GAC Trumpchi E8 PHEV: 17.3-inch Screen & LiDAR Option

GAC Trumpchi has released official images of the all-new Trumpchi E8 PHEV. The new model features a fresh exterior design language, a seven-seat layout, a 1.5T plug-in hybrid powertrain, and an optional roof-mounted LiDAR. A 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen is also standard.

Exterior: Bold new design language

The front features a large parametric grille with matrix LED headlights and three vertical daytime running lights. Dual power sliding doors and hidden door handles are standard. Dimensions: length 5,020 mm, width 1,920 mm, height 1,750 mm, wheelbase 3,000 mm.

Interior: 17.3-inch rear screen with seven seats

The 2+2+3 layout includes second-row independent aviation seats with heating, ventilation, and massage. The highlight is a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted rear entertainment screen for movies and gaming. The front cabin features a digital cluster and a large floating touchscreen (expected 15.6 inches).

Powertrain: 1.5T PHEV with strong range

The 1.5T turbo engine (130 kW, 260 Nm) pairs with a 150 kW electric motor. Combined output exceeds 200 kW and 400 Nm. A 25 kWh battery delivers an estimated 120 km CLTC pure electric range and over 1,000 km total range. DC fast charging (30-80% in 30 minutes) and 3.3 kW V2L are supported.

ADAS: Optional LiDAR for L2+ autonomy

Standard L2 ADAS includes adaptive cruise, lane centring, and AEB. The optional roof-mounted LiDAR upgrades the system to L2+ with highway navigation assist, auto lane change, and auto ramp entry/exit.

Comfort features

Dual power sliding doors, power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, and tri-zone climate control are included. A 12-speaker premium audio system is available.

Market positioning

The E8 PHEV competes with the Denza D9 DM-i, Buick Century PHEV, and Honda Odyssey Hybrid. Its advantages include the new design, optional LiDAR, large rear screen, and Trumpchi‘s MPV heritage. Pricing is expected between RMB 250,000 and 350,000. For Hong Kong families frequently travelling to the mainland, this model is worth watching. More details will follow at the Beijing Auto Show.
