smart #2 regulatory images revealed ahead of October Paris Motor Show debut

Official regulatory images of the smart #2 have surfaced in China, giving us our first proper look at the brand's new ultra-compact EV.

The two-door model has been designed by Mercedes-Benz's design team and rides on smart's latest platform, developed specifically for small electric cars.

Design-wise, the smart #2 takes inspiration from the iconic fortwo, while getting a few tweaks to suit its all-electric powertrain.

It measures 2,751 mm (2,764 mm) long, 1,669 mm wide and 1,555 mm tall, with a 1,875 mm wheelbase.

Up front, the smart #2 gets a closed-off front end, along with the split-headlight layout seen on the latest smart models. The headlights and daytime running lights give it a clean, high-tech look when lit up.

Despite measuring just 2.79 metres long, the #2 keeps smart's familiar "four wheels at the corners" stance, with a floating roof that gives the car a neat, compact profile. At the rear, round tail lights echo the design up front, tying the look together.

The smart #2 will initially be offered as a two-door hardtop, with a convertible version also reportedly in the works for a later date.

According to earlier reports, the smart #2 will be a fully electric model with a CLTC range of up to 400 km. It will support DC fast charging, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in around 20 minutes, while V2L will also be available for powering external devices.

The smart #2 is set to make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
