is one of the G9L's key strengths.
XPENG says it offers more than 1 sq m of usable cabin space per occupant, with 252 mm of rear legroom, 1,101 mm of headroom and 1,505 mm of shoulder room. The boot offers up to 1,152 litres of space.

For the seats, the G9L introduces AI active-fit technology, designed to adapt to different body shapes. Both front and rear seats support zero-gravity positioning, with one-touch controls to recline them together.
An industry-first five-seat bed mode also lets the seats fold flat without removing the headrests. The resulting sleeping area is more than 1.8 metres long.

The G9L is built on XPENG's GX platform, and was developed to meet the five-star safety standards of four major global assessment bodies. It also features what XPENG describes as aviation-grade safety redundancy, covering both active and passive safety.
For driver assistance, the G9L gets an upgraded version of XPENG's second-generation VLA system, with improvements to both capability and stability.
Powertrain choices include EV and EREV versions.
The EV model offers up to 755 km of CLTC range. The EREV version uses a new-generation four-wheel-drive range-extender system with a 63.3 kWh battery and 60-litre fuel tank. Its CLTC electric range is rated at 435 km, with a combined range of up to 1,602 km.
The G9L also uses an 800V high-voltage charging system, adding up to 450 km of range in nine minutes.
