2026 MG07 Official Images Unveiled – Dual Powertrains + Momenta R7 Autonomous Driving Set to Redefine Entry-Level Electric Coupe

Shanghai, May 8 – SAIC MG officially released the first batch of official images for the all-new MG07, a pure electric fastback sedan built on SAIC’s next-generation new energy vehicle platform. As MG’s debut electric coupe under its “Coupe Specialist” heritage, the MG07 is positioned in the 150,000–200,000 RMB price segment and is scheduled for market launch within 2026. MG simultaneously unveiled a premium metallic paint option named “Monte Carlo Purple,” emphasizing the model’s aggressive, individualistic styling aimed squarely at younger buyers.

Exterior Design – Heritage British Sportscar DNA Electrified

The MG07 adopts a signature electric coupe silhouette with a long, sweeping fastback roofline. A short front overhang combined with a long wheelbase delivers a wide, low-slung stance, with the roof contour flowing seamlessly from the A-pillar to the rear spoiler. The front fascia features an integrated clamshell hood flanked by sharp C-shaped LED headlights, while an active air intake grille preserves high-performance gasoline-era visual cues while improving aerodynamic efficiency.

On the side, sculpted surfacing defines the fender, waist and haunch lines. The MG07 gains frameless doors, fender air vents, sport side skirts, two-tone black-and-white wheels, and painted brake calipers. At the rear, a full-width light bar flows flush with the tailgate lip, reinforced by a hatchback profile that creates a clean, compact, athletic appearance. The newly unveiled “Monte Carlo Purple” metallic paint shifts hues under varying light, adding further visual appeal for customers prioritizing exterior design.

Autonomous Driving – Momenta R7 End-to-End Neural Network: 300,000 RMB-Scale ADAS Technology at 150,000 RMB

The MG07’s standout feature is its first-in-class adoption of Momenta’s fully integrated R7 reinforcement learning world model ADAS system. The solution combines Momenta’s R7 end-to-end foundation model with the company’s self-developed XHEART X7 dedicated AI acceleration chip, forming a deeply coupled hardware-software computing platform. According to MG, all other models scheduled to debut with this exact system are priced at or above the 300,000 RMB threshold. This effectively means consumers entering at the 150,000–200,000 RMB level gain access to advanced driver-assistance capabilities previously confined to vehicles costing twice as much.

Capabilities include urban NOA and a so-called “seamless park-to-park” navigation feature – the vehicle can autonomously exit a parking spot, navigate surface streets and highways, and self-park at the destination without driver intervention. A roof-mounted high-position LiDAR sensor – the first ever fitted to an MG sedan – provides high-resolution perception redundancy. Momenta has collected over 10 billion kilometers of real-world driving data, extracting more than 100 million long-tail scenarios. By the end of 2026, Momenta expects 2 million vehicles carrying its ADAS technology on the road, providing a continually improving training corpus.

The automaker draws a direct competitive line: the MG07’s autonomous driving capability is pitched not against the XPeng MONA M03, but against Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving system. Momenta has openly described the MG07 as “China’s Tesla for young people.” MG brand general manager Chen Cui also confirmed that the MG07 still holds unreleased secrets regarding its styling and a forthcoming smart cockpit solution, likely co-developed with OPPO and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship chips.

Powertrain – Dual Electric + Plug-In Hybrid Layout, Probable 800V Architecture

The MG07 will be available in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations. The pure-electric version is expected to offer single-motor rear-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive layouts. Output for the rear-drive variant is estimated at 200–250 kW, while the dual-motor AWD version could exceed 300 kW combined, potentially delivering sub-four-second 0–100 km/h acceleration. The plug-in hybrid variant pairs a 1.5L turbocharged dedicated hybrid engine with an electric range of 150–200 km and total combined range exceeding 1,000 km. The vehicle is built atop SAIC’s next-generation new energy platform, which upgrades structural rigidity, suspension architecture, and the electrical/electronic framework. While official charging specifications are pending, SAIC’s Nebula platform supports 800V fast-charging technology, meaning the MG07 could offer rapid replenishment times.

Red Ocean Challenge – Can It Replicate the MG4 Phenomenon?

The MG07 enters China’s most fiercely contested price segment, where established models including BYD Seal, XPeng P7i, Leapmotor C01, Deepal SL03, Geely Galaxy E8, and GAC Aion Hyper GT already compete. Consumer skepticism regarding “sporty coupe” practicality – rear seat headroom, trunk volume – remains a persistent hurdle.

However, the MG07 differentiates itself via three clear advantages. First, Momenta R7’s high-level ADAS capabilities delivered at mainstream pricing constitutes a genuine technology democratization play. Second, dual electric/plug-in hybrid powertrains cover a wider range of consumer needs and charging infrastructure realities. Third, MG’s accelerating global credibility – 2025 European sales exceeded 300,000 units, up 30% year-on-year, marking 11 consecutive years as the top Chinese brand in Europe – provides brand tailwinds. SAIC Motor vice president and SAIC Passenger Vehicle Company general manager Wang Xiaoqiu previously stated that MG aims to become “the most successful automotive brand in new energy transition by the end of 2026,” a target for which the MG07 is a cornerstone product.

Hong Kong Outlook

For Hong Kong buyers, the MG07’s combination of styling, intelligent driving capabilities, and projected pricing (150,000–200,000 RMB or approximately HK$160,000–220,000 under the “One-for-One Replacement” EV First Registration Tax scheme) would directly challenge the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal and XPeng P7. However, MG Hong Kong has not yet announced any import timeline, homologation progress, or distributor plans. First mainland China deliveries are expected in Q3–Q4 2026.

Conclusion

The MG07 leverages heritage-driven design, Momenta’s advanced ADAS technology previously reserved for premium segments, and flexible dual-powertrain availability. Real-world ride and handling, the final performance of urban NOA features at launch, and manufacturing consistency will ultimately determine whether the MG07 breaks out of the crowded 150,000–200,000 RMB electric coupe segment or remains a footnote.
